Is MRI imaging in pediatric age totally safe? A critical reprisal.

2017

Current radiological literature is strongly focussed on radiation imaging risks. Indeed, given there is a small but actual augment in cancer risk from exposure to ionizing radiation in children, it is important to understand what the risk of alternative techniques could be. We retrospectively review literature data concerning possible MR imaging risks, focussing on the biological effects of MR, sedation and gadolinium compound risks when dealing with infant patients. The main concerns can be summarized in: (1) Biological effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic fields (EMF) employed—whose mechanisms of interaction with human tissues are polarization, induced current, and thermal heating, res…

Die emotionale Zufriedenheit von Patienten mit der anästhesiologischen Betreuung

2003

Objective The evaluation of services by patients is an integral part of continuous quality improvement in anaesthesia. Patient satisfaction is affected by various objective and subjective variables. Individual experiences, impressions and needs represent an important part of overall patient satisfaction. Methods Data of 519 patients were collected in a standardised anonymous questionnaire independent of the post-anaesthetic visit. Results Anaesthesia staff appeared to be friendly to 97 % of patients asked, 95 % of patients wanted to be treated by the same staff in case of another anaesthesia, nearly 87 % felt relaxed and satisfied after anaesthesia. Up to 26 % of patients felt tense after p…

Emotional status and fear in patients scheduled for elective surgery during COVID-19 pandemic: a nationwide cross-sectional survey (COVID-SURGERY)

2021

Abstract Background Fragmented data exist on the emotional and psychological distress generated by hospital admission during the pandemic in specific populations of patients, and no data exists on patients scheduled for surgery. The aim of this multicentre nationwide prospective cross-sectional survey was to evaluate the impact of pandemic on emotional status and fear of SARS-CoV-2 contagion in a cohort of elective surgical patients in Italy, scheduled for surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results Twenty-nine Italian centres were involved in the study, for a total of 2376 patients surveyed (mean age of 58 years ± 16.61; 49.6% males). The survey consisted of 28 total closed questions, in…

Basics of Image Interpretation in Interventional Neuroradiology

2011

The majority of patients with cerebral vascular diseases, demanding neuroradiological interventions are those, who present with potential life-threatening spontaneous intracranial/intracerebral haemorrhages due to cerebral aneurysms or/and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) or with cerebral infarction due to intra-arterial thrombi in cerebral arteries. Neuroradiological procedures (interventional neuroradiology) (IN), always, performed in general anaesthesia can be divided into occluding and opening interventions.

The impact of COVID-19 on access to dental care for people with disabilities:a global survey during the COVID-19 first wave lockdown

2021

Background It is unclear what immediate impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on delivery of oral healthcare to people with disabilities worldwide. Aim: To report the international impact of COVID-19 lockdown on oral healthcare provision for people with disabilities before, during and after the first lockdown (March to July 2020). Material and Methods Cross-sectional online self-administered survey of dentists who treat people with disabilities completed 10th to 31st of July 2020. Responses allowed comparison from before, during and immediately after the first wave lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were analysed using McNemar’s test to compare reported practice before to during lockdo…
