2011

Tässä pro gradu –tutkielmassa pureudutaan Kurt Vonnegutin metafiktiivisen Timequake-romaanin (1997) monimutkaiseen tekstuaaliseen identiteettiin tarkastelemalla sen pohjalla olevaa uudelleenkirjoittamista kahdesta eri näkökulmasta. Näiden kahden toisiinsa limittyvän tutkimusongelman lisäksi tutkielman kolmas päämaali on transponoida karikatyyrin käsite Vonnegutin romaania geneerisesti määritteleväksi termiksi. Uudelleenkirjoittamiseen luoduista näkökulmista ensimmäinen viittaa konkreettiseen fiktiivisen romaanin käsikirjoituksen kirjoittamiseen uudelleen. Asiaan paneudutaan käsitteellistämällä romaanin kerronnallinen upotusrakenne ja siinä ilmenevä henkilöhahmojen, tapahtumien ja teemojen t…

Density Decline in a Mediterranean Seahorse Population: Natural Fluctuations or New Emerging Threats?

2021

Illegal wildlife trade is considered one of the most serious threats to biodiversity worldwide, along with habitat loss/degradation and overfishing of wild stocks. Seahorses are considered at high risk as these fish represent an important component of traditional Chinese medicine but are also sold as curios and ornamental fish. On a worldwide level, illegal trade is controlled by numerous laws and regulations, but it seems to continue by assuming more dynamic routes. In the Mediterranean Sea, Hippocampus guttulatus formed one of the largest populations at Mar Piccolo di Taranto in South-Eastern Italy. During the routine monitoring of this population in 2016, a dramatic density decrease was …

2022

New actors in the gut :emerging players in motility and in inflammatory bowel diseae

2017

Gastrointestinal motility is an integrated process generated and modulated by local and circulating hormones and neurotransmitters which act and interact directly and indirectly on muscle cells. A plethora of regulators have been identified, but this field is continuously in expansion. Among the new actors in gut accumulating evidence strongly supports a role of renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the digestive tract cooperating with other major mediators for maintaining gastrointestinal homeostasis. Transcripts encoding RAS components were detected in gastrointestinal tract and the involvement of RAS in gut motility modulation is increasingly emerging. The available literature demonstrated t…

Variability of the human gut microbiota in space, time, and associated with the irritable bowel syndrome

2013

Interkingdom Gut Microbiome and Resistome of the Cockroach Blattella germanica

2021

Cockroaches are intriguing animals with two coexisting symbiotic systems, an endosymbiont in the fat body, involved in nitrogen metabolism, and a gut microbiome whose diversity, complexity, role, and developmental dynamics have not been fully elucidated. In this work, we present a metagenomic approach to study Blattella germanica populations not treated, treated with kanamycin, and recovered after treatment, both naturally and by adding feces to the diet, with the aim of better understanding the structure and function of its gut microbiome along the development as well as the characterization of its resistome.
