Asymptotic Safety in Quantum Einstein Gravity: Nonperturbative Renormalizability and Fractal Spacetime Structure
2007
The asymptotic safety scenario of Quantum Einstein Gravity, the quantum field theory of the spacetime metric, is reviewed and it is argued that the theory is likely to be nonperturbatively renormalizable. It is also shown that asymptotic safety implies that spacetime is a fractal in general, with a fractal dimension of 2 on sub-Planckian length scales.
Quantum-state-selective decay spectroscopy of Ra213
2017
An experimental scheme combining the mass resolving power of a Penning trap with contemporary decay spectroscopy has been established at GSI Darmstadt. The Universal Linear Accelerator (UNILAC) at GSI Darmstadt provided a $^{48}\mathrm{Ca}$ beam impinging on a thin $^{170}\mathrm{Er}$ target foil. Subsequent to velocity filtering of reaction products in the Separator for Heavy Ion reaction Products (SHIP), the nuclear ground state of the $5n$ evaporation channel $^{213}\mathrm{Ra}$ was mass-selected in SHIPTRAP, and the $^{213}\mathrm{Ra}$ ions were finally transferred into an array of silicon strip detectors surrounded by large composite germanium detectors. Based on comprehensive geant4 s…
Physics potential of the Jiangmen underground neutrino observatory
2019
JUNO (Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory) is a 20 kton multipurpose neutrinodetector under construction in China and it will be completed in 2021. The detector will belocated near the the city of Jiangmen, 53 km away from two nuclear power plants that willprovide the neutrino flux for the main sear of the observatory. The main physics goal is the determination of the neutrino Mass Hierarchy, even if will play animportant also in other topics, such as: neutrino oscillation, solar neutrino, SuperNova neutrinos, geoneutrinos and atmosperic neutrinos among others
Neutrino searches at the Pierre Auger Observatory
2013
Abstract The surface detector array of the Pierre Auger Observatory is sensitive to ultra-high energy neutrinos in the cosmic radiation. Neutrinos can interact in the atmosphere close to ground (down-going) and, for tau neutrinos, through the Earth-skimming mechanism (up-going) where a tau lepton is produced in the Earth crust that can emerge and decay in the atmosphere. Both types of neutrino-induced events produce an inclined particle air shower that can be identified by the presence of a broad time structure of signals in the water-Cherenkov detectors. We discuss the neutrino identification criteria used and present the corresponding limits on the diffuse and point-like source fluxes.
Computing the nucleon Dirac radius directly at $Q^2=0$
2016
We describe a lattice approach for directly computing momentum derivatives of nucleon matrix elements using the Rome method, which we apply to obtain the isovector magnetic moment and Dirac radius. We present preliminary results calculated at the physical pion mass using a 2HEX-smeared Wilson-clover action. For removing the effects of excited-state contamination, the calculations were done at three source-sink separations and the summation method was used.
Recoil Decay Tagging Study Of Transitional Proton Emitters 145,146,147Tm
2005
International audience; Gamma rays from the transitional proton emitting nuclei 145,146,147Tm have been observed using the recoil-decay tagging technique. The ground state band of 147Tm was confirmed and extended and the unfavoured signature sequence was observed. A ground state rotational band with properties of a decoupled h11/2 band was observed in 145Tm. In addition coincidences between the proton fine structure line and the 2+-->0+ gamma-ray transition in 144Er were detected at the focal plane of the FMA. This is the first time that coincidences between proton radioactive decays and gamma rays have been seen. The particle decay of 146Tm has been measured with improved statistics and a …
Possible neutron and proton halo structure in the isobaric analog states of A=12 nuclei
2020
The differential cross sections of the $^{11}\mathrm{B}(^{3}\mathrm{He},d)^{12}\mathrm{C}$ reaction leading to formation of the ${0}^{+}$ ground state and the 15.11-MeV 1 ${}^{+}$, 16.57-MeV ${2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, and 17.23-MeV ${1}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ excited states of $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ are measured at ${E}_{\text{lab}}=25$ MeV. The analysis of the data is carried out within the coupled-reaction-channels method for the direct proton transfer to the bound and unbound states. The rms radii of the last proton in all states studied are determined. A comparison of the rms radii of the $^{12}\mathrm{B}, ^{12}\mathrm{C}$, and $^{12}\mathrm{N}$ nuclei in the isobaric analog states (IASs) with isosp…
Proton-Neutron Pairing Correlations in the Self-Conjugate NucleusK38Probed via a Direct Measurement of the Isomer Shift
2014
A marked difference in the nuclear charge radius was observed between the ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={3}^{+}$ ground state and the ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={0}^{+}$ isomer of $^{38}\mathrm{K}$ and is qualitatively explained using an intuitive picture of proton-neutron pairing. In a high-precision measurement of the isomer shift using bunched-beam collinear laser spectroscopy at CERN-ISOLDE, a change in the mean-square charge radius of $⟨{r}_{\mathrm{c}}^{2}⟩{(}^{38}{\mathrm{K}}^{m})\ensuremath{-}⟨{r}_{\mathrm{c}}^{2}⟩{(}^{38}{\mathrm{K}}^{g})=0.100(6)\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fm}}^{2}$ was obtained. This is an order of magnitude more accurate than the result of a previous indirect measurement fr…
Hindered Gamow-Teller Decay to the Odd-OddN=ZGa62: Absence of Proton-NeutronT=0Condensate inA=62
2014
Search for a new kind of superfluidity built on collective proton-neutron pairs with aligned spin is performed studying the Gamow-Teller decay of the T=1, Jπ=0+ ground state of Ge62 into excited states of the odd-odd N=Z nucleus Ga62. The experiment is performed at GSI Helmholtzzentrum fur Schwerionenforschung with the Ge62 ions selected by the fragment separator and implanted in a stack of Si-strip detectors, surrounded by the RISING Ge array. A half-life of T1/2=82.9(14) ms is measured for the Ge62 ground state. Six excited states of Ga62, populated below 2.5 MeV through Gamow-Teller transitions, are identified. Individual Gamow-Teller transition strengths agree well with theoretical pred…
