Minor Cutting Edge Wear in Finish Turning Operations
1999
In finish turning operation, it has already shown, that for the sake of control the dimensional accuracy and the micro-geometry of the worked surface, the wear parameters employed in rough turning operations are not suitable. In the present work the study of wear in fmish turning operations, is carried out, employing a particular groove survey methodology, already proposed in a previous paper, that is based on the techniques of acquirement and processing of images. In order to verify the applicability of the proposed technique two kind of alumina-based inserts and two kind of sintered carbide inserts have been tested. The experimental tests have confirmed the validity of the technique in th…
MADoSPRO: a new approach to molecular modelling studies on a series of DNA minor groove binders
2006
The aim of this work was devoted to develop a method to predict Delta G values for a series of minor groove binders. Starting from a matrix of docking dataset for 10 minor groove binders (known and not) to 20 DNA fragments, with various sequences, it was possible to analyze the interaction modes and to calculate the Delta G value for new derivatives through MADoSPRO procedure. The method allowed, through the QSPR analysis, to characterize the type of interactions in such complexes, that was demonstrated to be related to quantum chemical and electrostatic descriptors, in agreement with the information available in literature on the structural requirements of specific minor groove ligands. Mo…
Docking and synthesis of pyrrolopyrimidodiazepinone derivatives (PPDs) and their precursors: New scaffolds for DNA-interacting agents
2007
New classes of pyrrolopyrimidodiazepinone derivatives (PPDs) and their precursors were studied in silico for their ability to form stable complex with DNA fragment. In the docking studies two binding modes can be envisaged: groove mode and intercalating mode. In the case of the best ligands the docking studies revealed a common binding mode with the chromophore intercalated between GC base pairs whereas the side chain lies close to the minor groove. Synthetic approach to the PPD ring systems is discussed.
A framework for identifying the adaptations responsible for differences in pegboard times between middle-aged and older adults
2017
Time to complete two tests of manual dexterity, the 9-hole Peg Test and Grooved Pegboard Test, increases with advancing age. However, the adaptations responsible for the differences in pegboard times betweenmiddle-aged and older adults are largely unknown. Potential mechanisms include neuromuscular characteristics, cognitive function, and cutaneous sensation. To provide a tractable framework to address these gaps in knowledge, the purpose of the current study was to identify the latent variables underlying age-associated differences in time to complete the 9-hole and grooved pegboard tests. The approach involved an independent component analysis that identified associations between the two …
Morphology and preliminary biomechanical interpretation of mandibular sutures in Metoposaurus krasiejowensis (Temnospondyli, Stereospondyli) from the…
2019
Altres ajuts: CERCA Programme/Generalitat de Catalunya The morphology of the mandibular sutures in the Late Triassic temnospondyl Metoposaurus krasiejowensis has been examined in order to determine their role in mandible biomechanics. Until now, no histological studies of mandibular sutures in extinct vertebrates were performed, in contrast to cranial sutures. As a consequence, mandibular suture interpretations herein are based mainly on comparisons with previous studies of cranial sutures and with 3D cranial finite element analysis of this species. A total of 32 standard thin sections were studied under standard petrographic microscope observations in order to differentiate the morphology …
Determination of the residual stresses in composite laminate using the compliance method
2005
Residual stresses play an important role on the mechanical behavior of composite laminate. The development of new methods to determine the residual stresses gradient within the laminates is necessary. This article presents the adaptation of the compliance method in the case of composite laminates carbon/epoxy [02/902]s. The incremental drilling of a constant width groove allows for each increment to measure the strains (using strain gages) and displacements (using an optical device) of particularly points of the structure surface. These experimental data are compared with results given by a finite elements simulation. This comparison allows to raise the residual stresses in the composite la…
Continuous monitoring of an intentionally-manufactured crack using an automated welding and in-process inspection system
2020
Abstract Automated weld deposition coupled with the real-time robotic Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) is used in this paper. For performance verification of the in-process inspection system, an intentionally embedded defect, a tungsten rod, is introduced into the multi-pass weld. A partially-filled groove (staircase) sample is also manufactured and ultrasonically tested to calibrate the real-time inspection implemented on all seven layers of the weld which are deposited progressively. The tungsten rod is successfully detected in the real-time NDE of the deposited position. The same robotic inspection system was then used to continuously monitor an intentionally-manufactured crack for 20 h.…
Numerical study of photolithography system: electromagnetic differential method
2004
The R-matrix propagation algorithm is incorporated into the differential method to achieve an extended capability for modelling a photolithography systems. We show throughout this work the ability of the R-matrix algorithm and differential method to analyse gratings of arbitrary depth, profile, and conductivity without encountering numerical instabilities. We calculate the field intensity and the transmitted amplitudes in the 0 and −1 orders below different masks. We study also the influence of the various parameters (incidence, groove spacing, groove depth and index of refraction) on the field intensity maps and the transmittivity power. These results agree with the experimental patent: we…
Time spent on the smartphone does not relate to manual dexterity in young adults.
2021
Abstract Background The Grooved Pegboard Test (GPT) is widely adopted to evaluate manual dexterity, it presents normative data but the test is influenced by different factors. The influence of time spent on smartphones has not been considered before, for this reason, the objective of this study was to evaluate if smartphone use influences the time to complete the GPT. A total of 38 (21 women; 17 men) young adults 20.7 (1.5) years participated in the study. The time spent on the smartphones during the last seven days was recorded through the device itself and the GPT performance was measured. A correlation analysis between the time spent on the smartphone and GPT was performed while the t-te…
