Family-Based Intervention Program for Parents of Substance-Abusing Youth and Adolescents.
2016
Theuse of drugs among adolescents/youth often results in a high degree of distress for the familymembers who live with them. This in turn can lead to a deterioration of mental (psychological) health, hindering any attempt to successfully cope with the situation. The goal of our research was to study the effect of the Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) program on parents of adolescents/young adult drug users. Study volunteers (𝑛 = 50) were parents fromValencia (Spain) that were divided into two groups. The experimental group (𝑛 = 25) was made up of parents whose sons and daughters exhibited problems with drug use and the constructed noncausal baseline group (𝑛 = 25)…

Consensus on nomenclature for clinical staging models in bipolar disorder: A narrative review from the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (I…
2021
Objectives Clinical staging is widely used in medicine to map disease progression, inform prognosis and guide treatment decisions; in psychiatry, however, staging remains a hypothetical construct. To facilitate future research in bipolar disorders (BD), a well-defined nomenclature is needed, especially since diagnosis is often imprecise with blurred boundaries, and a full understanding of pathophysiology is lacking. Methods Under the auspices of the International Society of Bipolar Disorders, a Task Force of international experts was convened to review, discuss, and integrate findings from the scientific literature relevant to the development of a consensus staging model and standardize a t…
Incidence, prevalence and clinical correlates of antidepressant-emergent mania in bipolar depression: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
2018
Background: Treatment-emergent mania (TEM) represents a common phenomenon inconsistently reported across primary studies, warranting further assessment. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) and Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) guidelines were conducted. Major electronic databases were searched from inception to May 2017 to assess the incidence and prevalence rates and clinical features associated with manic switch among bipolar depressed patients receiving antidepressants, using meta-regression and subgroup analysis. Results: Overall, 10 098 depressed patients wit…
Impact of grouping patients by 2017 GOLD strategy assessment criteria: a post hoc analysis of the TONADO and OTEMTO trials
2017
Introduction: Compared to the 2014 scheme, the 2017 GOLD COPD strategy uses only symptoms and exacerbation history to group patients, and no longer gives reference to the severity of airflow limitation. Aims: This post hoc analysis of TONADO and OTEMTO data aims to determine the impact of updated assessment criteria on patient classification and characteristics within these groups. Methods: TONADO (NCT01431274/NCT01431287; N=5162) and OTEMTO (NCT01964352/NCT02006732; N=1621) Phase III trials investigated efficacy and safety of tiotropium+olodatorol fixed-dose combination in COPD patients. In this analysis, patients were classed as GOLD A–D by the 2017 or 2014 criteria. In TONADO the mMRC Dy…
<p>Efficacy and safety of tiotropium + olodaterol maintenance treatment in patients with COPD in the TONADO&reg; and…
2016
BACKGROUND Increasing age is associated with poor prognosis in patients with COPD. OBJECTIVE This analysis from the replicate Phase III OTEMTO® and TONADO® studies examined the efficacy and safety of tiotropium, a long-acting anticholinergic, combined with olodaterol, a long-acting β2-agonist, compared to monotherapies and placebo in patients with COPD aged 40 years to <65 years, 65 years to <75 years, 75 years to <85 years, and ≥85 years. METHODS In these double-blind, parallel-group, active-controlled, multicenter, randomized studies, patients received tiotropium + olodaterol 2.5/5 μg or 5/5 μg, tiotropium 5 μg or 2.5 μg (TONADO only), olodaterol 5 μg (TONADO only), or placebo (OTEMTO onl…
J14 Mediterranean Diet And Nutritional Composition Of Patients With Huntington's Disease. Spanish Multicenter Study Of The European Group For Hunting…
2014
Background The impact of a diet is well known in human health. Intake of food groups (fruits and ‘uts, vegetables, legumes, olive oil, whole grains, fish and wine) in the traditional Mediterranean Diet (MeDi) and high MeDi adherence have been associated with lower incidence of chronic diseases and slower cognitive decline, but the relationship between MeDi adherence and nutritional composition has not been reported. Objectives To describe MeDi and nutritional composition in patients with HD. Methods Spanish multicenter, cross-sectional study (EHDN). To assess MeDi we used a 3-days dietary record. Food groups, macro and micronutrients and energy intake information were obtained using the sof…
Liver transarterial chemoembolization and sunitinib for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma: Results of the PRODIGE 16 study
2021
Summary Background Trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is one first-line option therapy for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) not suitable for surgical resection. Aims We evaluated the effects of sunitinib plus doxorubicin-TACE on bleeding or liver failure. Methods Seventy-eight patients with HCC were included in this randomized, double-blind study. They received one to three TACE plus either sunitinib or placebo four weeks out of six for one year. The occurrence of severe bleeding or liver failure was assessed during the week after the TACE. The safety and survival outcomes were evaluated. Results No bleeding complication was reported. One and two liver failures were respect…
Impact of margin status on long-term results of liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma: single-center time-to-recurrence analysis
2020
Occult metastasis from the initial tumor and a de novo second primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were recognized as the main causes for the onset of early and late HCC recurrence, after liver resection (LR). This study aims to compare the time to recurrence after LR for HCC in which a margin ≤ 1 mm or > 1 mm was achieved. A single-center retrospective study involving 256 patients was conducted from June 2005 to June 2019. HCC patients resected with a radical surgical approach were investigated and stratified into groups A (resection margins ≤ 1 mm) and B (> 1 mm), as measured on final pathologic assessment. Kaplan–Meier estimators were used to estimate the probability of recurrenc…
Spectral Clustering Reveals Different Profiles of Central Sensitization in Women with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
2021
Identification of subgroups of patients with chronic pain provides meaningful insights into the characteristics of a specific population, helping to identify individuals at risk of chronification and to determine appropriate therapeutic strategies. This paper proposes the use of spectral clustering (SC) to distinguish subgroups (clusters) of individuals with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), making use of the obtained patient profiling to argue about potential management implications. SC is a powerful algorithm that builds a similarity graph among the data points (the patients), and tries to find the subsets of points that are strongly connected among themselves, but weakly connected to others.…
