Diagnostica non invasiva delle varici esofagee nei pazienti con cirrosi epatica: dati ecografici vs dati endoscopici
2008
The aim of this study was to identify possible clinical, biochemical or instrumental markers which can predict in a non-invasive manner the presence of EV. One hundred and fifty-eight consecutive liver cirrhotic patients seen at our outpatient clinic were included in this study. The diagnosis of LC was done on liver biopsy findings or based on instru m e n t a l , clinical and serological data. Patients underwent EGE, ultra - sound of the upper abdomen, Doppler of the main splancnic vessels and the main parameters of liver function were tested. Liver cirrhosis was mostly correlated to hepatitis C virus and most patients were class A according to Child. At EGE, EV w e re absent in 41 patient…
Diagnosis, assessment, and management of surgical complications following esophagectomy
2018
Despite improvements in operative strategies for esophageal resection, anastomotic leaks, fistula, postoperative pulmonary complications, and chylothorax can occur. Our review seeks to identify potential risk factors, modalities for early diagnosis, and novel interventions that may ameliorate the potential adverse effects of these surgical complications following esophagectomy. ispartof: Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences vol:1434 issue:1 pages:254-273 ispartof: location:United States status: Published online
Synthesis and In Vitro Evaluation of Defined HPMA Folate Conjugates: Influence of Aggregation on Folate Receptor (FR) Mediated Cellular Uptake
2010
In this article we report the synthesis and in vitro evaluation of well-defined, folate functionalized and fluorescently labeled polymers based on the clinically approved N-(2-hydroxypropyl)-methacrylamide (HPMA). The polymers were prepared applying the RAFT polymerization method as well as the reactive ester approach. The molecular weights of the polymers synthesized were around 15 and 30 kDa. The total content of conjugated folate varied from 0, 5, and 10 mol %. The cellular uptake of these polymers was investigated in the folate receptor (FR)-positive human nasopharyngeal epidermal carcinoma (KB-3-1) and FR-negative human lung epithelial carcinoma (A549) cancer cell lines. In FR-positive…
A gene encoding an antigen recognized by cytolytic T lymphocytes on a human melanoma.
1991
Many human melanoma tumors express antigens that are recognized in vitro by cytolytic T lymphocytes (CTLs) derived from the tumor-bearing patient. A gene was identified that directed the expression of antigen MZ2-E on a human melanoma cell line. This gene shows no similarity to known sequences and belongs to a family of at least three genes. It is expressed by the original melanoma cells, other melanoma cell lines, and by some tumor cells of other histological types. No expression was observed in a panel of normal tissues. Antigen MZ2-E appears to be presented by HLA-A1; anti-MZ2-E CTLs of the original patient recognized two melanoma cell lines of other HLA-A1 patients that expressed the ge…
Barn som er utsatt for omsorgssvikt - hvordan oppdage dem? : en kvalitativ studie som belyser hvordan barnehageansatte oppdager barn som er utsatt fo…

Masteroppgave i psykisk helsearbeid ME504 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Background: Suspected child abuse reports to Child Protective Services (CPS) made by pre-school teachers has been on the rise. Consequently, that raises the question about whether the teachers' knowledge or awareness of child abuse or the actual number of children who have been abused has increased. Pre-school teachers, as many other professionals who work with children on a daily basis, face many challenges in their work place. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to describe the pre-school teachers' experiences with child abuse, including how they identify children who have been abused and how they determine whether they…
Fish and human health: an umbrella review of observational studies
2022
Fish represents one of the most important dietary sources of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are known to be associated with various health benefits. This study aimed to systematically review existing meta-analyses of observational studies exploring the association between fish intake and various health outcomes. A systematic search of electronic databases was conducted to retrieve a total of 63 studies. Evidence was deemed as possible for the association between higher fish intake and decreased risk of the acute coronary syndrome, liver cancer, and depression, and limited for other outcomes (including age-related macular degeneration, Alzheimer’s disease, heart failure, all-caus…
EORTC-1203-GITCG - the “INNOVATION”-trial: Effect of chemotherapy alone versus chemotherapy plus trastuzumab, versus chemotherapy plus trastuzumab pl…
2019
10–20% of patients with gastric cancer (GC) have HER2+ tumors. Addition of trastuzumab (T) to cisplatin/fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy (CT) improved survival in metastatic, HER2+ GC. When pertuzumab (P) was added to neoadjuvant T and CT, a significant increase in histopathological complete response rate was observed in HER2+ breast cancer. This study aims to investigate the added benefit of using both HER2 targeting drugs (T alone or the combination of T + P), in combination with perioperative CT for localized HER2+ GC. This is a prospective, randomized, open-label, phase II trial. HER2 status from patients with resectable GC (UICC TNM7 tumor stage Ib-III) will be centrally determined.…
KEYNOTE-975 study design: a Phase III study of definitive chemoradiotherapy plus pembrolizumab in patients with esophageal carcinoma
2021
Despite curative-intent treatment, most patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer will experience disease recurrence or locoregional progression, highlighting the need for new therapies. Current guidelines recommend definitive chemoradiotherapy in patients ineligible for surgical resection, but survival outcomes are poor. Pembrolizumab is well tolerated and provides promising antitumor activity in patients with previously treated, advanced, unresectable esophageal/esophagogastric junction cancer. Combining pembrolizumab with chemoradiotherapy may further improve outcomes in the first-line setting. Here, we describe the design and rationale for the double-blind, Phase III, placebo-co…
Shared Genetic Etiology of Obesity-Related Traits and Barrett's Esophagus/Adenocarcinoma: Insights from Genome-Wide Association Studies
2020
Abstract Background: Obesity is a major risk factor for esophageal adenocarcinoma (EA) and its precursor Barrett's esophagus (BE). Research suggests that individuals with high genetic risk to obesity have a higher BE/EA risk. To facilitate understanding of biological factors that lead to progression from BE to EA, the present study investigated the shared genetic background of BE/EA and obesity-related traits. Methods: Cross-trait linkage disequilibrium score regression was applied to summary statistics from genome-wide association meta-analyses on BE/EA and on obesity traits. Body mass index (BMI) was used as a proxy for general obesity, and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) for abdominal obesity. …
Angioedema due to acquired C1-inhibitor deficiency: spectrum and treatment with C1-inhibitor concentrate
2018
Abstract Background Acquired angioedema due to C1-inhibitor (C1-INH) deficiency (AAE-C1-INH) is a serious condition that may result in life-threatening asphyxiation due to laryngeal edema. It is associated with malignant B-cell lymphoma and other disorders. The purpose of this study was to describe the characteristics and associated disorders of patients with AAE-C1-INH and assess the efficacy of plasma-derived C1-INH concentrate (pdC1-INH) in the treatment of AAE-C1-INH. Forty-four patients with AAE-C1-INH from the Angioedema Outpatient Service of Mainz were assessed for associated disorders. In 32 of these patients, the duration of swelling attacks was measured before and after treatment …
