SURGICAL TREATMENT OF SACROCOCCYGEAL PILONIDAL SINUS WITH THE LIMBERG FLAP: REVIEW OF 81 CASES

2016

Pilonidal sinus disease is a complex condition that causes both discomfort and embarassment to suffers. Direct cost through absence from work is high. Controversy still exists regarding the best surgical technique for its treatment in terms of minimizing disease recurrence and patient discomfort. Thus, we conducted this study to evaluate the results of rhomboid excision and Limberg flap reconstruction in the surgical treatment of pilonidal sinus disease. This prospective study included 81 patients who had pilonidal sinus and were treated by the rhomboid excision and Limberg flap. The mean follow-up was 18 months and all patients were satisfied with the procedure. There were lower complicati…

Zenker's Diverticulum in Forestier Disease: Chance or Causality?

2021

Zenker's diverticulum is an acquired sac-like outpouching of the mucosa and submucosa layers originating at the pharyngoesophageal junction. The predominant symptom of Zenker's diverticulum is dysphagia. Videofluoroscopy confirms the diagnosis. Forestier disease is a clinical entity characterized by ossification of anterolateral vertebral ligament and anterior osteophyte formation along the anterolateral spinal column. Its etiopathogenesis remains unknown and common symptoms are dysphagia, dysphonia and airway obstruction. The objective of this study is to identify a pathophysiological correlation between Forestier disease and the onset of Zenker's diverticulum.A retrospective observational…

Botulinum Toxin Is Effective in the Management of Neurogenic Dysphagia. Clinical-Electrophysiological Findings and Tips on Safety in Different Neurol…

2017

Background and Aims: Neurogenic dysphagia linked to failed relaxation of the upper esophageal sphincter (UES) can be treated by injecting botulinum toxin (BTX) into the cricopharyngeal (CP) muscle. We compared the effects of this treatment in different neurological disorders with dysphagia, to evaluate its efficacy over time including the response to a second injection. Materials and Methods: Sixty-seven patients with neurogenic dysphagia associated with incomplete or absent opening of the UES (24 with brainstem or hemispheric stroke, 21 with parkinsonian syndromes, 12 with multiple sclerosis, and 10 with spastic-dystonic syndromes secondary to post-traumatic encephalopathy) were treated wi…

A Review on Approaches for Condition Based Maintenance in Applications with Induction Machines located Offshore

2012

Published version of an article in the journal: Modeling, Identification and Control. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.4173/mic.2012.2.4 Open access This paper presents a review of different approaches for Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) of induction machines and drive trains in offshore applications. The paper contains an overview of common failure modes, monitoring techniques, approaches for diagnostics, and an overview of typical maintenance actions. Although many papers have been written in this area before, this paper puts an emphasis on recent developments and limits the scope to induction machines and drive trains applied in applications located offshore.
