Flow injection determination of free and total cholesterol in animal greases using enzymes in non-aqueous media

1998

A non-covalently coimmobilized bienzymic reactor of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and cholesterol oxidase (COD), operating in a continuous organic flowing stream of 1 × 10–3 M p-anisidine in buffer-saturated (pH 7.0) toluene, has been employed for cholesterol determination in animal greases, such as pig, beef, and chicken fat, and codfish liver oil. The method provides a good linear relationship up to 1.8 × 10–3 M cholesterol and average recoveries of 99.5%, a high sensitivity, with a detection limit of 1 × 10–6 M of cholesterol and a good precision (an interday RSD of 1.8% for the determination of total cholesterol in a codfish oil sample). The method permits the direct spectrophotometric d…

Cylindrical optical microcavities: Basic properties and sensor applications

2011

Abstract A detailed theoretical analysis of the basic properties of whispering-gallery modes (WGM) of thin capillaries is presented. The sensitivity of the resonances, as well as the Q factor is analyzed as a function of the structural parameters of the capillary and the refractive index inside the capillary. A practical application where thin capillaries are used for the measurement of glucose concentration in water is presented as a chemical sensor demonstrator. A best sensitivity of 1.24 nm/% of glucose concentration in water is reported, which corresponds to more than 850 nm/RIU. Additionally, different experimental approaches are discussed to improve the sensitivity and the detection l…

Spark source mass spectrometric assessment of boron and nitrogen concentrations in crystalline gallium arsenide

1999

The residual or doped element concentration [E] in GaAs measured by SSMS is only accurate with respect to the relative sensitivity coefficient RSCE. For a trace element concentration, the RSCE = [E]SSMS/[E]TRUE is set to unity, if no reference material or method is available to approximate the concentration to the true value. For boron a relative sensitivity coefficient of RSCB = 0.94 ± 0.08 was obtained using TI-IDMS as a reference method. RSCN = 1 is used for nitrogen determinations. A boron and nitrogen detection limit of 4.4 × 1013 cm–3 is achieved. SSMS was used as reference method to calibrate the FTIR factor fE = [E] / Iα due to the integrated local vibrational mode absorption Iα of …

Extracellular site of action of phenylalkylamines on L-type calcium current in rat ventricular myocytes.

1995

The effects of the phenylalkylamines verapamil, gallopamil, and devapamil on L-type calcium currents (ICa) were studied in ventricular myocytes from rat hearts using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. In particular, the question was addressed, whether the pharmacological binding sites for these drugs were located at the inner and/or at the outer surface of the cell membrane. Therefore, tertiary verapamil, gallopamil, and devapamil and their corresponding quaternary derivatives were applied either from the outside or the inside of the cell membrane. Extracellular application of verapamil, gallopamil and devapamil (each at 3 microM) reduced ICa to 16.1 +/- 8.6%, 11 +/- 8.9%, and 9.3 +/- 6%…

In vivo comparison of DOTA based 68Ga-labelled bisphosphonates for bone imaging in non-tumour models.

2013

Bone metastases are a class of cancerous metastases that result from the invasion of a tumor into bone. The solid mass which forms inside the bone is often associated with a constant dull ache and severe spikes in pain, which greatly reduce the quality of life of the patient. Numerous (99m)Tc-labeled bisphosphonate functionalised complexes are well established tracers for bone metastases imaging. The objective of this research was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics and behaviour of three DOTA based bisphosphonate functionalised ligands (BPAMD, BPAPD and BPPED), using both (68)Ga μ-PET in vivo imaging and ex vivo biodistribution studies in healthy Wistar rats. The compounds were labelled with …

An unusual case of chronic diarrhea: a case report

2022

Gastroenteropancreatic-neuroendocrine neoplasms or tumors (GEP-NEN or NETs) are rare tumors arising from the diffuse neuroendocrine system. This clinical case highlights the complexity of the diagnostic process and the difficulties in interpreting the examinations for this type of tumor, showing how the negativity of firstlevel examinations did not prevent from performing further investigations, in the presence of a suggestive clinical presentation. The search of similar cases in the published literature suggests that this represents an unusual presentation of a NET.

Kurzemes un Zemgales hercogiste no 1561. - 1795.gadam latviešu historiogrāfijas vērtējumā

2018

Defect interaction and local structural distortions in Mg-doped LaGaO3: A combined experimental and theoretical study

2017

A combined experimental and theoretical study of Mg-doped LaGaO3 electrolyte was carried out, with the aim to unveil the interaction between oxygen vacancy (Vo) and perovskite B site cations. LaGaO3 (LG) and LaGa0.875Mg0.125O2.938 (LGM0125) samples were comprehensively characterized by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray diffraction, in order to investigate short- and long-range structures of both undoped and Mg-doped materials. XAS analysis evidenced a preferential Ga-Vo interaction in LGM0125, confirmed by periodic hybrid density functional theory calculations, which were combined with a symmetry-independent classes (SICs) approach in order to (a) obtain a detailed picture of th…

Growth of nanometric CuGaxOystructures on copper substrates

2005

This paper presents an alternative method based on the metal–organic chemical vapour deposition technique to obtain new nanowire structures. Here, the metal–organic precursor acts as a catalyst and interacts with a metallic substrate to produce 3D structures such as nanowires. In the present case, trimethyl gallium interacts with a copper metallic substrate to build a single-crystalline CuGaxOy wire structure. Electronic microscopy techniques on image or diffraction modes have provided the structural and chemical characterization of the obtained nanowires.
