Low-level gamma-ray spectrometry for analysing fusion plasma conditions
2008
Abstract A new method, combining activation by neutrons and charged particles with ultra low-level gamma-ray spectrometry, aimed at obtaining a better understanding and more adequate measurements of MeV particle leaks in magnetic fusion devices was studied here. A total of 36 samples containing Ti, LiF, B 4 C and W were placed in a boron-nitride holder mounted on the ceiling of the JET Tokamak. The samples were activated by 63 pulses from a D– 3 He plasma and were later measured using underground gamma-ray spectrometry. The radionuclides 7 Be, 46 Sc, 54 Mn, 56 Co, 57 Co, 58 Co, 124 Sb, 181 Hf, 182 Ta, 181 W and 185 W were detected in several of the samples, with very low levels of activity …
On the variational approach to Jastrow correlations in nuclei
1973
The variational equation determining the Jastrow correlation function is investigated with particular emphasis on the healing problem for both nuclear matter and finite nuclei. The consequences of several healing conditions are discussed. Furthermore, influences from the choice of the single particle basis and from long range correlations are studied and are found to be small in the short range region.
Ranges of interaction in $$p\bar p$$ scattering at low energies
1991
Thep¯ p cross sections at low energies are analysed in the framework of the optical model. It is shown that the annihilation range is closely related to the size of the proton as measured in electromagnetic and hadronic interactions. At larger distances thep¯ p interaction has the similar character as the NN one.
Streuung von 50 keV-Elektronen an flüssigem Helium
1970
The behaviour of liquid helium in relation to electron-scattering has been investigated. Electrons of 50 keV have been scattered by thin targets of liquid helium with temperatures between 1.34 and 2.15 K. The thickness of targets was chosen between 0.047 and 0.62 mm. The angular distribution and the energy loss of the scattered electrons have been measured in dependence on the thickness of layer and on temperature. The extrapolated range of electrons in liquid helium has been determined.
Search for narrow dibaryon resonances in neutral pion photoproduction from the deuteron
2000
The reaction γd↦π0 X has been measured with TAPS at MAMI in the energy range E γ = 140-300 MeV. Using the Glasgow tagging spectrometer a photon energy resolution of 0.8 MeV was achieved. The energy excitation functions of integral and differential total cross-sections show no structures of statistical significance > 2σ. Upper limits for the production of narrow isoscalar or isovector dibaryons with masses m? 2100 MeV/c2 were deduced. They are in the range 2-5 μb averaged over the 0.8 MeV energy resolution.
Coherent and incoherent π0 photoproduction from the deuteron
2001
Differential cross-sections for the reactions d(gamma,pi (o))d and d(gamma,pi (o))pn have been measured at MAMI with the TAPS detector setup in the energy range 140 MeV > E- > 306 MeV. By use of the Glasgow tagging spectrometer an 0.8 MeV energy resolution for photons incident on the target was achieved. The (o) missing energy resolution was sufficient for a reliable separation of coherent and incoherent channels. The data for the break-up channel exhibit very strong final state interaction effects, whereas the observed angular dependence of the inclusive process d(gamma, pi (o))X is in quantitative agreement with predictions for a quasi-free process. The observed absolute d(gamma, pi (o))X…
High spin shell model excitations in149Gd
1981
The high spin level structure of the three-neutron nucleus149Gd has been investigated by in-beamγ-ray and electron spectroscopy with (α, xn) reactions. The observed levels are characterized as members of the shell model multipletsνf 7 2/3 ,νh 9/2 f 7 2/2 ,νf 7 2/3 ×3−,νh 9/2 f 7 2/2 ×3−, and tentativelyνf 7 2/3 ×(3−)2. The energies of theν f 7 2/3 states agree only moderately with those calculated using empirical two-nucleon interactions taken from148Gd, which indicates the importance of long range contributions already atN=85.
Zur Sekundrelektronenemission durch Argonionen und Argonatome im Energiebereich von 1 bis 20 keV
1966
Be-, CuBe-, Cu- and Al-targets are bombarded by single A+ and A0 in the energy range from 1 to 20 keV. The secondary electrons accelerated by 20 keV are counted by a proportional counter backed by a multichannel analyser. The probability distributionPn of emission ofn=0,1, 2, 3, ... secondary electrons can be found from the pulse height distribution. WhenPn is known the yield for A+ and A0 can be calculated. The counting of neutrals in the energy range investigated is discussed.
The 235 ns 9+ isomer in 63 148 Eu85
1981
From (p, xn) in-beamγ-ray and electron measurements aT1/2=235(14) ns isomer at 720 keV was identified in63148Eu85 and the levels populated in its decay have been characterized. The results determineIπ=9+ for the isomeric state, and we assign it as the (πh11/2j0−2ν f72/3)9+ shell model state, analogous to the configuration of the 235 μs isomer in63146Eu83.
Medium-spin levels in the N=83 nucleus147Gd
1983
Levels of theN=83 nucleus147Gd have been investigated by methods of in-beamγ-ray and conversion electron spectroscopy using the147Sm(3He, 3n) and144Sm(α, n) reactions. Sixteen new low- and medium-spin levels have been observed in147Gd. We have located six members of thevf7/2×3− particle-octupole septuplet and several neutron single-particle states in147Gd. The levels of147Gd are discussed on the basis of the spherical shell model.
