Entextualization and resemiotization as resources for identification in social media
2014
Drawing on insights provided by linguistic anthropology, the study of multisemioticity and research in computer-mediated discourse (CMD), this chapter discusses how entextualization (Bauman & Briggs, 1990; Silverstein & Urban, 1996; Blommaert, 2005, pp. 46–8) and resemiotization (Iedema, 2003; Scollon & Scollon, 2004, pp. 101–3; Scollon, 2008) are key resources for identity work in social media. Three key arguments inspire and give direction to our discussion, each of them laying down touchstones for language scholars who wish to investigate identity in social media. First, for many individuals and social or cultural groups, social media are increasingly significant grassroots arenas for in…
Vanhemmuuden ja selviytymiskykyisyyden tukeminen ohjatussa äiti–lapsi-vertaisryhmässä
2022
Some remarks on Landau's (macroscopic) phase transition theory
2012
This paper explain the existence of a particular formal model (drew from Theoretical Astrophysics) whose thermodynamical phenomenology shows a possible second order phase transition (according to Landau’s Thermodynamical Theory) that seems does not verify the (Birman-Goldrich-Jaric) ”chain subduction criterion” and the (Ascher’s) ”maximality criterion” of Landau’s Phenomenological Theory. Therefore, it follows that Landau’s Phenomenological Theory is more restrictive than the Landau’s Thermodynamical Theory.
Nature of Bonding in Group 13 Dimetallenes: a Delicate Balance between Singlet Diradical Character and Closed Shell Interactions
2010
The nature of metal−metal bonding in group 13 dimetallenes REER (E = Al, Ga, In, Tl; R = H, Me, tBu, Ph) was investigated by use of quantum chemical methods that include HF, second order Møller−Plesset perturbation theory (MP2), coupled cluster (CCSD(T)), complete active space with (CASPT2) and without (CAS) second order perturbation theory, and two density functionals, namely, B3LYP and M06-2X. The results show that the metal−metal interaction in group 13 dimetallenes stems almost exclusively from static and dynamic electron correlation effects: both dialuminenes and digallenes have an important singlet diradical component in their wave function, whereas the bonding in the heavier diindene…

Online interventions to prevent mental health problems implemented in school settings: the perspectives from key stakeholders in Austria and Spain
2021
Abstract Background Schools are key settings for delivering mental illness prevention in adolescents. Data on stakeholders’ attitudes and factors relevant for the implementation of Internet-based prevention programmes are scarce. Methods Stakeholders in the school setting from Austria and Spain were consulted. Potential facilitators (e.g. teachers and school psychologists) completed an online questionnaire (N=50), policy makers (e.g. representatives of the ministry of education and health professional associations) participated in semi-structured interviews (N=9) and pupils (N=29, 14–19 years) participated in focus groups. Thematic analysis was used to identify experiences with, attitudes a…
Hallinnollinen vuorovaikutus sairaalatyöyhteisössä
2018
As the healthcare sector is constantly growing and changing, it is more important than ever to consider how we can ensure that a sufficient number of employees are available in healthcare organizations now and in the future. Social interactions play a key role when it comes to constructing, maintaining and developing organizations, workplaces, groups and teams that motivate people. Administrative groups, such as various management groups and staff meetings, have a significant impact on the performance of organizations and their employees. They create resources and develop and maintain the processes for the entire organization. The aim of this doctoral dissertation is to better understand ad…
Vuorovaikutus julkisen sairaalan johtoryhmäkokouksissa: Johtoryhmäjäsenten osallistumisen tarkastelua vuorovaikutuksen prosessianalyysin keinoin
2014
Management groups are an essential part of the management system in Finnish hospitals. Nevertheless, only a few empirical studies have, to date, focused on public sector management teams. This study aims to understand social interaction in management team meetings by describing 1) how management team members participate during meetings and 2) what types of participant roles are constructed during meetings. Three consecutive meetings of an operational area-level management team were videoed. The social interaction was analyzed using the Bales’ Interaction Process Analysis. The results show that interaction during these meetings is task-related and chairperson-centered. The members participat…
Further development of integrated threat theory and intergroup contact: a reply to Aberson (2015)
2016
ABSTRACTThis essay furthers a dialogue about the theoretical and statistical merits of Croucher's [(2013). Integrated threat theory and acceptance of immigrant assimilation: An analysis of Muslim immigration in Western Europe. Communication Monographs, 80, 46–62] study exploring the relationships between threat from an immigrant group, belief that an immigrant wants to assimilate, and intergroup contact. Key points of divergence include assertions that (a) the relationships in the original piece are counter to previous literature/relationships, (b) the correlations presented are implausible, (c) the magnitude of the relationships is too strong, and (d) the manuscript has “odd” multiple regr…
