An experimental study of the reproductive success of Echinostoma friedi (Trematoda: Echinostomatidae) in the golden hamster
2003
Viable eggs produced weekly per infective stage was used as a measure of the reproductive success of Echinostoma friedi during the first 12 weeks of infection in hamsters. The weekly reproductive success was not constant during the experiment in relation to the egg output and the proportion of viable eggs produced. The egg release started during week 2 post-inoculation, attaining a maximum during week 3. A decline in egg output was observed from week 9. Viable eggs were only produced from week 3 post-inoculation and a maximum was attained at week 4 of the experiment. A decline in egg viability was observed from week 9. Considering together the egg output and the egg viability, the maximum w…
Neuropeptide Y (NPY)-like immunoreactivity in peripheral and central nerve fibres of the golden hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) with special respect t…
1986
Inforimation on the ambient lighting conditions is conveyed from the retina to the pineal organ by a neuronal pathway involving the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) which acts as a circadian pacemaker. In the hamster, circadian rhythms have been shown to be influenced by injection of neuropeptide Y (NPY) into the SCN. Since NPY-immunoreactive nerve fibres are present in the rat and guinea-pig pineal glands it appeared of interest to investigate the hamster pineal as part of the circadian rhythm generating/regulating system. For comparison kidney, small intestine and cerebral cortex were studied. Like in the other rodent species so far investigated only a few of the abundant sympathetic nerve f…
Electrophysiological characterization of the pineal gland of golden hamsters.
1987
In one of the most-widely used species in pineal gland research, the strongly photoperiodic golden hamster, Mesocricetus auratus, no electrophysiological data on pinealocytes are currently available. To fill this gap, in the present study 185 spontaneously active pinealocytes from male golden hamsters were recorded extracellularly, both during day- and night-time (light: dark cycle 12 ∶ 12, lights on at 07.00 h). As in other species, pinealocytes exhibited action potentials of 1–2 ms duration. An irregular firing pattern was observed in 95% of the pinealocytes, the remainder fired more regularly or showed a phasic discharge pattern. The firing frequencies ranged from 0.2 to 25 Hz and showed…
Spatial structure of helminth communities in the golden grey mullet, Liza aurata (Actinopterygii: Mugilidae), from the Western Mediterranean.
2012
Ecological investigations regarding the parasite fauna of grey mullets are scarce. The present study provides a detailed description of the helminth communities of Liza aurata in the Spanish western Mediterranean and analyzes the role of spatial, temporal, and host variables in shaping the infracommunities. In total, 204 fish were collected in 2 localities, situated ca. 290 km apart, in spring and fall of 2004 and 2005. A non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) was used to visualize an ordination of the infracommunities according to their relative similarities in parasite abundances. The relationship between infracommunity composition and explanatory variables (host size, locality, year,…

Measurement of photon?jet transverse momentum correlations in 5.02 TeV Pb + Pb and pp collisions with ATLAS
2019
Jets created in association with a photon can be used as a calibrated probe to study energy loss in the medium created in nuclear collisions. Measurements of the transverse momentum balance between isolated photons and inclusive jets are presented using integrated luminosities of 0.49 nb−1 of Pb + Pb collision data at TeV and 25 pb−1 of pp collision data at TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Photons with transverse momentum GeV and are paired with all jets in the event that have GeV and pseudorapidity . The transverse momentum balance given by the jet-to-photon ratio, , is measured for pairs with azimuthal opening angle . Distributions of the per-photon jet yield as a function…
CONSTRUCTION OF METASTABLE STATES IN QUANTUM ELECTRODYNAMICS
2004
In this paper, we construct metastable states of atoms interacting with the quantized radiation field. These states emerge from the excited bound states of the non-interacting system. We prove that these states obey an exponential time-decay law. In detail, we show that their decay is given by an exponential function in time, predicted by Fermi's Golden Rule, plus a small remainder term. The latter is proportional to the (4+β)th power of the coupling constant and decays algebraically in time. As a result, though it is small, it dominates the decay for large times. A central point of the paper is that our remainder term is significantly smaller than the one previously obtained in [1] and as…
Appearance of Fermion-Condensation Quantum Phase Transition in Fermi Systems
2014
As high-\(T_c\) superconductors are represented primarily by 2D layered structures, in Sect. 5.1 we discuss the superconducting state of a 2D liquid of heavy electrons, and within the framework of Gor’kov microscopic equations construct the Green functions of the FC state. On the other hand, our study can easily be generalized to the 3D case. To show that there is no fundamental difference between the 2D and 3D cases, we derive Green’s functions for the 3D case in Sect. 5.1.1. In Sect. 5.2, we consider the dispersion law and lineshape of single-particle excitations. Section 5.3 is devoted to the behavior of heavy-electron liquid with FC in magnetic field. In Sect. 5.4, we analyze conditions…
Dynamically screened vertex correction to $GW$
2020
Diagrammatic perturbation theory is a powerful tool for the investigation of interacting many-body systems, the self-energy operator $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}$ encoding all the variety of scattering processes. In the simplest scenario of correlated electrons described by the $GW$ approximation for the electron self-energy, a particle transfers a part of its energy to neutral excitations. Higher-order (in screened Coulomb interaction $W$) self-energy diagrams lead to improved electron spectral functions (SFs) by taking more complicated scattering channels into account and by adding corrections to lower order self-energy terms. However, they also may lead to unphysical negative spectral f…
Words with the Maximum Number of Abelian Squares
2015
An abelian square is the concatenation of two words that are anagrams of one another. A word of length n can contain \(\varTheta (n^2)\) distinct factors that are abelian squares. We study infinite words such that the number of abelian square factors of length n grows quadratically with n.
