Nonequilibrium Green's function approach to strongly correlated few-electron quantum dots

The effect of electron-electron scattering on the equilibrium properties of few-electron quantum dots is investigated by means of nonequilibrium Green's function theory. The ground and equilibrium states are self-consistently computed from the Matsubara (imaginary time) Green's function for the spatially inhomogeneous quantum dot system whose constituent charge carriers are treated as spin-polarized. To include correlations, the Dyson equation is solved, starting from a Hartree-Fock reference state, within a conserving (second-order) self-energy approximation where direct and exchange contributions to the electron-electron interaction are included on the same footing. Retrieval of Forest Water Potential from L-Band Vegetation Optical Depth

A retrieval methodology for forest water potential from ground-based L-band radiometry is proposed. It contains the estimation of the gravimetric and the relative water content of a forest stand and tests in situ- and model-based functions to transform these estimates into forest water potential. The retrieval is based on vegetation optical depth data from a tower-based experiment of the SMAPVEX 19–21 campaign for the period from April to October 2019 at Harvard Forest, MA, USA. Low-energy Neutrino Astronomy in LENA

LENA (Low Energy Neutrino Astronomy) is a proposed next-generation neutrino detector based on 50 kilotons of liquid scintillator. The low detection threshold, good energy resolution and excellent background rejection inherent to the liquid-scintillator detectors make LENA a versatile observatory for low-energy neutrinos from astrophysical and terrestrial sources. Engineering issues for which the understanding of the chemo-mechanical behaviour of soils is relevant include wellbore stability problems, the salinification of groundwater, and nuclear waste storage. However, despite the vast number of situations in which couplings between chemistry and mechanics occur, the available constitutive models rely on limited experimental evidence. This paper presents the results of an experimental programme on the chemo-mechanical behaviour of a non-swelling illite. Experimental investigations of the hypernucleus $_Λ^4$H

International audience; Negatively charged pions from two-body decays of stopped _Lambda^4H hypernuclei were studied in 2012 at the Mainz Microtron MAMI, Germany. The momenta of the decay-pions were measured with unprecedented precision by using high-resolution magnetic spectrometers. A challenge of the experiment was the tagging of kaons from associated K^+∧ production off a Be target at very forward angles. Succinate-bonded pullulan: An efficient and reusable super-sorbent for cadmium-uptake from spiked high-hardness groundwater.

Abstract Chemically modified pullulan was evaluated for its sorption efficiency and selectivity to remove cadmium (Cd) from spiked high-hardness groundwater (GW). Pullulan esterified with succinic anhydride using dimethylaminopyridine showed a fairly high degree of substitution value as confirmed by 1 H NMR spectroscopy. Pullulan succinate (Pull-Suc) was converted into the sodium salt (Pull-Suc-Na). The effect of contact time (5–200 min) and pH (2–8) on Cd-uptake by the sorbent (Pull-Suc-Na) was investigated. The reaction of aqueous solutions of EuIII, TbIII, and GdIII ions with Na2Hpcpa [H3pcpa = N-(4-carboxyphenyl)oxamic acid] afforded three new isostructural oxamate-containing lanthanide(III) coordination polymers of general formula {LnIII2(Hpcpa)3(H2O)5·H2O}n [Ln = Eu (1),Tb (2), and Gd(3)]. The first lanthanide complex of a 1,2,4-benzotriazinyl radical (1), Dy(1)(tbacac)3 (2, tbacac = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptane-dionato), was synthesised and found to have an antiferromagnetically ordered ground state with a metamagnetic phase diagram and a critical field of 0.91 T at 1.85 K. The application of a small dc field revealed the single-molecule magnet behaviour of 2, illustrating the coexistence of long-range antiferromagnetic order and slow relaxation of the magnetization. peerReviewed

Two C3-symmetric Dy3 III complexes with triple di-μ-methoxo-μ-phenoxo bridges, magnetic ground state, and single-molecule magnetic behavior

Two series of isostructural C3-symmetric Ln3 complexes Ln3·[BPh4] and Ln3·0. 33[Ln(NO3)6] (in which LnIII=Gd and Dy) have been prepared from an amino-bis(phenol) ligand. X-ray studies reveal that LnIII ions are connected by one μ2-phenoxo and two μ3-methoxo bridges, thus leading to a hexagonal bipyramidal Ln3O5 bridging core in which LnIII ions exhibit a biaugmented trigonal-prismatic geometry.
