A new forum for upconversion research: The UPCON conference

International audience; The Conference and Spring School on Properties, Design and Applications of Upconversion Nanomaterials (UPCON) provides a new forum for all experts and newcomers in the field of upconversion research. On the occasion of the second UPCON 2018 in Valencia (Spain), we are pleased to present a collection of 12 reviews and research articles that reflect recent advances in upconversion materials, their unique luminescent properties and many applications spanning from nanoscale thermometry to biomedicine.

This paper presents a survey conducted on a method that integrates the use of a semiformal notation, namely the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and a formal notation, namely B. A number of quantitative studies of pair programming (the practice of two programmers working together using just one computer) have partially conflicting results. Qualitative studies are needed to explain what is really going on. We support such studies by taking a grounded theory (GT) approach for deriving a coding scheme for the objective conceptual description of specific pair programming sessions independent of a particular research goal. Their fate in the soil depends on the virus, the soil and the soil solution. Interest in studying teaching practices has increased, because of the need to evaluate teachers and dissatisfaction with the usual ways of doing it. Recent approaches with Value-Added Models, based on students’ results on achievement tests do not seem satisfactory. The article is based on a review of literature and classifies the approaches to practices in three groups: instruments based on information given by teachers; observation protocols; and approaches based on the analysis of products of the practices. Tutkimuksessa kysytään, millaisia merkityksiä ja toimintapaikkoja vanhemmat saavat koulun arjessa, tarkastellaan vanhempien tulkintoja koulusta sekä kodin ja koulun yhteistyöstä sekä pohditaan opettajuuden ja vanhemmuuden yhteen kietoutumista.
