Why we will accept your paper in Biological Conservation?
2018
As the Editor in Chief of Biological Conservation, one of the leading journals of the field, I will outline the major directions of the journal and provide future authors with a tool box to help them with their submission. What is the scope of the journal? Is biological conservation the right target for my paper? What are the key messages to keep in mind when preparing my manuscript for this journal? Is their any specific type of findings that should be promoted or avoided to maximize the probability of having my paper accepted? I thought about these questions both as an author and as an editor and I want to share and discuss this experience of the publication process in conservation. peerR…

Pedagogical criteria for successful use of wikis as collaborative writing tools in teacher education
2012
Published version of an article from the journal: International Proceedings of Economics Development and Research. Also available from the publisher: http://www.ipedr.com/vol27/3-IC4E%202012-F00002.pdf Wiki is a Web 2.0 technology that potentially promotes collaborative writing, group discussion and interaction. However, little research has been done as to which criteria are suitable to address pedagogical issues that are pertinent to collaborative writing with wikis. This paper proposes a set of pedagogical criteria to explore wiki-based collaborative writing. The criteria are then used to evaluate students’ perceptions of collaborative writing using MediaWiki. The paper also reports on pe…
Comparative Cytogenetics Allows the Reconstruction of Human Chromosome History: The Case of Human Chromosome 13
2019
Comparative cytogenetics permits the identification of human chromosomal homologies and rearrangements between species, allowing the reconstruction of the history of each human chromosome. The aim of this work is to review evolutionary aspects regarding human chromosome 13. Classic and molecular cytogenetics using comparative banding, chromosome painting, and bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) mapping can help us formulate hypotheses about chromosome ancestral forms; more recently, sequence data have been integrated as well. Although it has been previously shown to be conserved when compared to the ancestral primate chromosome, it shows a degree of rearrangements in some primate taxa; fu…

Introduction
2020
Starting from Goethe. Currently, there exists no discipline whose specific boundaries could be defined as MORPHOLOGY. Nevertheless, it is possible to trace out its history in ample terms and to define its scope broadly by understanding it as the place where the semantics of FORMS are defined and where they are connected to a reference IMAGE. The central link in the field of MORPHOLOGY is FORM-IMAGE, and it refers to those dynamics of the FORM and to the DYNAMIC SYSTEMS that have taken hold in late modernity and that continue to grow today.

First narrow-band search for continuous gravitational waves from known pulsars in advanced detector data
2017
Spinning neutron stars asymmetric with respect to their rotation axis are potential sources of continuous gravitational waves for ground-based interferometric detectors. In the case of known pulsars a fully coherent search, based on matched filtering, which uses the position and rotational parameters obtained from electromagnetic observations, can be carried out. Matched filtering maximizes the signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio, but a large sensitivity loss is expected in case of even a very small mismatch between the assumed and the true signal parameters. For this reason, {\it narrow-band} analyses methods have been developed, allowing a fully coherent search for gravitational waves from known …
