Recent Borexino results and perspectives of the SOX measurement

International audience; Borexino is a liquid scintillator detector sited underground in the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (Italy). Its physics program, until the end of this year, is focussed on the study of solar neutrinos, in particular from the Beryllium, pp, pep and CNO fusion reactions. Knowing the reaction chains in the sun provides insights towards physics disciplines such as astrophysics (star physics, star formation, etc.), astroparticle and particle physics. Phase II started in 2011 and its aim is to improve the phase I results, in particular the measurements of the neutrino fluxes from the pep and CNO processes. Failure Analysis of a Humeral Shaft Locking Compression Plate—Surface Investigation and Simulation by Finite Element Method

A case study of a failed humeral shaft locking compression plate is presented, starting with a clinical case where failure occurred and an implant replacement was required. This study uses finite element method (FEM) in order to determine the failure modes for the clinical case. Four loading scenarios that simulate daily life activities were considered for determining the stress distribution in a humeral shaft locking compression plate (LCP). Referring to the simulation results, the failure analysis was performed on the explant. Scattering loss analysis in PMMA WGM micro resonator from surface irregularities

The following work shows new ways to analyze PMMA WGM micro resonators, that have irregularities, which acts as scattering centers. The scattering analyses could be used for integration into sensor systems and corrections of existing experiments.

This thesis was performed at the Institut de Chimie Moléculaire de d’Université de Bourgogne (France) and in the Département de chimie de l’Université de Sherbrooke (Québec). The aim of this work was to design new BODIPY derivatives in order to obtain optimal properties for in vivo bimodal optical/PET or SPECT imaging. The modifications concern the hydrosolubilisation of these organic dyes, as well as the shifting of the absorption and emission bands toward the therapeutic window, where the light is less attenuated by biological tissues. Fabrication of CZTSe/CIGS Nanowire Arrays by One-Step Electrodeposition for Solar-Cell Application

The paper reports some preliminary results concerning the manufacturing process of CuZnSnSe (CZTSe) and CuInGaSe (CIGS) nanowire arrays obtained by one-step electrodeposition for p-n junction fabrication. CZTSe nanowires were obtained through electrodeposition in a polycarbonate membrane by applying a rectangular pulsed current, while their morphology was optimized by appropriately setting the potential and the electrolyte composition. The electrochemical parameters, including pH and composition of the solution, were optimized to obtain a mechanically stable array of nanowires. Bakalaura darba „Medņu Tetrao urogallus populācija un tās aizsardzība Smiltenes novadā” pētījuma ietvaros tika veikta Smiltenes novadā esošajās medņu riesta vietās medņu gaiļu uzskaite laika posmā no 2012. gada līdz 2014. gadam. Autore ir iepazinusies ar zinātnisko literatūru par medņu bioloģiju, ekoloģiju un to aizsardzību, medņu gaiļu uzskaites metodiku un riestošanas vietām, kā arī medņu skaita ietekmējošajiem faktoriem. Iegūtie rezultāti ir apkopoti bakalaura darbā, kurš sastāv no 15 attēliem, 10 grafikiem un desmit pielikumiem.
