Kirjaston tulevaisuus ja nykyisyys: retrofuturistinen tarkastelu
2012
Humans and Their Technologies Play the Infinite Game
2019
Technology is increasingly about intuitive use and automation, as is evident to some degree in all the papers published in this issue. Technological--and one could say, even civilizational--progress is made possible by automating necessary but often tedious and tiresome processes. This then frees people's time and energy for a variety of recreational, inspirational, and/or developmental tasks. However, as the automation of society advances, the meaning of work changes and new existential and ethical questions emerge. nonPeerReviewed
Medicine of the future: How and who is going to treat us?
2023
Medicine’s ability to quickly respond to challenges raises questions from researchers, practitioners, and society as a whole. Our task in this study was to identify key and atypical current factors influencing the development of medicine and to predict the development of medicine in the short, medium, and long term. To implement our study, we selected 22 medical experts and applied the three-level Delphi method. The current trends caused by COVID-19 have a short-term impact, but they will launch other drivers that will transform the healthcare industry. Well-being technologies, data-informed personalization, and climate change will become key drivers for the development of medicine over the…
Autobiographical memory and the self in a single-case of chronic unilateral spatial neglect
2016
International audience; Unilateral spatial neglect (USN) is mainly defined as a condition affecting perception and the mental representation of the environment. However, nothing is known about its impact on the ability to mentally represent one's past and on personal identity. We addressed these questions in a case of chronic USN, DR, a 59-year-old right-handed woman, who underwent a variety of measures exploring the self and autobiographical memory (AM). DR showed preserved self-images and her AM performance was only preserved when memories were prompted by her own self-images and not by self-unrelated cues. Our findings are discussed in light of the interconnection between the self and AM.

Mediterranean Futuredesign
2020
The Mediterranean cities must regain the richness of their counterpoint, but they must also know how to find new “agreements” to generate a new harmony of the city. Even in the city we must find new agreements between living spaces that produce in turn new types of space, intervals of functions, intervals of vegetation, cultural or social intervals that enrich urban polyphony, between agreements and counterpoints. Designing the cosmopolitan city is therefore an opportunity to discuss and design a model of future that includes the history and memory of crossings, hybridizations, mixtures, metamorphoses in a comprehensive project.
Pioneers as Peers : How Entrepreneurial Journalists Imagine the Futures of Journalism
2021
The article investigates the futures of journalism that pioneering entrepreneurial journalists anticipate. This comprises the different imaginaries that journalists employ to make sense of journalism’s present potentials, anticipate its possible futures, and inform their decision-making. By analysing semi-structured interviews with Finnish entrepreneurial journalists, the article identifies a peer-to-peer imaginary on which the interviewees draw and construct to anticipate the potential futures of journalism. In this peer-to-peer imaginary, journalism is produced in journalists’ and audiences’ peer networks of affinity and shared interests. The imaginary promises elevated audience engagemen…
A Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) Modeling Approach to Prioritize Soil Conservation Management in River Basin Critical Areas Coupled With Future Cl…
2021
About 44% of the Indian landmass experiences the adverse impact of land degradation. This loss of sediments caused by soil erosion reduces the water quality of local water bodies and decreases agricultural land productivity. Therefore, decision-makers must formulate policies and management practices for sustainable management of basins that are cost-effective and environment friendly. Application of the best management practices (BMPs) to properly manage river basins is difficult and time-consuming. Its implication under various climate change scenarios makes it more complicated but necessary to achieve sustainable development. In this study, the soil and water assessment tool (SWAT) model…
Exploring 2040 : Global Trends and International Policies Setting Frames for the Finnish Wood-Based Economy
2022
Global trends influence the approaches and mindset for using natural resources and technological capacities. Participatory scenario methods have proven useful in long-term foresight. However, country-level foresight studies often ignore the broader trends affecting international markets and setting frames for economic development. This study envisions which global trends could occur and how the resulting European policies might affect the Finnish forest sector’s development in 2040. We applied a Futures Wheel approach, where stakeholder groups consisting of policy-, economic- and social sustainability-, technology-, and climate sustainability -experts in the field of forestry and interlinki…
Politiskā līdzdalība, Latvijas gadījums, starptautiskie protesti
2021
