Advancement genioplasty in Class I patients: predictability and stability of facial profile changes

This retrospective study evaluated the skeletal and soft tissue facial profile changes as well as the predictability and the short-term stability of the soft-tissue response to advancement genioplasty in Class I dental arch relationship patients. The study included 14 adult patients who presented a Class I dental arch but a Class II skeletal arch relationship and underwent advancement genioplasty exclusively. Lateral cephalograms taken immediately preoperatively (T1), immediately postoperatively (T2) and 1 year postoperatively (T3) were analysed. Phasic inspiratory genioglossus activity prevents pharyngeal airway collapse in healthy subjects during sleep and is diminished or absent in obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS), thus leading to pharyngeal obstruction. Case reports of OSAS after pontomedullary lesions indicate that impaired inspiratory genioglossal activity may result from brainstem lesions. Abstract The study presents the results of geobotanical investigations conducted in crop fields in the western Tian Shan Mts in Kyrgyzstan (Middle Asia). The main research focused on classification of weed communities developing within this poorly investigated area, were conducted in the vicinity of Bishkek and Kara-Balta in 2010. Altogether, 299 phytosociological relevés were sampled using the Braun-Blanquet method. Based on all segetal vegetation patches, the analyses distinguished a new association: Caucalido platycarpi-Vicietum michauxii. In this paper, we examine the evolution of a specific mathematical problem, i.e. the nine-point conic, a generalisation of the nine-point circle due to Steiner. We will follow this evolution from Steiner to the Neapolitan school (Trudi and Battaglini) and finally to the contribution of Beltrami that closed this journey, at least from a mathematical point of view (scholars of elementary geometry, in fact, will continue to resume the problem from the second half of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century).
