Droit et gouvernance:l'apport du courant comportemental

2010

Under the dominant approach to corporate governance, the role of law is to help reduce the impact of conflicts of interest and intentional strategic behavior of the different actors, including managers. The managers' decisions that are detrimental to shareholders and other stakeholders do not all have their origin in an intentional behavior. Some of them result of misjudgment, cognitive and behavioral biases. Based on Behavioral Law and Economics, which has expanded greatly in the United States, the objective of the paper is to show that the role of law within the corporate governance system is also to contribute to "debias" managerial decisions or correct any adverse effects of these biase…

Big Data Applications for Disaster Management

2017

International audience; The term "disaster management" comprises both natural and man-made disasters. Highly pervaded with various types of sensors, our environment generates large amounts of data. Thus, big data applications in the field of disaster management should adopt a modular view, going from a component to nation scale. Current research trends mainly aim at integrating component, building, neighborhood and city levels, neglecting the region level for managing disasters. Current research on big data mainly address smart buildings and smart grids, notably in the following areas: energy waste management, prediction and planning of power generation needs (based on smart meter readings,…

Evaluation of potential biogas production in Sicily

2012

The aim of the present work is to predict the Sicilian potential biogas production, using the below unmarketable raw materials. The statistical data about OFMSW, the number of animals bred on medium and large farms and the amounts of by-products of food processing industries have been evaluated, in order to compute the potential biogas production and energy in the nine provinces of Sicily. In Sicily (Italy) 5.05 million inhabitants (2012), living in nine provinces, could produce 0.8 million tons of the Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (OFMSW) per year. At present only 0.07 million tons (3.17 % ca. of MSW) are actually treated (2010). This fraction would be one of the raw materials …

The Role of Financial and Managerial Variables on the Policy towards Home-grown Players in English Soccer

2012

The training and development of young players both as athletes and individuals is one of the task soccer governing bodies assign to professional soccer team in order to fully exploit the social aspects of sport activities. Recently UEFA imposed new rules to improve the use of home-grown players. We analyze a panel data of English Premier and Championship league clubs for the seasons 2001-02 to 2005-06 in order to understand what clubs characteristics lead to the employment of young players in the team during official matches. Sport commercialization and the employment of star players have been considered harmful to this role. Our findings suggest that, counter-intuitively, economic and comm…

Effect of caseinophosphopeptides added to fruit beverages upon ferritin synthesis in Caco-2 cells

2010

Ferritin synthesis was evaluated in iron sulphate solutions and in fruit beverages supplemented with iron, with/without zinc in the presence of caseinophosphopeptides (CPPs), based on a system combining simulated gastrointestinal digestion and the Caco-2 cell model. In iron sulphate solutions with/without zinc, the addition of CPPs had no effect upon ferritin synthesis. When CPPs were added to the bioaccessible fraction of fruit beverages supplemented with iron, ferritin synthesis increased in the same proportion as with the addition of milk. The addition of zinc to fruit beverages supplemented with iron and to iron sulphate solutions decreased ferritin synthesis. Nevertheless, in fruit bev…

Ferritin synthesis by Caco-2 cells as an indicator of iron bioavailability: Application to milk-based infant formulas

2007

The bioavailability of iron from milk-based infant formulas was estimated by an in vitro system including enzymatic digestion, iron uptake by Caco-2 cells and ferritin determination via an enzymoimmunoassay (ELISA). Positive correlations (p < 0.01) were found between the Fe(II) added to Caco-2 cells and ferritin synthesis and between the amount of dialyzed iron added to the cell culture and ferritin synthesis. The comparison of the bioavailability of iron from different milk-based formulas showed that adapted formulas having the same composition but differing in the iron salts added yielded similar ferritin levels. The same happened with follow-up formulas differing only in the presence or …

Liquid co-substrates repower sewage microbiomes

2018

AbstractA range of parameters are known to shape the methanogenic communities of biogas-producing digesters and to strongly influence the amount of biogas produced. In this work, liquid and solid fractions of grass biomass were used separately for semicontinuous batch methanation using sewage sludge as seed sludge. During 6 months of incubation, the amount of input COD was increased gradually, and the underlying methanogenic microbiome was assessed by means of microscopy-based automated cell counting and full-length 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing. In this sense, we prove for the first time the suitability of the ONT™MinION platform as a monitoring tool for anaerobic digestion systems. …
