Measurement of GEp/GMp via polarization transfer at Q2 = 0.4 GeV /c2

The polarization transfer from longitudinally polarized electrons to protons in the elastic scattering p( e, e' p) has been measured around Q2 = 0.4 (GeV/c)2 with the three-spectrometer facility at the Mainz microtron MAMI. From this polarization transfer the ratio G Ep/(G Mp/μp) has been determined. The ratio is found to be slightly less than unity in agreement with recent results from other laboratories and from the Rosenbluth separation of cross-sections measured with unpolarized electrons.
CERN’s Linac4 cesiated surface H− source

Linac4 cesiated surface H− sources are routinely operated for the commissioning of the CERN’s Linac4 and on an ion source test stand. Stable current of 40-50 mA are achieved but the transmission through the LEBT of 80% was below expectations and triggered additional beam simulation and characterization. The H− beam profile is not Gaussian and emittance measurements are larger than simulation. The status of ongoing development work is described; 36 mA H− and 20 mA D− beams were produced with a 5.5 mm aperture cesiated surface ion source. Gamow-Teller Transitions and β-decay Half-life in Proton Rich pf-shell Nuclei

In violent neutrino‐induced reactions at the core‐collapse stage of type II supernovae, Gamow‐Teller (GT) transitions starting from stable as well as unstable pf‐shell nuclei play important roles. In the β‐decay study of these unstable pf‐shell nuclei, half‐lives can be measured rather accurately. On the other hand, in high‐resolution (3He,t) charge‐exchange reactions at 0°, individual GT transitions up to high excitations can be studied. Assuming the isospin symmetry for the strengths of Tz = ±2→±1 analogous GT transitions, we present a “merged analysis” for the determination of GT transition strengths starting from proton‐rich Tz = −2 nuclei. A study of D*+π- production in semileptonic B decay

Abstract In a sample of 1.5 million hadronic decays of the Z collected by the ALEPH detector, a search is carried out for the decays B → D 1 0 (2420)l − ν X and B → D 2 ∗0 (2460)l − ν X . The product branching ratio for D10 production is measured to be Br (b → B ) × Br( B → D 1 0 l − ν X) × Br(D 1 0 → D ∗+ π − ) = (2.04 ± 0.58 stat ± 0.34 syst ) × 10 −3 , and a 95% confidence level limit of Br(b → B ) × Br( B → D 2 ∗0 l − ν X) × Br(D 2 ∗0 → D ∗+ π − ) ≤ 0.81 × 10 −3 is obtained for D2∗0 production. Production and decay of charmed mesons at the Z resonance

Abstract In a sample of 190 000 hadronic Z decays, three signals of charm production are observed: two from the exclusive decays D ° → K − π + and D ∗+ → D °π + → K − π + π + and one in the transverse-momentum distribution of soft hadrons relative to the nearest jet. The features of these signals are in good agreement with expectations based on the standard model and previous measurements of the branching fractions. The number of D ∗± → K ± π ± π ± per hadronic decay of the Z is measured to be (5.11±0.34) × 10 −3 , and the branching ratio B(D 0 → K − π + ) is (3.62 ± 0.34 ± 0.44)%. The “Physics Beyond Colliders” Projects for the CERN M2 Beam

Abstract Physics Beyond Colliders is an exploratory study aimed at exploiting the full scientific potential of CERN’s accelerator complex up to 2040 and its scientific infrastructure through projects complementary to the existing and possible future colliders. Within the Conventional Beam Working Group (CBWG), several projects for the M2 beam line in the CERN North Area were proposed, such as a successor for the COMPASS experiment, a muon programme for NA64 dark sector physics, and the MuonE proposal aiming at investigating the hadronic contribution to the vacuum polarisation. Production of (anti-)He3 and (anti-)H3 in p-Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV

The transverse momentum (pT) differential yields of (anti-)3He and (anti-)3H measured in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are presented. The ratios of the pTintegrated yields of (anti-)3He and (anti-)3H to the proton yields are reported, as well as the pT dependence of the coalescence parameters B3 for (anti-)3 He and (anti-)3H. For (anti-)3He, the results obtained in four classes of the mean charged-particle multiplicity density are also discussed. These results are compared to predictions from a canonical statistical hadronization model and coalescence approaches. An upper limit on the total yield of 4He is determined.
The LHC p+Pb run from the nuclear PDF perspective

The p+Pb and Pb+Pb runs at the LHC have opened a possibility to investigate the validity of collinear factorization in a clearly higher center-of-mass energy scale than earlier in nuclear collisions. Indeed, some processes that have been measured routinely in p+p(p) collisions and utilized for years in free proton PDF fits, can now finally be reached also in the nuclear case. Such new data are expected to provide conclusive answers concerning the universality of the nuclear PDFs. In this talk, I will contrast some of the first p+Pb and Pb+Pb measurements to the predictions based on the nuclear PDFs.
