Tumor oxygenation has been measured polarographically in s.c. implanted DS-sarcomas on the dorsum of the hind foot of male Sprague-Dawley rats. pO2 was determined in all 3 spatial dimensions and 3-dimensional pO2 distributions as well as the mean extent of confluent areas with pO25 mmHg were calculated. Finally, the effect of elevating arterial pO2 (by carbogen breathing) as well as of increasing tumor blood flow (by angiotensin infusion) on the spatial pO2 distribution was analyzed. Foreign protein sequences presented on hamster polyomavirus (HaPyV) major capsid protein VP1-derived virus-like particles (VLPs) have been demonstrated to be highly immunogenic. The current study was aimed to evaluate VP1-derived chimeric VLPs as tools for hybridoma technology to generate monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) of desired specificity. Chimeric VLPs containing inserts of different size and origin were used as immunogens. Day- and night-time contents of monoamines and their metabolites in the medial preoptic area of the rat hypothalamus.

The present study was conducted to investigate whether monoamines and their metabolites in the medial preoptic area (mPOA) of the rat hypothalamus exhibit differences in their contents between day and night. We therefore sampled the mPOA from adult animals of either sex at the middle of the light or dark period, respectively, and analyzed the tissue by means of high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection. We found that, in female animals at mid-night, dopamine and 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid (DOPAC) was reduced to 43 and 30%, respectively, of daytime levels, while the norepinephrine content was doubled. The specificity of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in reducing coronary vascular resistance: A comparison with adenosine.

Experiments were performed on the isolated, electrically driven guinea-pig heart, perfused at constant rate. All animals were pretreated with reserpine. Myocardial contractile force (MCF), coronary perfusion pressure (CPP) and myocardial oxygen consumption (QO2) were monitored continuously. Both adenosine (ADO) and PGE2 produced a concentration-dependent decrease in the CPP. The ED50 (50% of maximum response) was 2.1 +/- 0.6 X 10(-9)M for PGE2 but 40 +/- 7 X 10(-9)M for ADO (P less than 0.01) at 1.8 mM Ca(e). Abstract Background. ATP and glycogen depletion often have been demonstrated during cold storage of the liver prior to transplantation. Suppression of events that lead to metabolic depression and to lipid peroxidation could contribute to improvement of liver preservation. Recurrent chromosomal abnormalities present in the malignant cells of children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) often correlate closely with specific clinical and biologic characteristics of the disease. Certain unique cytogenetic rearrangements are associated with distinct morphologic leukemic subtypes. Background and aim: Data regarding the incidence and risk factors for postoperative delirium (PD) after gastrointestinal surgery are heterogeneous because they include both benign and malignant disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and risk factors for PD in 100 consecutive patients over 65 years who underwent colorectal surgery for carcinoma. Methods: Pre-operative cognitive function was assessed using the Mini Mental State Examination. Anemia was induced in rats by the development of a hemorrhagic ascites. These animals also bore solid tumors (DS-sarcomas) on the hind foot dorsum. The effects of two methods for anemia correction on oxygenation in the solid tumors were compared in this study. Anemia was corrected either chronically by erythropoietin administration (1000 IU/kg) over 14 days (EPO) or acutely by transfusion with red blood cells (TR). Non-anemic and untreated anemic animals served as controls. Tumor oxygenation was determined in anesthetized animals using polarographic needle electrodes and pO2 histography.
