Haldane Model at finite temperature

We consider the Haldane model, a 2D topological insulator whose phase is defined by the Chern number. We study its phases as temperature varies by means of the Uhlmann number, a finite temperature generalization of the Chern number. Because of the relation between the Uhlmann number and the dynamical transverse conductivity of the system, we evaluate also the conductivity of the model. This analysis does not show any sign of a phase transition induced by the temperature, nonetheless it gives a better understanding of the fate of the topological phase with the increase of the temperature, and it provides another example of the usefulness of the Uhlmann number as a novel tool to study topolog…

This study compares the improvement and generalization of arm motor performance after physical or mental training in a motor task requiring a speed-accuracy tradeoff. During the pre- and post-training sessions, 40 subjects pointed with their right arm as accurately and as fast as possible toward targets placed in the frontal plane. Arm movements were performed in two different workspaces called right and left paths. A method for fitting multi-component decay curves

Abstract A generalization of a non-iterative method recently proposed by Mukoyama for the fitting of two-component decay curve is presented. Two modifications of the procedure are also suggested, by which the influence of the statistical fluctuations of the data may be reduced. Results of fairly good quality are obtained also for three- and, to a lesser extent, for four-component decay curves.
On stable geometries

Within the concept of projective lattice geometry we are considering the class of stable geometries which have also been introduced in [14]. The investigation of their basic properties will result in fundamental structure theorems which especially give a lattice-geometric characterization of free left modules of rank ≥6 over proper right Bezout rings of stable rank 2. This yields a proper generalization of previous results of ours.
Influence of Perceptual and Conceptual Information on Fear Generalization : A Behavioral and Event-Related Potential Study

Learned fear can be generalized through both perceptual and conceptual information. This study investigated how perceptual and conceptual similarities influence this generalization process. Twenty-three healthy volunteers completed a fear-generalization test as brain activity was recorded in the form of event-related potentials (ERPs). Participants were exposed to a de novo fear acquisition paradigm with four categories of conditioned stimuli (CS): two conceptual cues (animals and furniture); and two perceptual cues (blue and purple shapes). Progressive and habitual aspects in Central Mande

This paper examines the marking of progressive and habitual aspects in a cluster of closely related languages (Central Mande) and in a number of dialects in one of these languages (Manding) within the framework of grammaticalization theory. It is shown that the habitual forms go back to a generalization of the progressive aspect and that the progressive forms do derive from locative periphrastic constructions. Furthermore, evidence is provided for the fact that the evolution of progressives in Central Mande occurs in morphological cycles and that the various synchronic progressive constructions can be classified into different layers of grammaticalization. The effect of long context exposure on cued conditioning and c-fos expression in the rat forebrain

The c-fos expression was used to study the neural substrates of the cued fear conditioning acquisition, preceded by a short exposure versus a long exposure to the conditioning context. A long-context exposure (either during the night or during the day) prior to conditioning, was associated with low freezing in the learning test. Differences in the c-fos expression of CA1, CA3, BL Amygdala, LS and BNST were found between the short- or long-context groups with a pre-exposure before cued conditioning. The choice of hidden non-linearity in a feed-forward multi-layer perceptron (MLP) architecture is crucial to obtain good generalization capability and better performance. Nonetheless, little attention has been paid to this aspect in the ASR field. In this work, we present some initial, yet promising, studies toward improving ASR performance by adopting hidden activation functions that can be automatically learned from the data and change shape during training.
