The electromigration and diffusion of hydrogen in molybdenum

1990

Abstract The electromigration and diffusion of hydrogen atoms in molybdenum were investigated using the resistance method in the temperature range 293–773 K. The following dependence of the diffusion coefficient D and electrical mobility vE on temperature were obtained: D = (5.3 ± 1.53) × 10 −10 exp {− (0.8 ± 0.01) eV kT } { m 2 s −1 } v E = (1.24 ± 0.19) × 10 −8 exp {− (0.9 ± 0.01) eV kT }{ m 2 ( V s ) −1 } . The hydrogen migrates towards the cathode and the effective valency grows with temperature, fulfilling the relation Z eff = (1.42 ± 0.03) − (5.0 ± 0.2) × 10 −8 (Ω m ) ρ ; where ρ is the specific electric resistance.

Electrochemical treatment of paper mill wastewater by electro-Fenton process

2019

Abstract The electrochemical oxidation of organics in paper mill wastewater belonging to Halfa industries (Tunisia) was performed by galvanostatic electrolyses using electro-Fenton (EF) process. The effect of several operating parameters, such as applied current density, electrodes material, air pressure and the presence of sodium chloride (NaCl) was evaluated. In particular, carbon felt (CF), modified carbon felt (MCF) and gas diffusion electrode (GDE) were used as cathode while Ti/IrO2-Ta2O5 and Boron Doped Diamond (BDD) as anode. Total Organic Carbon (TOC) measure was chosen as reference parameter to assess the extent of the treatment. The experimental results show that, by adopting the …

Acoustic manipulation of electron-hole pairs in GaAs at room temperature

2004

We demonstrate the optically detected long-range (>100 μm) ambipolar transport of photogenerated electrons and holes at room temperature by surface acoustic waves (SAWs) in (In,Ga)As-based quantum well structures coupled to an optical microcavity. We also show the control of the propagation direction of the carriers by a switch composed of orthogonal SAW beams, which can be used as a basic control gate for information processing based on ambipolar transport.

Two-Step Solution-Processed Two-Component Bilayer Phthalocyaninato Copper-Based Heterojunctions with Interesting Ambipolar Organic Transiting and Eth…

2016

International audience; The two-component phthalocyaninato copper-based heterojunctions fabricated from n-type CuPc(COOC8H17)(8) and p-type CuPc(OC8H17)(8) by a facile two-step solution-processing quasi-Langmuir-Shafer method with both n/p- and p/n-bilayer structures are revealed to exhibit typical ambipolar air-stable organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) performance. The p/n-bilayer devices constructed by depositing CuPc(COOC8H17)(8) film on CuPc(OC8H17)(8) sub-layer show superior OTFT performance with hole and electron mobility of 0.11 and 0.02 cm(2) V-1 s(-1), respectively, over the ones with n/p-bilayer heterojunction structure with the hole and electron mobility of 0.03 and 0.016 cm(2) …

Ab Initio Calculations of the Transfer and Aggregation of F Centers in CaF2

2012

The F center and R center in CaF2 crystals have been studied by using density functional theory (DFT) with a hybrid B3PW description of exchange and correlation. Our calculations show that the F-center diffusion barrier is equal to 1.67 eV. During the F-center transfer, the trapped electron is more delocalized than that in the regular F-center case, and the gap between defect level and CB in the α-spin state decreases. The surface F-center investigation shows the trend of F centers to locate near the surface. The association energy calculations of R centers indicate stable aggregations of isolated F centers. During the F-center aggregation, a considerable covalency forms between two neighbo…

Towards saturation of the electron-capture delayed fission probability: The new isotopes $^{240}Es$ and $^{236}Bk$

2016

Abstract The new neutron-deficient nuclei 240 Es and 236 Bk were synthesised at the gas-filled recoil separator RITU. They were identified by their radioactive decay chains starting from 240 Es produced in the fusion–evaporation reaction 209 Bi( 34 S,3n) 240 Es. Half-lives of 6 ( 2 ) s and 22 − 6 + 13 s were obtained for 240 Es and 236 Bk, respectively. Two groups of α particles with energies E α = 8.19 ( 3 ) MeV and 8.09 ( 3 ) MeV were unambiguously assigned to 240 Es. Electron-capture delayed fission branches with probabilities of 0.16 ( 6 ) and 0.04 ( 2 ) were measured for 240 Es and 236 Bk, respectively. These new data show a continuation of the exponential increase of ECDF probabilitie…

Approximation of Pore Space with Ellipsoids: A Comparison of a Geometrical Method with a Statistical one

2018

We work with tomographic images of pore space in soil. The images have large dimensions and so in order to speed-up biological simulations (as drainage or diffusion process in soil), we want to describe the pore space with a number of geometrical primitives significantly smaller than the number of voxels in pore space. In this paper, we use the curve skeleton of a volume to segment it into some regions. We describe the method to compute the curve skeleton and to segment it with a simple segment approximation. We approximate each obtained region with an ellipsoid. The set of final ellipsoids represents the geometry of pore space and will be used in future simulations. We compare this method …

Sea urchin HSF activity in vitro and in transgenic embryos.

1997

Evidence is provided for the presence at the physiological temperature of 20 degrees C of a heat shock transcriptor factor, HSF, in the nuclei of P.lividus embryos. This HSF is able to specifically bind in vitro the heat shock element, HSE, of the promoter of the hsp70 gene i.v., as suggested by DNA-protein binding reactions and DNAse I protection assays. Upon heat-shock, at the temperature of 31 degrees C, its ability to bind the HSE units becomes much higher. The HSF activated by heat-shock drives in vivo the transcription of the beta-galactosidase reporter gene in transgenic sea urchin gastrulae. An ATF-like transcription factor, widely described in other organisms but not at all in sea …

Fetal Urogenital Sinus with Consecutive Hydrometrocolpos because of Labial Fusion: Prenatal Diagnostic Difficulties and Postpartal Therapeutic Manage…

2006

Objective: To elucidate the differential diagnoses of tumorous dilations in the fetal pelvic region detected by prenatal ultrasound and the postnatal management demonstrated on a fetus with 29 weeks of gestation with a retrovesical located bottle-like cystic structure measuring 54 × 31 × 27 mm within the pelvis. Postnatal findings were a labial fusion and a consecutive hydrometrocolpos due to a urethrovaginal fistula. Method: Case report of a fetus affected by an intricate cloacal anomaly. Results: The long-term prognosis for this nonsyndromic form of hydrometrocolpos without any other structural defects or organic failures after oper…
