Segmental Organization of Cephalic Ganglia in Arthropods
2007
Cephalic ganglia in arthropods encompass neuromeres of the supraesophageal ganglion (i.e., the brain) and the subesophageal ganglion. Whereas neuromeres of the subesophageal ganglion are clearly distinguishable, the segmental pattern of the brain is derived and less well understood. In this article, we give an overview of the current state of a long-lasting debate on the segmental organization of the arthropod head and brain, discussing embryonic morphological and molecular data, with a main focus on insects. Embryonic expression data on key developmental genes such as engrailed, orthodenticle, and Hox genes will be summarized to compare the metameric organization of the head (sub- and supr…
Peritumoral Edema in Meningiomas
1994
Although generally benign tumors, meningiomas may be associated with extensive peritumoral brain edema as seen on computed tomographic scans. Fifty-two patients with intracranial meningiomas were studied, and the hypodense areas on computed tomographic scans were related to the intraoperative microsurgical findings and to the sizes of the tumors. We have identified three kinds of tumor-brain interfaces characterized by different difficulties in microsurgical dissection: smooth type, transitional type, and invasive type. These different microsurgical interfaces seem to correlate very precisely with computed tomographic images of halo-like and finger-like hypodense areas, allowing prediction …

The Italian validation of the Montreal Global definition and classification of gastroesophageal reflux disease
2009
Recently, a Global definition and a classification of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) were developed by Montreal Consensus Group, composed of international expert gastroenterologists. Guidelines and consensus documents are, however, infrequently accepted and adopted at a local level. The aim of this study was to measure the acceptance of Montreal Global definition of GERD consensus document by specialists in a single country (Italy) and to measure the linguistic, scientific, and practical differences between the international consensus document and the Italian version.A 2-day meeting was held in June 2007 in Rome, Italy, attended by 147 Italian physicians who were experts in gastroen…
First report of root and crown rot of sage caused by Phytophthora cryptogea in Italy
2019
Sages are cultivated as aromatic and ornamental plants in Italy and represent the common name of certain species of Salvia and Phlomis (family Lamiaceae). In Sicily (southern Italy) during the summer of 2001, ≈40% of 1,400 2-year-old landscape plants of S. leucantha Cav. (Mexican bush sage or velvet sage) showed symptoms of stunting, chlorosis, and gradual dieback or sudden wilt, which are associated with root and crown rot. Plants were supplied by a commercial nursery, transplanted from pots in the spring, and irrigated using a trickle system. Phytophthora was isolated consistently from roots and basal stems of symptomatic plants on a BNPRAH medium (2). The species was identified as P. cr…
La cineradiografia digitale nella diagnosi e nel trattamento chirurgico dei disordini motori della giunzione faringo-esofagea
2004
The aim of the study was to report our experience with the use of radiology in functional disorders of the cricopharyngeal muscle and their surgical therapy using digital cineradiology. Five-hundred and seventy dysphagic patients underwent dynamic study of the oral and pharyngeal phases of swallowing (Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study, VFSS). A motor disorder of the cricopharyngeal muscle was diagnosed by videofluorography in 19 patients: the disorder was mild in 8, moderate in 7 and severe in 4. Two of these underwent cricopharyngeal myotomy, with an improvement in their dysphagia and swallowing mechanisms. VFSS provides a morphological and functional view of the aero-digestive tracts: th…
Endoscopic treatment of laryngeal stenosis There is no universal protocol in management of laryngeal stenosis. The aim of this study is compare the endoscopic and open surgery to give recommendations to treatment of this stenosis. Given the results obtained, the endoscopic surgery can be the gold estándar in glottic …

ASCO-Update 2015 – Neuigkeiten vom 51. Meeting der American Society of Clinical Oncology/ASCO 2015
2016
The field of gastrointestinal oncology is rapidly developing, on the one hand through the identification of novel molecular targets and therapeutic principles, on the other hand through the establishment and improvement of multidisciplinary treatment strategies. The following manuscript summarizes the most important trial results of the ASCO Meeting 2015 for gastrointestinal cancers. Besides trials on perioperative treatment of esophageal-, pancreatic- and colon cancer, we will present impressive data on new therapeutic strategies such as immunotherapy in gastric-, liver and microsatellite instable colorectal cancer. The trials will be put into context by the authors.
ViziQuer: A Visual Notation for RDF Data Analysis Queries
2019
Visual SPARQL query notations aim at easing the RDF data querying task. At the current state of the art there is still no generally accepted visual graph-based notation suitable to describe RDF data analysis queries that involve aggregation and subqueries. In this paper we present a visual diagram-centered notation for SPARQL select query formulation, capable to handle aggregate/statistics queries and hierarchic queries with subquery structure. The notation is supported by a web-based prototype tool. We present the notation examples, describe its syntax and semantics and describe studies with possible end users, involving both IT and medicine students.
