Voltage- and Agonist-Induced Activation of Smooth Muscle of the Human Upper Urinary Tract: Different Mechanisms
1985
Smooth muscles are such a remarkably diverse group of tissues that the difference in properties between any two of them may be as great as between a smooth muscle and a striated muscle. With this diversity it is not surprising that the ways in which different stimuli initiate contraction are also extremely varied and interesting although we still know very little about the details of the mechanisms involved. In an attempt to shed some light on the cellular contraction cycle of smooth muscle of the human upper urinary tract, this article will focus on two topics: 1. Previous findings in smooth muscle research will be summarized and discussed briefly as they are pertinent to an understanding …
Evidence for the presence of P2y and P2x receptors with different functions in mouse stomach.
2005
To clarify the function of P2 receptor subtypes in mouse stomach, the motor responses to ATP, alpha,beta-methyleneATP (alpha,beta-MeATP), P2X receptor agonist, 2-methylthioATP (2-MeSATP), P2Y receptor agonist, and the effects of the desensitisation of P2X receptors with alpha,beta-MeATP and of P2Y receptors with ADPbetaS were analysed recording the endoluminal pressure from whole-organ. ATP-induced relaxation was antagonised by suramin, non-selective P2 receptor antagonist, by desensitisation of P2Y receptors with ADPbetaS, and increased by desensitisation of P2X receptors with alpha,beta-MeATP. alpha,beta-MeATP produced biphasic responses: relaxation, reduced by P2X- or P2Y desensitisation…
Construction of Fibred Categories
2019
In Section 5, we introduce methods from classical homological algebra (i.e. using mostly the language of derived categories of abelian categories and their Verdier quotients) to construct the main examples of premotivic categories of interest in this book, while, in Section 6, we study how to check that the localization axiom holds in practice. Section 7 is devoted to the process of obtaining new fibred categories from old ones, by considering homotopy theoretic modules over a ring object.
The submerged syntax between Late Antiquity and the Modern Age. Sources, models, and interpretative strategies
2021
The present volume contains selected papers from the international conference on “The submerged syntax between Late Antiquity and the Modern Age. Sources, models, and interpretative strategies”, that took place in Palermo, 28-29 November 2019, hosted by the Department of Humanities at the University of Palermo. The conference was organized under the umbrella of a project of national relevance funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, named “Parts of speech meet rhetorics: searching for syntax in the continuity between the Middle Ages and the Modern Age” (PRIN 20172F2FEZ, March 2017).
Manufacturers and retailers: A relational analysis
2012
Nowadays, relational models between manufacturers and retailers do not fully reflect the domain of the main relational constructs. This research proposes a model that reflects both affective and attitudinal retailer behaviors from the study of the nomological network between relational value with satisfaction, trust and commitment. The empirical research is based on the study of a Spanish furniture manufacturer with its retailer customers during one furniture fair. Findings suggest that relational value is an antecedent of affective and attitudinal behaviors. Satisfaction with current transactions also appears to be the main determinant of trust and commitment.
Value, satisfaction and loyalty in volunteerism. Application to a religious megaevent
2013
This paper presents a study of the volunteer as an essential agent in the success of any event, and offers recommendations for improving management of megaevents. To achieve this goal we propose a structural model that analyses the multidimensionality of the value concept as antecedent of perceived value, satisfaction and loyalty. The study sample consists of volunteers who participated in the World Youth Day held in Madrid in 2011, obtaining a total number of 1427 cases. The results support all the hypotheses presented in the proposed model. Thus, it confirms that the multidimensionality of the value (spirituality, social value, play and efficiency) is an antecedent of perceived value whil…
Changes in Adrenoceptors and G-Protein-Coupled Receptor Kinase 2 in <smlcap>L</smlcap>-NAME-Induced Hypertension Compared to Spontaneous …
2014
This work compares the expression of adrenoceptors (ARs) and G-protein-coupled receptor kinase (GRK) 2 (RT-PCR and immunoblotting) and functional responses in conductance (aorta) and resistance vessels (mesenteric resistance arteries; MRA) in two different models of rat hypertension: hypertension induced by chronic treatment with <smlcap>L</smlcap>-NAME (NG-nitro-<smlcap>L</smlcap>-arginine methyl-ester) (<smlcap>L</smlcap>-NAME-treated rats; LNHR), and genetically induced hypertension (spontaneously hypertensive rats; SHR). Changes found in the aorta, but not in the MRA, were: (1) a loss of contractile capacity, more evidently in α…
Computer‐based and Face‐to‐face Collaborative Argumentation in Secondary Schools in England and Finland
2005
Abstract This article focuses on the analysis of secondary school students’ argumentative interactions in England and Finland, within specific face‐to‐face and computer‐based environments. We propose that a combination of learning environments, in conjunction with teacher input and support, is important for developing argumentation skills in the classroom. Face‐to‐face argumentation, in particular, offers ample opportunity for concentrating on the quality (through deeper exploration) of arguments; such learning can enhance the construction of well‐structured arguments often associated with some computer‐based environments, such as synchronous computer chat.
