Introduction HPC3014 is a Phase 3, open-label study to assess if response to SMV+Peg-IFN/RBV at Week 2 can allow shortening of treatment to 12 weeks, irrespective of baseline and on-treatment factors. Method Treatment-naive chronic HCV G1-infected patients with no-to-moderate fibrosis (METAVIR F0–F2) were recruited. Characterizing hybrid zones and their dynamics is a central goal in evolutionary biology, but this is particularly challenging for morphologically cryptic species. The lack of conspicuous divergence between parental types means intermediate hybrid forms often go undetected. We aimed to detect and characterize a suspected hybrid zone between a pair of morphologically cryptic lineages of the freshwater snail, Radix. Occurrence of a sibling species complex within neotropical lymnaeids, snail intermediate hosts of fascioliasis.

The delimitation of cryptic species within the genus Lymnaea, which are the main vectors of fascioliasis, remains a topic of controversy. An analysis of genetic variability based on 12 enzyme loci revealed different fixed alleles at 9 loci between two sympatric samples of Lymnaea viatrix at the type locality in Lima, Peru. The absence of heterozygotes within this locality indicates the presence of isolated populations or cryptic species within L. viatrix. Mitochondrial DNA variation and the evolutionary history of cryptic Gammarus fossarum types.

The evolutionary history of the cryptic Gammarus fossarum species complex (Crustacea, Amphipoda) in Central Europe was approached by investigating the genetic variation in populations of a natural contact zone. Nucleotide sequence variation of a 395-bp segment of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene was compared to that of six nuclear allozyme loci. Three major mtDNA lineages were found, the eastern clade being consistent with the former allozyme type A. The two western clades (types B and C) were not distinguished previously. Cryopreservation of Digitalis obscura selected genotypes by encapsulation-dehydration

Shoot-tips from several genotypes of the cardenolide-producing perennial shrub Digitalis obscura L. were successfully cryopreserved using the encapsulation-dehydration technique. Precultivation on MS medium containing 0.5 M sucrose, followed by 2.5 h dehydration (final weight 30 %) induced shoot regrowth in 42 % of cryopreserved shoot-tips. Cold-hardening of the in vitro cultures before sucrose treatment dramatically increased shoot recovery up to 86 %. The optimized cryopreservation protocol was then employed using different shoot cultures from five D. obscura genotypes. Abstract Under a climate change perspective, the genetic make-up of local livestock breeds showing adaptive traits should be explored and preserved as a priority. We used genotype data from the ovine 50 k Illumina BeadChip for assessing breed autozygosity based on runs of homozygosity (ROH) and fine-scale genetic structure and for detecting genomic regions under selection in 63 Tunisian sheep samples. Multiple independent variants at the TERT locus are associated with telomere length and risks of breast and ovarian cancer

Journal article TERT-locus SNPs and leukocyte telomere measures are reportedly associated with risks of multiple cancers. Using the Illumina custom genotyping array iCOGs, we analyzed ~480 SNPs at the TERT locus in breast (n = 103,991), ovarian (n = 39,774) and BRCA1 mutation carrier (n = 11,705) cancer cases and controls. Leukocyte telomere measurements were also available for 53,724 participants. Most associations cluster into three independent peaks.
