Solid state reactions are slow because the diffusion of atoms or ions through the reactant, intermediate and crystalline product phases is the rate-limiting step. This requires days or even weeks of high temperature treatment, and consumption of large amounts of energy. We employed spark-plasma sintering, an engineering technique that is used for high-speed consolidation of powders with a pulsed electric current passing through the sample to carry out the fluorination of niobium oxide in minute intervals. Electrochemical and Electronic Structure Investigations of the [S3N3]• Radical and Kinetic Modeling of the [S4N4]n/[S3N3]n (n = 0, −1) Interconversion

Voltammetric studies of S4N4 employing both cyclic (CV) and rotating disk (RDE) methods in CH2Cl2 at a glassy carbon electrode reveal a one-electron reduction at −1.00 V (versus ferrocene/ferrocenium), which produces a second redox couple at −0.33 V, confirmed to be the electrochemically generated [S3N3]− by CV studies on its salts. Diffusion coefficients (CH2Cl2/0.4 M [nBu4N][PF6]) estimated by RDE methods: S4N4, 1.17 × 10−5 cm2 s−1; [S3N3]−, 4.00 × 10−6 cm2 s−1. International audience; Based on the electrochemical properties of a series of metallophthalocyanines this article shows that the phthalocyanine bearing four alkoxy groups and twelve fluorine atoms behaves approximately as those with eight fluorine atoms. This indicates that the electron-donating effect of one alkoxy group balances the electro-withdrawing effect of one fluorine atom. Dissociation of theophylline uptake and inotropic effect in myocardial tissue: influence of temperature, pH and calcium.

The myocardial uptake and the positive inotropic effect of theophylline (100 mug/ml; 0.56 mM) were studied in isolated electrically driven guinea-pig hearts perfused by the Langendorff technique under various extracellular conditions. [3H]-theophylline was used. 2. Variations in temperature, hydrogen ion and calcium ion concentrations of the perfusion media changed the time course and magnitude of the effect of theophylline on myocardial twitch tension but did not affect the time course and amount of theophylline uptake. 3. Domain shuffling between Vip3Aa and Vip3Ca: chimera stability and insecticidal activity against European, American, African, and Asian pests

The bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis produces insecticidal Vip3 proteins during the vegetative growth phase with activity against several lepidopteran pests. To date, three different Vip3 protein families have been identified based on sequence identity: Vip3A, Vip3B, and Vip3C. In this study, we report the construction of chimeras by exchanging domains between Vip3Aa and Vip3Ca, two proteins with marked specificity differences against lepidopteran pests. Diffusion and outgassing of O2 in amorphous SiO2 silica nanoparticles with specific surface properties

Silica nanoparticles with hydrophilic and hydrophobic surface and average diameter of 12 and 40 nm are investigated to study the surface group influence on the diffusion process of molecular oxygen. The O2 diffusion kinetics and molecular solubility are determined by Raman/Photoluminescence measurements. Thermal treatments up to 127°C in controlled atmosphere show that the surface chemistry of nanoparticles is not changed, the equilibrium emission of O2 depends on nanoparticles surface properties, whereas the dynamics of diffusion is surface independent suggesting that surface groups could only affect overall content or detectability of interstitial molecules.
