Optical rotary power at the resonance of the Terbium 7F6→5D4 line in Terbium Gallium Garnet

1998

Abstract The Tb 3+ absorption line 7 F 6 → 5 D 4 of the Terbium Gallium Garnet crystal is excited with an Argon ion laser. The Verdet's constant has been determined and reported against 1/ λ 2 , showing no significant resonant behaviour at absorption resonance. The utility and the constraints of the crystal at this particular resonant wavelength are pointed out.

Spatio-temporal structures of laser-induced anisotropy

1999

We report new observations of optical spatio-temporal structures formed in terbium gallium garnet when it is excited at resonance by a strong laser beam. We also present a theoretical description of this pattern formation, which accounts well for our observations. We finally discuss useful applications of both time and power dependence of these structures.

Band Gap Modeling of Different Ternary and Quaternary Alumina Garnet Phases Y3(AlXGa1-X)5O12 (YAGG) and Lu3(AlXGa1-X)5O12 (LuAGG). A Semiempirical Ap…

2022

A further generalization to quaternary oxide systems of the modeling equation of optical band gap values, based on the semiempirical correlation between the differences in the electronegativity of oxygen and the average cationic electronegativity, proposed some years ago, has been carried out by expanding the approach recently employed for ternary mixed oxides. The choice of oxide polymorphs and their influence on the fitting procedure of an experimental data set is evidenced by a detailed discussion of the fitting process of the literature's experimental band gap data pertaining two quaternary oxide systems of the garnet family, namely, Y3(AlxGa1-x)5O12 (YAGG) and Lu3(AlxGa1-x)5O12 (LuAGG)…

Observation of dark dot splitting pattern in terbium gallium garnet

1999

We have observed a new polarisation pattern in terbium gallium garnet which is both laser excited and mechanically stressed. The pattern can be characterized by a splitting from a “one dot” structure to a “two dots” structure. We have found that the new pattern is very sensitive to the orientation and the strength of the external forces applied to the sample. Thanks to this sensitivity and to the image simplicity, this new effect may be used in a vectorial force sensor and actuator.

Preparation and characterization of Ce:YAG-PMMA and Ce:YAG-PC composites for white LED

2015

Polymeric composites of lanthanide-doped materials were considered as potential candidates for the development of white LED. Ce:YAG-PMMA and Ce:YAG-PC composites were prepared by melt compounding. The characterization was performed using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, thermogravimetry and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The effect of filler quantity, in the range 0.1-5 wt.%, on the morphology, optical and thermal properties was investigated.

Magnons at low excitations: Observation of incoherent coupling to a bath of two-level systems

2019

Collective magnetic excitation modes, magnons, can be coherently coupled to microwave photons in the single excitation limit. This allows for access to quantum properties of magnons and opens up a range of applications in quantum information processing, with the intrinsic magnon linewidth representing the coherence time of a quantum resonator. Our measurement system consists of a yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere and a three-dimensional (3D) microwave cavity at temperatures and excitation powers typical for superconducting quantum circuit experiments. We perform spectroscopic measurements to determine the limiting factor of magnon coherence at these experimental conditions. Using the input-o…

Thickness and power dependence of the spin-pumping effect inY3Fe5O12/Pt heterostructures measured by the inverse spin Hall effect

2015

The dependence of the spin-pumping effect on the yttrium iron garnet $({\mathrm{Y}}_{3}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{5}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$, YIG) thickness detected by the inverse spin Hall effect (ISHE) has been investigated quantitatively. Due to the spin-pumping effect driven by the magnetization precession in the ferrimagnetic insulator ${\mathrm{Y}}_{3}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{5}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$ film a spin-polarized electron current is injected into the Pt layer. This spin current is transformed into electrical charge current by means of the ISHE. An increase of the ISHE voltage with increasing film thickness is observed and compared to the theoretically expected behavior. The effective damping parameter of t…

Complex Terahertz and Direct Current Inverse Spin Hall Effect in YIG/Cu1-xIrx Bilayers Across a Wide Concentration Range

2018

We measure the inverse spin Hall effect of Cu1-xIrx thin films on yttrium iron garnet over a wide range of Ir concentrations (0.05 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.7). Spin currents are triggered through the spin Seebeck effect, either by a continuous (dc) temperature gradient or by ultrafast optical heating of the metal layer. The spin Hall current is detected by electrical contacts or measurement of the emitted terahertz radiation. With both approaches, we reveal the same Ir concentration dependence that follows a novel complex, nonmonotonous behavior as compared to previous studies. For small Ir concentrations a signal minimum is observed, whereas a pronounced maximum appears near the equiatomic composition. We …
