Transient Electrical Behaviour of the TF Superconducting Coils of Divertor Tokamak Test Facility During a Fast Discharge

2022

The paper is focused on the electromagnetic analysis of the Toroidal Field (TF) superconducting coils of the Divertor Tokamak Test facility (DTT) when electrical transients occur in the TF coils system: for example, during the operations of the Fast Discharge Units (FDUs) and considering also, the simultaneous occurrence of a fault condition. During the FDU intervention, a transient voltage excitation lasting few microseconds occurs at the TF coil terminals and it electrically stresses the insulations of TF coils itsef. To investigate the voltage distribution across, inside and between different Double Pancakes (DPs) of each TF coil, a lumped parameters circuital model has been developed an…

Synthesis, structural characterization and magnetic behaviour of a family of [CoIII2LnIII2] butterfly compounds

2017

We have successfully prepared and structurally characterized a family of butterfly-like [Co2 IIILn2 III] complexes where all magnetic properties are due to the Ln(iii) ions. The complexes with Ln = Tb(1), Dy(2), Ho(3), Er(4) and Yb(5) are iso-structural. An exception is the complex with Ln = Gd(6) which strings in a one dimensional chain. The structural similarity together with the high tendency of the crystallites to align under an applied magnetic field allowed an overall DC magnetic data treatment to extract phenomenological crystal field parameters and hence to determine the ground state multiplet energy level splitting. The Dy(iii) member is the only one showing slow relaxation of magn…

Fall of Potential Measurement of the Earth Resistance in Urban Environments: Accuracy Evaluation

2019

Both Standards EN 50522 and IEEE 81 propose the fall of potential method (FPM) to carry out the measurement of the resistance to earth ( $R_{\text{ES}}$ ) of an earthing system (ES). However, in urban areas, the recommended distances between the ES and auxiliary electrodes are not easy to respect, due to the presence of buildings and tarmac. Furthermore, unknown buried metallic parts and interconnections among ESs could modify the earth potential profile of the area, affecting the measurement results. In this paper, the key-issues that influence the measured $R_{\text{ES}}$ when the FPM is used in an urban environment are presented. A parametric analysis, carried out with Comsol Multiphysic…

The effect of vertical ground movement on masonry walls simulated through an elastic–plastic interphase meso-model: a case study

2019

The present paper proposes an interphase model for the simulation of damage propagation in masonry walls in the framework of a mesoscopic approach. The model is thermodynamically consistent, with constitutive relations derived from a Helmholtz free potential energy. With respect to classic interface elements, the internal stress contribute is added to the contact stresses. It is considered that damage, in the form of loss of adhesion or cohesion, can potentially take place at each of the two blocks–mortar physical interfaces. Flow rules are obtained in the framework of the Theory of Plasticity, considering bilinear domains of ‘Coulomb with tension cut-off’ type. The model aims to be a first…

Economic Aspects of the Conjunctive Use of Ground and Surface Water

1989

Abstract The different structure of the costs of ground and surface water and the different and complementary characteristics of both kinds of resources make it possible to solve the specific needs of water quantity and quality more adequately and economically if both resources are used conjunctively. Higher discount rates favour the inclusion of elements involving lower initial investment and generally with higher groundwater components. Lower discount rates favour a higher participation of surface water. The external factors produced by groundwater pumping must be taken into consideration in any economic analysis. Examples of external factors are water level descents, surface water flow r…

Trajectory tracking for an Ultralight WIG

2007

In this paper we present our research about a particular ultralight WIG. We have carried out the design of a Flight Control System that has to fix the control variables trend through a non-linear mathematical model, because of the particular geometric and aerodynamic configuration of this WIG. So, the non-linear mathematical model design has to reproduce exactly the aircraft behaviour either OGE or IGE. In particular, through classical semi-empirical relations, analytical equations have been obtained in order to evaluate incidence variations, downwash and upwash angles due to the ground. In the present paper only longitudinal dynamic is considered, because of its peculiarity in WIG's aircra…

The closed form of the second-order energy shift for the discrete spectrum of atomic hydrogen

2004

The closed form of the second-order energy shift for the discrete spectrum of atomic hydrogen is obtained, which allows us to evaluate the level shift in both cases, when the intermediate states are in continuum and in the discrete spectrum, except the resonances. The values of the second-order shift of the energy of the ground state calculated by us are in good agreement with those obtained by us and other authors using the nonperturbative Floquet method in average up to a radiation intensity of 1015 W cm−2.

On the use of mixing reactors in flow injection analysis with thermal lens calorimetric detection

1993

Abstract In flow injection analysis with thermal lens calorimetric detection, mixing of reagent streams of different composition before the detection cell produces a large background noise. The noise is due to the heterogeneity of the mixture which produces refractive changes in the probe beam direction. Procedures to measure the homogeneity of the mixture of solutions are derived, and used to evaluate and improve the mixing efficiencies of packed bead reactors. Using well-designed reactors, the mixing noise can be reduced below the noise levels due to other sources.

Two competing species in super-diffusive dynamical regimes

2010

The dynamics of two competing species within the framework of the generalized Lotka-Volterra equations, in the presence of multiplicative alpha-stable Lévy noise sources and a random time dependent interaction parameter, is studied. The species dynamics is characterized by two different dynamical regimes, exclusion of one species and coexistence of both, depending on the values of the interaction parameter, which obeys a Langevin equation with a periodically fluctuating bistable potential and an additive alpha-stable Lévy noise. The stochastic resonance phenomenon is analyzed for noise sources asymmetrically distributed. Finally, the effects of statistical dependence between multiplicative …
