Blue stars with disk photometry in NGC 6611
2010
NGC 6611 and its parental cloud, the Eagle Nebula (M 16), are well-studied star-forming regions, thanks to their large content of both OB stars and stars with disks and the observed ongoing star formation. In our previous studies of the Eagle Nebula, we identified 834 disk-bearing stars associated with the cloud, after detecting their excesses in NIR bands from J band to 8.0um. In this paper, we study in detail the nature of a subsample of disk-bearing stars that show peculiar characteristics. They appear older than the other members in the V vs. V-I diagram, and/or they have one or more IRAC colors at pure photospheric values, despite showing NIR excesses, when optical and infrared colors …
Coupled dark matter-dark energy in light of near Universe observations
2010
Cosmological analysis based on currently available observations are unable to rule out a sizeable coupling among the dark energy and dark matter fluids. We explore a variety of coupled dark matter-dark energy models, which satisfy cosmic microwave background constraints, in light of low redshift and near universe observations. We illustrate the phenomenology of different classes of dark coupling models, paying particular attention in distinguishing between effects that appear only on the expansion history and those that appear in the growth of structure. We find that while a broad class of dark coupling models are effectively models where general relativity (GR) is modified - and thus can b…
Looking for MACHOs in the Spectra of Fast Radio Bursts
2019
We explore a novel search strategy for dark matter in the form of massive compact halo objects (MACHOs) such as primordial black holes or dense mini-halos in the mass range from $10^{-4}$ to 0.1 solar masses. These objects can gravitationally lens the signal of fast radio bursts (FRBs), producing a characteristic interference pattern in the frequency spectrum, similar to the previously studied femtolensing signal in gamma ray burst spectra. Unlike traditional searches using microlensing, FRB lensing will probe the abundance of MACHOs at cosmological distance scales (~Gpc) rather than just their distribution in the neighborhood of the Milky Way. The method is thus particularly relevant for d…
Nebular emission lines towards NGC3372 center
2016
We present observations from the Gaia-ESO Survey in the lines of H{alpha}, [NII], [SII], and He I of nebular emission in the central part of the Carina nebula. We investigate the properties of the two already known kinematic components (approaching and receding), which account for the bulk of emission. Moreover, we investigate the features of the much less known low-intensity high-velocity (absolute RV>50km/s) gas emission. We show that gas giving rise to H{alpha} and HeI emission is dynamically well correlated with but not identical to gas seen through forbidden-line emission. Gas temperatures are derived from line-width ratios, and densities from [SII] doublet ratios. The spatial variatio…
Infrated photometry of NGC 1893
2008
The independence of the star formation processes with respect to the environmental conditions is controversial. In particular it is not clear whether star formation in the outer Galaxy, where the environmental conditions are, theoretically, less conducive, occurs in the same way as in the inner Galaxy. We investigate the population of NGC 1893, a young cluster (~3-4Myr) in the outer part of the Galaxy (galactic radius >11kpc) in order to explore the effects of environmental conditions on star forming regions. We present the infrared observations obtained with the IRAC camera on board of the Spitzer Space Telescope and analyze the color-color diagrams to establish the membership of stars wit…
Old MS stars in young moving groups
2009
The associations and moving groups of young stars are excellent laboratories to investigate the stellar formation in the solar neighborhood. Past results confirmed that a non-negligible fraction of old main-sequence stars is present in the lists of members of the young stellar kinematic groups. A detailed study on the properties of these samples is needed to separate the young stars from old main-sequence stars with similar space motion, in order to identify the origin of these structures. Our intention is to characterize the sample of stars members of the young moving groups and determine their age distribution to quantify the contamination by old main-sequence stars, in particular, in the…
Zeeman effect in sulfur monoxide (SO)
2017
Magnetic fields play a fundamental role in star formation processes and the best method to evaluate their intensity is to measure the Zeeman effect of atomic and molecular lines. However, a direct measurement of the Zeeman spectral pattern from interstellar molecular species is challenging due to the high sensitivity and high spectral resolution required. So far, the Zeeman effect has been detected unambiguously in star forming regions for very few non-masing species, such as OH and CN. We decided to investigate the suitability of sulfur monoxide (SO), which is one of the most abundant species in star forming regions, for probing the intensity of magnetic fields via the Zeeman effect. We in…
APOKASC-2 catalog of Kepler evolved stars
2019
We present a catalog of stellar properties for a large sample of 6676 evolved stars with Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment spectroscopic parameters and Kepler asteroseismic data analyzed using five independent techniques. Our data include evolutionary state, surface gravity, mean density, mass, radius, age, and the spectroscopic and asteroseismic measurements used to derive them. We employ a new empirical approach for combining asteroseismic measurements from different methods, calibrating the inferred stellar parameters, and estimating uncertainties. With high statistical significance, we find that asteroseismic parameters inferred from the different pipelines have sys…
UBVRI photometry of NGC 2422
2003
We present UBVRI photometry of the open cluster NGC 2422 (age~10^8^yr) down to a limiting magnitude V=~19. These data are used to derive the Luminosity and Mass Functions and to study the cluster spatial distribution. By considering the color-magnitude diagram data and adopting a representative cluster main sequence, we obtained a list of candidate cluster members based on a photometric criterion. Cone search capability for table J/A+A/404/927/table4 (Astrometric/photometric catalog of candidate members of the open cluster NGC 2422)
Activity and accretion in {gamma} Vel and Cha I
2015
We use the fundamental parameters (effective temperature, surface gravity, lithium abundance, and radial velocity) delivered by the GES consortium in the first internal data release to select the members of Gamma Vel and Cha I among the UVES and GIRAFFE spectroscopic observations. A total of 140 Gamma Vel members and 74 Cha I members were studied. The procedure adopted by the GES to derive stellar fundamental parameters provided also measures of the projected rotational velocity (vsini). We calculated stellar luminosities through spectral energy distributions, while stellar masses were derived by comparison with evolutionary tracks. The spectral subtraction of low-activity and slowly rotati…
