Abstract This study examined whether the transition practices implemented in preschool–elementary school pairs contribute to children's academic development during the first year of elementary school. Participants were 398 children who moved from 36 preschools to 22 elementary schools in two Finnish towns. Children were tested in respect to their reading, writing, and math skills in the preschool spring and in the grade 1 spring. The growth of the spatangoid echinoid Echinocardium cordatum is described by using the three standards (size,shape and age) that are classicaly involved in analyses of heterochronies. A population from Normandy, including all the growth stages, allows an ontogenetic reference to be established, while comparisons are performed with adult samples from other localities (Brittany, Aquitaine, and New-Zealand). The morphology of E. cordatum is characterized by 23 measured parameters and 13 calculated indexes. Macro-economic policy coordination remains a challenge in the EU. The European Semester was designed to help facilitate more coordination. In the area of wage policies, it encourages Germany and the Netherlands to support stronger wage growth, while Italy and Portugal have been told to exercise wage restraint. This paper analyses how domestic interest group politics influence how EU recommendations are received. Reflecting on the different growth models that underpin these four countries, we find that country-specific recommendations meet country-specific obstacles – independent of whether recommendations aim at increasing or reducing wages. Multiplicity, Overtaking and Convergence in the Lucas Two-Sector Growth Model

This paper provides the complete closed-form solution to the Lucas two-sector model of endogenous growth. We study the issues of existence, unique-ness, multiplicity, positivity, transitional dynamics and long-run growth, re-lated to the competitive equilibrium paths. We identify the parameter range where the different results hold and deduce the entire trajectories for the original variables. We revise the results on convergence and overtaking which arise from this model, and prove that the parameterization currently used as the background for an explanation of economic miracles and disasters, is not satisfactory because of its counterintuitive implications.

AIM The aim of this study was to establish age-dependent reference ranges for fetal foot length with gestation as well as for the femur/foot length ratio, based on a mathematical growth model. METHOD In a prospective cross-sectional study of 610 pregnancies with sonographically confirmed gestational age (< 12 weeks' gestation), fetal biometry was performed in addition to measurements of fetal foot length between 12 and 42 completed weeks of gestation. Reference ranges for the fetal foot and for the femur/foot length ratio were constructed with an overall coverage of 90% of the measured data, using a previously established method of determining reference bands for growth parameters. Head parameters BPD, FOD and HC and abdomen parameters ATD, APD and AC have been ascertained in a prospective cross-sectional study in 515 healthy single fetuses between 13 and 40 weeks of gestation by ultrasound. In all cases ultrasound velocity was 1540 m/sec. From these data, a growth model was achieved for each parameter and corresponding growth curves with 5%, 10%, 50%, 90% and 95% percentiles were established.

Microalgae are unicellular and photosynthetic microorganisms which grow thanks to inorganic salts, CO2 and light, and find applications in several fields thanks to their variety.
