Uveal effusion syndrome complicated by anterior ischemic optic neuropathy

We report on a case of idiopathic uveal effusion syndrome complicated by AION. To our knowledge such an association hasn't been previously described. We suggest that scleral thickening caused obstruction of vortex veins followed by uveal effusion and compression of posterior ciliary arteries within their intrascleral tract, leading to AION. Nevertheless it can't be excluded that AION was the result of mechanical compression on ciliary vessels of optic disc by choroidal detachment. © 1996, Kluwer Academic Publishers. Validating retinal fundus image analysis algorithms: issues and a proposal.

This paper concerns the validation of automatic retinal image analysis (ARIA) algorithms. For reasons of space and consistency, we concentrate on the validation of algorithms processing color fundus camera images, currently the largest section of the ARIA literature. We sketch the context (imaging instruments and target tasks) of ARIA validation, summarizing the main image analysis and validation techniques. Textureless macula swelling detection with multiple retinal fundus images

Retinal fundus images acquired with nonmydriatic digital fundus cameras are versatile tools for the diagnosis of various retinal diseases. Because of the ease of use of newer camera models and their relatively low cost, these cameras can be employed by operators with limited training for telemedicine or point-of-care (PoC) applications. We propose a novel technique that uses uncalibrated multiple-view fundus images to analyze the swelling of the macula. Retinal and choroidal microvascular changes can be related to renal impairment in hypertension and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The study examines the association between retinochoroidal parameters and renal impairment in hypertensive, non-diabetic patients. This is a cross-sectional study on Caucasian patients with systemic arterial hypertension with different levels of renal function. Intravitreal aflibercept for the treatment of radiation-induced macular edema after ruthenium 106 plaque radiotherapy for choroidal melanoma.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy of intravitreal aflibercept in patients suffering from post-radiation macular edema following plaque radiotherapy for choroidal melanoma. Retrobulbar anesthesia complicated by combined central retinal vein and artery occlusion and massive vitreoretinal fibrosis.

Retrobulbar anaesthesia is routine procedure in ocular surgery. Complication are infrequent but often severe, involving both retina and the optic nerve. we report a case of combined central retinal vein and artery occlusion, secondary to retrobulbar anaesthesia, which evolved into retinal ischemia and Vitreoretinal fibrosis. This is the first time to our knowledge that such a dramatic evolution of post traumatic retinal occlusion has been reported.

Dexamethasone for unresponsive diabetic macular oedema: optical coherence tomography biomarkers

Purpose: To analyse the effects of intravitreal dexamethasone implant (DEX) in patients with diabetic macular oedema (DME) unresponsive to ranibizumab treatment, in relation to the inflammatory optical coherence tomography (OCT) retinal features, subfoveal neuroretinal detachment (SND) and hyperreflective retinal spots (HRS). Methods: Patients with DME poorly responsive to three injections of ranibizumab were treated with DEX. Subretinal neovascularization in anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.

A 66-year-old man with typical anterior ischemic optic neuropathy in one eye suffered from edema of the optic disc without functional changes in the fellow eye. However, 7 months later, a reduction in visual acuity, a change in the visual field and a worsening of the contrast-sensitivity curve demonstrated the development of typical anterior ischemic optic neuropathy in this eye as well.
