2019
The church of the Jesuit Order in the ancient city of Noto was destroyed, as the rest of the city, by the earthquake that stroke the Oriental part of Sicily in 1693. Thanks to recent researches conducted into the EFIAN Project (Experimental Fruition Ingenious Ancient Noto) it is possible to retrace the complex history of the building, realizing a 3D model of a hypothetical configuration of the complete church as well. The comparison between surveys and archival documents (especially plans preserved at the BnF) revealed also that the church was uncomplete at the date of the earthquake. Moreover, the layout of the ruins doesn’t match with the known drawings of the first half of the XVII centu…
Skoulekia meningialis n. gen., n. sp. (Digenea: Aporocotylidae Odhner, 1912) a parasite surrounding the brain of the Mediterranean common two-banded …
2010
This study describes a new aporocotylid genus and species, Skoulekia meningialis n. gen., n. sp. which was detected in the ectomeningeal veins surrounding the optic lobes of the brain of the common two-banded seabream Diplodus vulgaris (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1817) from the Gulf of Valencia (Mediterranean Sea). A detailed morphological description of S. meningialis is provided, including drawings, measurements and scanning electron microscopy images as well as a phylogenetic study of S. meningialis and closely related taxa using DNA sequence data obtained from whole ITS2 and partial 18S and 28S rDNA regions. Morphology as well as molecular phylogeny strongly support the erection of a new g…
Digitizing maps procedure for scientific forestry administration by GIS database. Case study: Rasinari forestry administration
2019
This study aims to detail the computerization and digitization process of forest management of Rasinari forest district, Sibiu county. The study focuses on the transition from the printed design of management plans, which includes forest management plans and forest maps, in digital format. The digital model of management plans was originally tested on a single management plan and then extended to all management plans and is now implemented in a GIS database that can be viewed online as well.
Android lietotne - Draudzīgie maksājumi
2018

Change in geometry of a high Arctic glacier to 1948 to 2013 (Austre Lovénbreen, Svalbard)
2017
International audience; The change of Austre Lovénbreen, a 4.5 km2 land-based glacier along the west coast of Spitsbergen, is investigated using geodetic methods and mass balance measurements over 1948–2013. For 2008−2013, annual mass balances computed on 36-stake measurements were obtained, in addition to annual mass balances reconstructed from the neighbouring glaciers, Midtre Lovénbreen (1968−2007) and Austre Brøggerbreen (1963−1967). The mean rate of glacier retreat for 1948–2013 is −16.7 ± 0.3 m a−1. Fluctuations in area (1948–2013 mean, −0.027 ± 0.002 km2 a−1) showed a slowing as the glacier recedes within its valley from 1990 to 1995. For 1962–2013, the average volume loss calculated…
Use of geomorphological units to improve drainage network extraction from a DEM
1999
Abstract Drainage networks are one of the main elements characterizing basins, and network topology and geometry form the basis of many hydrological and geomorphological models ( eg Geomorphological Unitary Hydrograph). The identification and manual delineation of channel networks from maps or aerial photographs requires much time and effort. In the last two decades, algorithms and procedures for automated extraction of drainage networks from digital elevation data have been developed and implemented in many specialized software applications. Nevertheless, automatically delineated channel networks do not always show close agreement with manually delineated networks. This paper describes a c…
Equal Pay for a Green Future
2020
In the present chapter, challenges to our growth-driven political-economic model are identified—including lethal economic inequality, growing unrest, technological unemployment in an era of robotization and artificial intelligence (AI), and limits to growth at a time of environmental and climatic collapse. The author is hesitant to offer a “yes” or “no” answer to the question of equal pay, suggesting instead that the answer hinges on time and context. In a future world of limited material resources, where jobs are increasingly automated and substituted by AI algorithms, the legitimacy of inequality-producing incentives for the main exploiters of resources and robots will erode. At a time wh…
