Magnetic field effect on the corrosion processes at the Eurofer–Pb–17Li flow interface

Abstract Structural and elemental analyses of the RAFM steel (EUROFER 97) interface with flowing Pb–17Li eutectic (velocity 5 cm/s at 550 °C, 1000 h) under the action of a strong magnetic field (B = 1.7 T) were performed using optical microscopy, SEM, confocal microscopy, precision micro-hardness methods, SIMS and point or line-scan EDX analyses. The results show that the magnetic field induces a faster crushing of martensite into the grains, a deeper dissolution of grain boundaries, an enhancement of the Fe and Cr mass transfer and a fast detachment of corrosion layers due to MHD effects.

Effective diffusion coefficient and diffusion-controlled reactions in insulating solids with defects

Abstract The expressions for effective diffusion coefficient are obtained in the mean field approximation for two-phase system for spatial dimensions of 1, 2 and 3. The existence of potential barrier for diffusion on the phase boundary was taken into account via the boundary conditions. Obtained formulae could be applied in the theory of diffusion-controlled reactions and for interpreting the experimental data on defect diffusion in two-phase media.

Radiation-induced electronic and ionic charge storage and release in sapphire

Radiation-induced thermally stimulated relaxation (TSR) processes in the reduced α-Al 2 O 3 (sapphire) crystal were investigated at 290-650 K by means of the TS current (TSC), ionic depolarisation current (TSDC) and electron emission (TSEE) techniques. After thermal (ionic) polarisation of sapphire wide (∼75 K) and asymmetric ionic dipolar TSDC peak at T max 590 K (disorientation of the anion vacancy-related dipoles) was detected. This peak correlates with the wide TSEE peak at T max 615 K, the radiation-induced electrical degradation (RIED) yield rise above 550 K (T max 745 K) and the chromium emission line broadening ip ruby. Early sowing can boost grain production by reducing weed infestation in organic no‐till wheat

Conservative tillage techniques have several agro-ecological benefits for organic farming. The application of these techniques, however, can create quite a few challenges due to the increased weed competition. Here, we report the results of an organic field experiment in which the responses of wheat and weeds to no tillage (NT) were evaluated compared with conventional tillage (CT). Evaluation of matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) extraction for multi-mycotoxin determination in different flours using LC-MS/MS

An existing matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) method for aflatoxins (AFs) and ochratoxin A (OTA) extraction was extended by further 14 mycotoxins. After it careful optimization, this method was applied to determine the occurrence of these mycotoxins on commercial flour samples (with different cereals composition) collected from local markets. In a total of 49 samples investigated, 9 mycotoxins were identified. Nivalenol (NIV) and Beauvericin (BEA) were the mycotoxins found most frequently. The samples that presented major contamination were wheat flours and bakery preparations. Mycotoxins are fungal secondary metabolites identified in many agricultural products screened for toxigenic moulds. They have been reported to be carcinogenic, teratogenic, tremorogenic, haemorrhagic and dermatitic to a wide range of organisms. The capacity of bee pollen as a substrate for production of ochratoxin A (OTA) by a strain of Aspergillus ochraceus was studied. For control purposes corn, wheat and rice grains, and eleven liquid media were assayed. They were Yeast Extract Sucrose broth (YES), YES supplemented with 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1 and 5% bee pollen, YES supplemented with 0.5% peptone, 50% must, Wickerham medium, Aflatoxin Production medium and Coconut Broth Medium. Rapid determination of ochratoxin A in cereals and cereal products by liquid chromatography.

A new method based on extraction with octylsilica (C8) followed by liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescence detection (LC-FLD) was studied to determine ochratoxin A (OTA) from cereals and cereal products. Optimization of different parameters, such as type and amount of solid phase, type and volume of eluent and amount of sample were carried out. Recovery of OTA from rice samples spiked at 10 ng/g level was of 86% with relative standard deviation of 5%. The limits of detection and quantification of the proposed method were 0.25 and 0.75 ng/g, respectively. Changes in ochratoxin A and type B trichothecenes contained in wheat flour during dough fermentation and bread baking processes

Ochratoxin A (OTA) and type B trichothecenes are mycotoxins that occur frequently in cereals and thus can be found in cereal by-products such as bread. The aim of this work was to study the variation of the levels of OTA, deoxynivalenol (DON), 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol (3-ADON) and nivalenol (NIV) during the bread-making process. This was done by using wheat flour spiked with different levels of toxins. Spain is a relevant producer of oats (Avena sativa), but to date there has been no study on the occurrence/co-occurrence of mycotoxins in oats marketed in Spain. The present study is addressed to overcome this lack of knowledge.
