Dissecting and Reassembling Color Correction Algorithms for Image Stitching
2018
This paper introduces a new compositional framework for classifying color correction methods according to their two main computational units. The framework was used to dissect fifteen among the best color correction algorithms and the computational units so derived, with the addition of four new units specifically designed for this work, were then reassembled in a combinatorial way to originate about one hundred distinct color correction methods, most of which never considered before. The above color correction methods were tested on three different existing datasets, including both real and artificial color transformations, plus a novel dataset of real image pairs categorized according to …

Efficiency-vs-radial-vertex-position without re-tracking The efficiency for reconstructing a displaced vertex passing all cuts, as a function of radial distance from the z-axis to the vertex positon. The retrack and noretrack suffixes refer to whether or not the procedure known as re-tracking, where the tracking algorithm is re-run with looser cuts, on the leftover hits from standard tracking, was used to select the tracks that were input to the vertexing algorithm.

Horizontal visibility graphs: exact results for random time series
2009
The visibility algorithm has been recently introduced as a mapping between time series and complex networks. This procedure allows us to apply methods of complex network theory for characterizing time series. In this work we present the horizontal visibility algorithm, a geometrically simpler and analytically solvable version of our former algorithm, focusing on the mapping of random series (series of independent identically distributed random variables). After presenting some properties of the algorithm, we present exact results on the topological properties of graphs associated with random series, namely, the degree distribution, the clustering coefficient, and the mean path length. We sh…
Measuring socio-demographic differences in volunteers with a value-based index: illustration in a mega event
2013
The phenomenon of volunteering can be analysed as a consumer experience through the concept of value as a trade-off between benefits and costs. In event volunteering, both the expected value (pre-experienced) and the perceived value (post-experienced) of volunteering can be assessed. With this purpose, an online quantitative survey is conducted with a sample of 711 volunteers in a religious mega event, with questions related to five dimensions of their experience: efficiency, social value, play, spirituality and time spent. These five scales, properly tested are used for building a multidimensional index of both the expected and perceived value of the volunteer experience. ANOVAs test show …
Experiment of Indoor Thermal Optimization of an Old Historic Building of Cluny through Digital Mock-up Simulation
2013
International audience; Improving energy efficiency is the first and most important step toward achieving sustainability in buildings. Buildings designed with sustainable solutions are usually energy-efficient because sustainable design is aimed at producing green buildings. In the case of historic buildings, however, this is quite challenging. Integrated building energy simulation programs have been used in various ways by building professionals to respond to these challenges and to improve building design with respect to sustainability. This poster presents a new approach toward optimizing thermal indoor energy using a digital mock-up simulation of a historical building to explore its pot…
SHREC 2020: Retrieval of digital surfaces with similar geometric reliefs
2020
Abstract This paper presents the methods that have participated in the SHREC’20 contest on retrieval of surface patches with similar geometric reliefs and the analysis of their performance over the benchmark created for this challenge. The goal of the context is to verify the possibility of retrieving 3D models only based on the reliefs that are present on their surface and to compare methods that are suitable for this task. This problem is related to many real world applications, such as the classification of cultural heritage goods or the analysis of different materials. To address this challenge, it is necessary to characterize the local ”geometric pattern” information, possibly forgetti…
Meter for the Quantitative Analysis of Newspaper Sport Material
2016
This article presents a meter for the quantitative analysis of newspaper sport material. The meter makes it possible to measure and classify newspaper sport material in detail. The meter has three levels. The selected level depends on the research purpose and desired measurement accuracy. Measurement can focus on a certain level, or all levels can be used together. Individual variables can also be utilized at a certain level. The three levels with respective level units of observation are: 1) articles, photos, and graphics; 2) sets of articles; and 3) sets of data materials. The use of each level is presented in the article. The article also contains a summary of the newspaper sport materia…
Learning high-level manipulative tasks through imitation
2006
This paper presents ConSCIS, Conceptual Space based Cognitive Imitation System, which tightly links low-level data processing with knowledge representation in the context of robot imitation. Our focus is on the program-level imitation: we are interested in the final effects of actions on objects, and not on the particular kinematic or dynamic properties of the motion. The same architecture is used both to analyze and represent the task to be imitated, and to perform the imitation by generalizing in novel and different circumstances. The implemented experimental scenario is a two dimensional world populated with various objects in which observation/imitation takes place. To validate our appr…
