Accessible stories within mediascapes. Voicing otherness in digital museums

2022

This article presents the first steps in the investigation of the potential for digital storytelling and digital museums to be used as instruments for access, as enablers of epistemic and poietic agency. Digital storytelling and migration museums are used as a case study to explore in what ways digital storytelling impacts meaning-making processes performed by migrants, allowing them to become active creators and disseminators of their own experiences. Through the combination of corpus linguistics, systemic functional linguistics, and lexical semantic analysis, an ad-hoc comparable corpus of migrant narratives in English and in Italian was cross-examined in order to scrutinise the conceptua…

Isolation of the CH3˙ rotor in a thermally stable inert matrix: first characterization of the gradual transition from classical to quantum behaviour …

2014

International audience; Matrix isolation is a method which plays a key role in isolating and characterizing highly reactive molecularradicals. However, the isolation matrices, usually composed of noble gases or small diamagnetic molecules, are stable only at very low temperatures, as they begin to desegregate even above a few tens of Kelvin. Here we report on the successful isolation of CH3 radicals in the cages of a nearly inert clathrate–SiO2matrix. This host is found to exhibit a comparable inertness with respect to that of most conventionalnoble gas matrices but it is characterized by a peculiar thermal stability. The latter property is related to thecovalent nature of the host material a…

A Comprehensive Analysis Regarding DESI Country Progress for Romania Relative to the European Average Trend

2017

Abstract In the absence of globally coherent specifications and standards, digitalization would never have spread across the world in such a huge extent as it did. The availability of digital technologies has significantly increased in the last decade, shifting the focus of policy-makers from on the diffusion of these technologies to their usage by governments, companies and also individuals. Actually, digital technologies and internet became the main forces for transforming the modern world and its economy. Activating within a turbulent environment, Romania faced many challenges in the last three years, but it managed to perform better from period to period. Relative to the past performanc…

Identification of sequences in the human peptide transporter subunit TAP1 required for transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) function

2001

The heterodimeric peptide transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) consisting of the subunits TAP1 and TAP2 mediates the transport of cytosolic peptides into the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). In order to accurately define domains required for peptide transporter function, a molecular approach based on the construction of a panel of human TAP1 mutants and their expression in TAP1(-/-) cells was employed. The characteristics and biological activity of the various TAP1 mutants were determined, and compared to that of wild-type TAP1 and TAP1(-/-) control cells. All mutant TAP1 proteins were localized in the ER and were capable of forming complexes with the TAP2 subunit. H…

Factors associated with first- versus second-generation long-acting antipsychotics prescribed under ordinary clinical practice in Italy

2018

Background For many years, long-acting intramuscular (LAI) antipsychotics have been prescribed predominantly to chronic and severe patients, as a last resort when other treatments failed. Recently, a broader and earlier use of LAIs, particularly second-generation LAIs, has been emphasized. To date, few studies attempted to frame how this change in prescribing took place in real-world practice. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the clinical features of patients prescribed with LAIs, and to explore possible prescribing differences between first- and second-generations LAIs under ordinary clinical practice in Italy. Methods The STAR Network "Depot" Study is an observational, longitudinal…

RAPD variation within and among natural populations of outcrossing willow-leaved foxglove (Digitalis obscura L.)

1999

Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used to assess levels and patterns of genetic diversity in Digitalis obscura L. (Scrophulariaceae), an outcrossing cardenolide-producing medicinal plant species. A total of 50 plants from six natural populations on the Iberian Peninsula were analysed by six arbitrarily chosen decamer primers resulting in 96 highly reproducible RAPD bands. To avoid bias in parameter estimation, analyses of population genetic structure were restricted to bands (35 of 96) whose observed frequencies were less than 1–3/n in each population. The analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) with distances among individuals corrected for the dominant nature of RAPDs (g…

Genotype-Phenotype Analysis across 130,422 Genetic Variants Identifies Rspo3 as the First Genome-Wide Significant Modifier Gene in Primary Sclerosing…

2016

Background Ulcerative colitis (UC), a complex polygenic disorder, is one of the main subphenotypes of inflammatory bowel disease. A comprehensive dissection of the genetic etiology of UC needs to assess the contribution of rare genetic variants including copy number variations (CNVs) to disease risk. In this study, we performed a multi-step genome-wide case-control analysis to interrogate the presence of disease-relevant rare copy number variants. Methods One thousand one hundred twenty-one German UC patients and 1770 healthy controls were initially screened for rare deletions and duplications employing SNP-array data. Quantitative PCR and high density custom array-CGH were used for validat…

Differential diagnosis problems in a patient with dysphonia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

2014

SUMMARY Dysphonia is frequently an expression of laryngitis, especially when it comes in the evolution of an immunosuppressed patient, as happens in chronic lymphoproliferation. But other causes of dysphonia should also not be forgotten, including the possibility of new malignancies, especially due to the fact that these patients have genomic instability that predisposes to appearance of a second or even a third cancer. We present the case of a patient who developed dysphonia during chronic lymphocytic leukemia evolution. Its etiology was a mediastinal compression through lymph nodes, not linked to leukemia, but produced by metastases of a bronchopulmonary cancer, appeared recently. Dysphon…

SHRIMP zircon U–Pb ages and REE partition for high-grade metamorphic rocks in the North Dabie complex: Insight into crustal evolution with respect to…

2012

Abstract We present SHRIMP U–Pb ages and REE data for zircon of two granulites, a garnet pyroxenite and a clinopyroxene amphibolite from the North Dabie complex. The North Dabie complex is a major fault-bounded petrotectonic unit in the Dabie continental collisional orogen between the South and North China Blocks. Zircon REE data are applied to link ages to specific petrological processes. In addition to SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating, measurements were made on monazites from a HP–UHT metapsammitic granulite. Metamorphic zircon grains and coeval overgrowths on detrital cores from one granulite yielded a weighted mean 207Pb/206Pb age of 2042 ± 7 Ma, corresponding to peak HP/UHT metamorphism. The …
