Epoxidation of stilbene using supported gold nanoparticles: cumyl peroxyl radical activation at the gold nanoparticle surface.
2014
The catalytic epoxidation of cis-stilbene using cumene as a solvent in the presence of supported gold nanoparticles (AuNP) yields a mixture of cis and trans-stilbene oxides. EPR and product distribution studies support a new mechanistic proposal where oxygen centred radicals activate the AuNP surface and form active surface oxygen species responsible for the epoxidation products.
Insights into the Mechanism of Cumene Peroxidation Using Supported Gold and Silver Nanoparticles
2013
Due to the considerable industrial implications, an in-depth study of cumene peroxidation using supported gold and silver nanoparticles was carried out to gain more insight into the mechanism of this reaction. Supported gold nanoparticles were found to efficiently catalyze the decomposition of cumene hydroperoxide with a selectivity of 25% at 80 °C when using gold supported on hydrotalcite (AuNP@HT), and 2-phenyl-2-propanol (i.e., cumyl alcohol) was the main product. Further, silver nanoparticles supported on hydrotalcite (AgNP@HT) converted cumene to cumene hydroperoxide at 80 °C with 80% selectivity. Both benchtop and oxygen-uptake experiments were used to probe the reaction mechanism and…
Calmodulin binds to p21(Cip1) and is involved in the regulation of its nuclear localization.
1999
p21(Cip1), first described as an inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinases, has recently been shown to have a function in the formation of cyclin D-Cdk4 complexes and in their nuclear translocation. The dual behavior of p21(Cip1) may be due to its association with other proteins. Different evidence presented here indicate an in vitro and in vivo interaction of p21(Cip1) with calmodulin: 1) purified p21(Cip1) is able to bind to calmodulin-Sepharose in a Ca(2+)-dependent manner, and this binding is inhibited by the calmodulin-binding domain of calmodulin-dependent kinase II; 2) both molecules coimmunoprecipitate when extracted from cellular lysates; and 3) colocalization of calmodulin and p21(Cip…
Gold(I)-Catalyzed Intermolecular Cycloaddition of Allenamides with α,β-Unsaturated Hydrazones: Efficient Access to Highly Substituted Cyclobutanes
2014
α,β-Unsaturated N,N-dialkyl hydrazones undergo a mild [2 + 2] cycloaddition to allenamides when treated with a suitable gold catalyst. The method, which represents the first application of N,N-dialkyl hydrazones in gold catalysis, is compatible with a wide variety of substituents at the alkenyl moiety of the hydrazone component, proceeds with excellent levels of regio- and diastereoselectivity, and provides densely substituted cyclobutanes with good to excellent yields.
Enhanced plasmonic processes in amino-rich plasma polymer films for applications at the biointerface
2021
A new plasmonic biosensor was developed in a planar chip-based format by coupling the plasmonic properties of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) with the mechanical and bioadhesive features of unconventional organic thin films deposited from plasma, namely primary amine-based plasma polymer films (PPFs). A self-assembled layer of spherical Au NPs, 12 nm in diameter, was electrostatically immobilized onto optically transparent silanised glass. In the next step, the Au NP layer was coated with an 18 nm polymeric thick PPF layerviathe simultaneous polymerization/deposition of a cyclopropylamine (CPA) precursor performed by radio frequency discharge, both in pulsed and in continuous wave modes. The CP…
Administration of a Synbiotic to Free-Living Elderly and Evaluation of Serum Cytokines. A Pilot Study
2010
Ten free-living elderly were administered with a synbiotic [fermented milk containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus Gorbach and Goldin (LGG)] and oligofructose as a prebiotic for one month. Serum cytokines were evaluated before (T(0)) and after (T(1)) synbiotic administration. At T(0), values of Interleukin (IL)-12, IL-6, IL-10, IL-1beta and Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF)-alpha were lower than normal controls, with the exception of IL-8, thus confirming previous results on the impairment of both innate and adaptive responses in elderly. At T(1), the synbiotic was able to significantly increase, depressed values of IL-1, IL-6 and IL-8 with a trend to a modest increase for the restant cytokines. In co…
Segmentation Integrating Watershed and Shape Priors Applied to Cardiac Delayed Enhancement MR Images
2017
International audience; Background: In recent years, there has been a rapid rise in the use of shape priors applied to segmentation process of medical images. Previous approaches on left ventricle segmentation from Delayed-Enhancement Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DE-MRI) have focused on the extraction of myocardium or just diseased region in short axis orientation. However these studies did not take into account the segmentation of non-diseased myocardium from DE-MRI. The segmentation of non-diseased myocardium from DE-MRI, has some useful applications. For instance it can simplify the PET-MR registration process. Methods: This paper presents a novel semi-automatic segmentation method of non-…
Selective trapping of oligos to triangular gold nanoparticles utilizing dielectrophoresis
2014
Triangular shaped particles are an interesting research topic since there are three plasmonically active tips, which can be utilized in new molecular sensing application systems. In this research we used dielectrophoretic force to trap thiol-modified (5’- end) and Cy3-dye-labeled (3’-end) single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) oligonucleotides, size 40 nt (about 22 nm long), to the corners of the gold triangles. These gold triangles were 20 nm thick and side length was 1 μm. The trapping experiment was done under AC-circuit and the gathering of the oligos to the triangles was studied in situ under confocal microscope. The theoretical values for dielectrophoretic force with different voltages were simu…
