The Theory of Change approach aims to clarify the underlying logic of an intervention by first identifying the problem addressed and the desired outcome, and then backwards mapping the actions taken and the expected results and outcomes. In so doing, it aims to simplify the expression of intermediate goals and indicators and provide a common reference for the participants and stakeholders of the intervention itself. Playful approaches to news engagement

From crossword puzzles and quizzes to more complex gamification strategies and serious newsgames, legacy media has long explored ways to deploy playful approaches to deliver their content and engage with the audience. We examine how news and games fit together when news organizations, game creators and news audiences welcome gameful forms of communication and participation. Moreover, we reflect on the theoretical and empirical significance of merging news with games as a way to reformulate normative assumptions, production practices and consumption patterns. As a result, the boundaries between journalism and game’s logics start to erode, and they begin to find new ways of converging.

OpenQuest: Designing a Motivational Framework for MOOCs Instruction

This paper introduces an innovative motivational framework for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) instructional design coined as Open Quest Framework (OpenQuest). OpenQuest aims to improve learning and user engagement in MOOCs by drawing lessons from the success of quest-based initiatives, gamified web platforms, and massive-multiplayer online games (MMOs).
