Sortase A Inhibitors: Recent Advances and Future Perspectives

Here, we describe the most promising small synthetic organic compounds that act as potent Sortase A inhibitors and cater the potential to be developed as antivirulence drugs. Sortase A is a polypeptide of 206 amino acids, which catalyzes two sequential reactions: (i) thioesterification and (ii) transpeptidation. Sortase A is involved in the process of bacterial adhesion by anchoring LPXTG-containing proteins to lipid II. Sortase A inhibitors do not affect bacterial growth, but they restrain the virulence of pathogenic bacterial strains, thereby preventing infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus or other Gram-positive bacteria. Exploring Differentiated Disintegration in a Post-Brexit European Union

In the aftermath of the British referendum to leave the European Union and the European Commission's ‘White Paper on the Future of Europe’, it is not only time to take stock of the existing literature on differentiated integration, but also to rethink the perimeters of disintegration. We argue that phenomena such as Brexit embrace forms of differentiation which trigger the need for conceptualizing differentiated disintegration altogether. This article first sketches the path of the scholarly debate in a chronological way to grasp the breadth of existing literature. Coronal mass ejections in the heliosphere

With the advent of the NASA STEREO mission, we are in a position to perform unique investigations of the evolution of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) as they propagate through the heliosphere, and thus can investigate the relationship between CMEs and their interplanetary counterparts, so-called interplanetary CMEs (ICMEs). Multilepton dark matter signals

The signatures of dark matter at the LHC commonly involve, in simplified scenarios, the production of a single particle plus large missing energy, from the undetected dark matter. However, in $Z'$-portal scenarios anomaly cancellation requires the presence of extra dark leptons in the dark sector. We investigate the signatures of the minimal scenarios of this kind, which involve cascade decays of the extra $Z'$ boson into the dark leptons, identifying a four-lepton signal as the most promising one. Pilot study on the validity of the pupillographic sleepiness test in children and adolescents

Abstract Objective To report preliminary validation data for the pupillographic sleepiness test (PST) in children and adolescents. Methods Twelve patients (13.1±4.4years of age) underwent the multiple sleep latency test (MLST) and three PSTs at 09:00, 11:00, and 13:00 on one single day. Correlations were tested between mean sleep latency and gender-adjusted z -values of the natural logarithm of the pupillary unrest index (zlnPUI). Results Spearman's correlation ( P -value) between the zlnPUI values obtained at 09:00 and 11:00 with the MSL was r S =−0.641 (0.025) and r =−0.553 (0.062). AVO4 vanadates are materials of technological importance due to their variety of functional properties. They have applications as scintillators, thermophosphors, photocatalysts, cathodoluminescence, and laser-host materials.
