Revisiting the cysteine-rich proteins encoded in the 3’-proximal open reading frame of the positive-sense single-stranded RNA of some monopartite fil…

2020

A reexamination of proteins with conserved cysteines and basic amino acids encoded by the 3 '-proximal gene of the positive-sense single-stranded RNA of some monopartite filamentous plant viruses has been carried out. The cysteines are involved in a putative Zn-finger domain, which, together with the basic amino acids, form part of the nuclear or nucleolar localization signals. An in-depth study of one of these proteins, p15 from grapevine B virus (GVB), has shown: (i) a three-dimensional structure with four alpha-helices predicted by two independent in silico approaches, (ii) the nucleolus as the main accumulation site by applying confocal laser microscopy to a fusion between p15 and the g…

Investigating the Performance of Enhanced Permeable Groins in Series

2020

The enhanced permeable groin is a novel eco-friendly and cost-effective technique for bank protection and restoration of meander bends. The behavior of bed deformations due to the distance between the structures has to be studied to design enhanced permeable groins in series properly. In this study, scour morphologies around enhanced permeable groins in series, characterized by four different distances and located in a 180&deg

Inguinal Hernia: Defect Obliteration with the 3D Dynamic Regenerative Scaffold Proflor™.

2021

Prosthetic inguinal hernia repair presents significant challenges. Some of these, such as mesh fixation and quality of the biologic response, are still debated among surgeons. For example, there is no strong consensus regarding a specific condition that characterizes the surgical procedure during herniorrhaphy. This issue concerns management of the hernia defect, which in conventional hernia repair with flat meshes remains patent. However, a critical analysis of typical postoperative complications after inguinal hernia repair reveals that some of these adverse events are related to patency of the hernial opening. Postoperative discomfort, pain with specific movements and even hernia recurre…

Osteoporotic Pelvic Fractures

2018

Background The estimated incidence of osteoporotic pelvic fractures among persons over age 60 in Germany is 224 per 100 000 persons per year, and rising. A number of surgical treatment options are available, but clinical long-term data are lacking. Methods This review is based on pertinent publications and guidelines retrieved by a selective literature search, and on the authors' clinical experience. Results Patients often report one or more relatively trivial traumatic incidents leading up to the fracture. They complain of pain in the hip, groin, or lower lumbar region, or of low back pain and sciatica. A new classification scheme entitled Fragility Fractures of the Pelvis (FFP) takes the …

Inguinal hernia: The destiny of the inferior epigastric vessels and the pathogenesis of the disease

2020

While many scientific reports deal with inguinal hernia, including treatment methods and prosthetic devices proposed to provide a cure, few studies have sought to deepen our understanding of the etiology of this disease. The genesis of inguinal protrusion seems to be a neglected subject, even though addressing hernia genesis may be helpful for improving techniques and materials for surgical treatment. To clarify the source of inguinal protrusions, macroscopic and histological alterations of the inferior epigastric vessels in the herniated groin have been studied. These vascular structures exhibit significant features that could help to illuminate hernia genesis. In patients with double ipsil…

The value of diagnostic ultrasound for detecting occult inguinal hernia in patients with groin pain

2014

Aims: chronic groin pain caused by an occult hernia can be a difficult clinical diagnosis and may require additional investiga- tive modalities. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the accuracy of ultrasound in diagnosing occult hernia in patients with recurrent inguinal pain and a negative clinical examination. Patients and methods: over a period of three years, a total of 76 patients were referred for ultrasound examination with clini- cally suspected occult inguinal hernia. Patients with positive US scans were offered surgery, while those with negative US findings were offered further imaging or other diagnostic tests. The ultrasound examination of the inguinal region was conducted …

A New Prosthetic Implant for Inguinal Hernia Repair: Its Features in a Porcine Experimental Model

2011

Even after more than 100 years of inguinal hernia repair, the rate of complications and recurrence remains unacceptably high. In the last decades, few effective advances in surgical technique and materials have been made. The authors see them as minor adjustments in the shape and materials of the prosthetic implants. Still, the underlying genesis of inguinal hernia remains undefined. Based upon this, it seems the surgical repair of inguinal protrusions cannot be based upon the pathogenesis because the etiology to date has not been addressed. Most hernia repairs are performed with some degree of point fixation (sutures/tacks) to stop the mesh from migrating and creating high recurrence rates…

A Comprehensive Ultrasonographic Assessment of Pediatric and Adolescent Varicocele Can Improve Surgical Results.

2020

Purpose: Undetected refluxing venous systems could cause persistence/recurrence of varicoceles in patients undergoing varicocelectomy. Color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS) is an important tool in the diagnosis and follow-up of varicocele, and could be successfully used to detect a venous reflux in the iliac-deferential district, usually involved in the recurrence/persistence of varicocele. Materials and Methods: We compared 2 historical series of patients treated with Palomo laparoscopic varicocelectomy between 1994 and 2018. In group 1, preoperative scrotal CDUS was obtained, while in group 2, additional inguinal CDUS w…

Lärarnas uppfattningar om svenskundervisning vid grundläggande yrkesutbildning

2015

Tämän tutkielman tarkoitus on selvittää ammatillisen koulutuksen ruotsinopettajien mielipiteitä ruotsinopetuksesta ammatillisessa koulutuksessa. Tutkielmassa keskitytään erityisesti opettajien mielipiteisiin siitä, miten 1.8.2015 voimaan tulevat uudistuvat tutkintojen perusteet vaikuttavat ruotsinopetukseen sekä miten opettajat integroivat ruotsinopetusta ammatillisten aineiden opetukseen. Tutkielma toteutettiin keväällä 2015 kyselytutkimuksena ja siihen osallistui kuusi ammatillisen koulutuksen ruotsinopettajaa. Materiaali analysoitiin kvalitatiivisin menetelmin.

2010

Tutkimukseni tarkoituksena oli selvittää, millaisia oppisisältöjä ammatillisen perusasteen äidinkielen oppikirjoissa on ja miten niissä yhdistetään äidinkieltä ammattiopintoihin. Lisäksi tarkas-telin, miten kirjoissa olevat sisällöt vastaavat opetussuunnitelman perusteissa olevia keskeisiä sisältöalueita ja oppimistavoitteita. Tutkimukseni pääaineistona oli kolme oppikirjaa. Tekemällä taitavaksi on yleisesti ammattioppilaitoksille tarkoitettu oppikirja. Tehtävänä äidinkieli on tehty erityisesti tekniikan ja liikenteen aloja opiskelevia ajatellen. Tekniikan ja palvelualojen äidinkieli on suunnattu tekniikan ja palvelualojen opiskelijoille. Oppikirjojen lisäksi tarkastelin opetussuunnitelman …
