Abstract Objective To determine the functional correlates of vertical gaze palsy and other ocular motor deficits in patients with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) using [ 18 F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG-)PET. Methods Twenty-six patients with PSP underwent clinical examination of vertical gaze combined with FDG-PET scans to assess regional cerebral glucose metabolism as a marker of neuronal activity. How many parkinsonian patients are suitable candidates for deep brain stimulation of subthalamic nucleus? Results of a questionnaire.

We used a CAPSIT-based questionnaire to estimate the percentage of parkinsonian patients suitable for subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) in a movement disorders clinic. We found that out of 641 consecutive PD patients only 1.6% fulfilled strict STN-DBS criteria. When we applied more flexible criteria, the percentage of eligibility increased to 4.5%. Most patients (60%) were ineligible because they did not satisfy multiple questionnaire items. Items related to disease severity were responsible for the largest number of exclusions. This knowledge will help make decisions on resource allocation in centres wishing to start DBS surgery.

The goal of this work was to study the relationship between presence of varicocele and testosterone serum levels in adulthood.A comparative, cross-sectional study of 387 men who consulted for erectile dysfunction. Age, body mass index (BMI), diabetes (DM), and presence of varicocele were related to testosterone levels through uni- and multi-variate analysis.A total of 248 cases (70.8%) had no varicocele, 46 (13.1%) had grade I varicocele, 36 (10.3%) grade II, and 20 (5.7%) grade III. In the edentulous lower jaw implant stabilised dentures have proved clinically so successful that the indication for this treatment is now being discussed more often with geriatric patients. The aim of this study of edentate subjects was to determine the age-relation of the demand for denture improvement, the risks and feasibility of implant treatment. The influence of the number of attempts on maximal HGS is not yet known and may differ depending on age and health status.
