A Tool for Implementing and Exploring SBM Models: Universal 1D Invertible Cellular Automata
2005
The easiest form of designing Cellular Automata rules with features such as invertibility or particle conserving is to rely on a partitioning scheme, the most important of which is the 2D Margolus neighborhood. In this paper we introduce a 1D Margolus-like neighborhood that gives support to a complete set of Cellular Automata models. We present a set of models called Sliding Ball Models based on this neighborhood and capable of universal computation. We show the way of designing logic gates with these models, propose a digital structure to implement them and finally we present SBMTool, a software development system capable of working with the new models.
Supervised learning of time-independent Hamiltonians for gate design
2018
We present a general framework to tackle the problem of finding time-independent dynamics generating target unitary evolutions. We show that this problem is equivalently stated as a set of conditions over the spectrum of the time-independent gate generator, thus transforming the task to an inverse eigenvalue problem. We illustrate our methodology by identifying suitable time-independent generators implementing Toffoli and Fredkin gates without the need for ancillae or effective evolutions. We show how the same conditions can be used to solve the problem numerically, via supervised learning techniques. In turn, this allows us to solve problems that are not amenable, in general, to direct ana…
Approximate supervised learning of quantum gates via ancillary qubits
2018
We present strategies for the training of a qubit network aimed at the ancilla-assisted synthesis of multi-qubit gates based on a set of restricted resources. By assuming the availability of only time-independent single and two-qubit interactions, we introduce and describe a supervised learning strategy implemented through momentum-stochastic gradient descent with automatic differentiation methods. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the scheme by discussing the implementation of non-trivial three qubit operations, including a Quantum Fourier Transform (QFT) and a half-adder gate.
Top-k String Similarity Joins
2020
Top-k joins have been extensively studied in relational databases as ranking operations when every object has, among others, at least one ranking attribute. However, the focus has mostly been the case when the join attributes are of primitive data types (e.g., numerical values) and the join predicate is equality. In this work, we consider string objects assigned such ranking attributes or simply scores. Given two collection of string objects and a string similarity measure (e.g., the Edit distance), we introduce the top-k string similarity join () which returns k sufficiently similar pairs of objects with respect to a similarity threshold ϵ, which have the highest combined score computed by…
Fabrication, characterization, thermal stability and nanoassemblies of novel pullulan-aspirin conjugates
2017
Abstract Present study deals with homogeneous and one-pot synthesis of novel macromolecular prodrugs (MPDs) of aspirin onto naturally occurring hydrophilic biopolymer pullulan. Pullulan-aspirin conjugates were synthesized by using green carboxylic acid activating reagent 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (CDI). The aspirin was first reacted with CDI to prepare aspirin-imidazolide at RT for 24 h which in situ reacted with pre-dissolved pullulan and the reaction preceded further for 24 h at 80 °C under nitrogen. Degree of substitution (DS 0.32–0.40) of aspirin onto pullulan was calculated from 1H NMR spectroscopy. Spectroscopic techniques confirmed the high covalent drug loading and purity. Thermal an…
Polymorphism-Triggered Reversible Thermochromic Fluorescence of a simple 1,8-Naphthyridine
2013
The fluorescent behavior in the solid state of a naphthyridine-based donor–acceptor heterocycle is presented. Synthesized as a crystalline blue-emissive solid (Pbca), the compound can easily be transformed in its P21/c polymorphic form by heating. The latter material shows blue to cyan emission switching triggered by a reversible thermally induced phase transformation. This fact, the reversible acidochromism, and the strong anisotropic fluorescence of the compound in the solid state, account for the potential of 1,8-naphthyridines as simple and highly tunable organic compounds in materials science.
Synthesis and characterization of polyene chromophores with hydroxyl functionalization
2008
Abstract Eight hydroxyl functionalized donor–acceptor polyene chromophores 3–10 were synthesized and characterized. Knoevenagel condensation reaction of aromatic polyenals with 2-cyanoacetamide derivatives was utilized to synthesize chromophores with all-E configuration. Chromophores of this kind can be attached covalently to polymers or functionalized with dendrons in order to tune the properties. The structures of the molecules were verified by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, ESI-TOF mass spectrometry and UV–vis measurements. Reduced bond-length alternation of the molecules in DMSO-d6 solution were observed by calculating the average difference of the vicinal coupling constants between adjacent CH CH an…
Rapid Self-Healing and Thixotropic Organogelation of Amphiphilic Oleanolic Acid–Spermine Conjugates
2021
Natural and abundant plant triterpenoids are attractive starting materials for the synthesis of conformationally rigid and chiral building blocks for functional soft materials. Here, we report the rational design of three oleanolic acid-triazole-spermine conjugates, containing either one or two spermine units in the target molecules, using the Cu(I)-catalyzed Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction. The resulting amphiphile-like molecules 2 and 3, bearing just one spermine unit in the respective molecules, self-assemble into highly entangled fibrous networks leading to gelation at a concentration as low as 0.5% in alcoholic solvents. Using step-strain rheological measurements, we show ra…
Implementation on NI-SOM sbRIO-9651 and Experimental Validation of Multi-Carrier PWM Techniques for Three-Phase Five Level Cascaded H-Bridge Inverter
2021
Multilevel Power Inverters (MPIs) represent a valid solution to improve the performances of energy production systems from renewable energy sources. Furthermore, the use of novel FPGA control systems allows simplifying the implementation of multicarrier PWM techniques for MPIs with computational benefits. This paper describes the implementation of several multicarrier PWM techniques on NI-SOM sbRIO-9651 for the control of a three-phase five-level cascaded H-bridge inverter. In detail, sbRIO-9651 is a control system in the field of Power Electronics and Drives (PED) programmable in the LabVIEW graphical programming environment. The paper is focused on modulation techniques implementation, te…
Detoxifying antitumoral drugs via nanoconjugation: the case of gold nanoparticles and cisplatin
2021
Nanoparticles (NPs) have emerged as a potential tool to improve cancer treatment. Among the proposed uses in imaging and therapy, their use as a drug delivery scaffold has been extensively highlighted. However, there are still some controversial points which need a deeper understanding before clinical application can occur. Here the use of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to detoxify the antitumoral agent cisplatin, linked to a nanoparticle via a pH-sensitive coordination bond for endosomal release, is presented. The NP conjugate design has important effects on pharmacokinetics, conjugate evolution and biodistribution and results in an absence of observed toxicity. Besides, AuNPs present unique o…
