Posterior epidural intervertebral disc migration and sequestration (PEIMS) is a rare and debilitating complication of degenerative disc disease. Radiological differential diagnosis is often challenging, complicating the accurate planning of appropriate treatment strategies. We systematically reviewed the literature on PEIMS, focusing on clinical-radiological features and available treatments. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane were searched to include studies reporting clinical data of patients with PEIMS. Human blood plasma, serum, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and erythrocytes contain significant amounts of inorganic polyphosphates (ranging from 53 to 116 microM, in terms of phosphate residues). Here we demonstrate that at higher concentrations linear polyphosphates display cytoprotective and antiviral activity. Streptolysin 0 (SLO) is the prototype of a family of cytolysins that consists of proteins which bind to cholesterol and form very large transmembrane pores. Structure/function studies on the pore-forming cytolysin SLO have been complicated by the proteolytic inactivation of a substantial portion of recombinant SLO (rSLO) expressed in Escherichia coli. H-IL-6 is a hybrid protein constructed to contain IL-6 and its soluble receptor linked by a flexible peptide chain. Here we show that H-IL-6 strongly enhances proliferation of human CD34(+)cells in serum-free liquid culture, and that the majority of the cells generated belong to the erythroid lineage, being positive for the marker Glycophorin A. Conversely, H-IL-6 does not increase the number of myeloid, CD13-positive cells. Comparable effects are observed on progenitors from cord blood and adult peripheral blood. Therefore, H-IL-6 triggers an erythroid-inducing signal in haematopoietic progenitor cells, independently from erythropoietin (EPO).

Abstract A sensor for the colorimetric estimation of the alcoholic content has been developed based on the entrapment of the reagent (4-N,N-dioctylamino)-4‘-trifluoroacetylazobenzene (ETHT 4001) into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) modified with tretraethylorthosilicate (TEOS). When exposed to an alcoholic media, the sensor delivers ETHT 4001 so that it reacts with alcohols, resulting in a change in the solution color. International audience; Some β-1,3-glucans and particularly sulfated laminarin (PS3) are known as resistance inducers (RIs) in grapevine against the downy mildew. However, their efficacy in vineyard is still often too low, which might be caused by a limited penetration through the leaf cuticle following spray application. Polymeric microcontainers improve oral bioavailability of furosemide.

Microcontainers with an inner diameter of 223 μm are fabricated using the polymer SU-8, and evaluated in vitro, in situ and in vivo for their application as an advanced oral drug delivery system for the poorly water soluble drug furosemide. An amorphous sodium salt of furosemide (ASSF) is filled into the microcontainers followed by applying a lid using Eudragit L100. It is possible to control the drug release in vitro, and in vitro absorption studies show that the microcontainers are not a hindrance for absorption of ASSF.
