Experimental determination of in DELPHI

1998

The running mass of the b quark as defined in the MS renormalization scheme, mb, was measured at the MZ scale using 2.8 million hadronic Z0 decays collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP. The result is mb(MZ) = 2.67 ± 0.25(stat.) ± 0.34(frag.) ± 0.27(theo.)GeV/c2 which differs from that obtained at the γ scale, by mb(Mγ2)−mb(MZ) = 1.49±0.52 GeV/c2. This measurement, performed far from the bb production threshold, provides the first experimental observation of the running of the quark masses.

Test of the flavour independence of αs

1995

Abstract Using about 950000 hadronic events collected during 1991 and 1992 with the ALEPH detector, the ratios r b = α s b α s udsc and r uds = α s uds α s cb have been measured in order to test the flavour independence of the strong coupling constant α s . The analysis is based on event-shape variables using the full hadronic sample, two b -quark samples enriched by lepton tagging and lifetime tagging, and a light-quark sample enriched by lifetime antitagging. The combined results are r b = 1.002±0.023 and r uds = 0.971 ± 0.023.

Radiative decays of double heavy baryons in a relativistic constituent three-quark model including hyperfine mixing

2010

We study flavor-conserving radiative decays of double heavy baryons using a manifestly Lorentz covariant constituent three-quark model. Decay rates are calculated and compared to each other in the full theory, keeping masses finite, and also in the heavy quark limit. We discuss in some detail hyperfine mixing effects.

Deviation from quark number scaling of the anisotropy parameterv2of pions, kaons, and protons inAu+Aucollisions atsNN=200GeV

2012

Measurements of the anisotropy parameter v(2) of identified hadrons (pions, kaons, and protons) as a function of centrality, transverse momentum p(T), and transverse kinetic energy KET at midrapidity (vertical bar eta vertical bar < 0.35) in Au + Au collisions at root s(N N) = 200 GeV are presented. Pions and protons are identified up to p(T) = 6 GeV/c, and kaons up to p(T) = 4 GeV/c, by combining information from time-of-flight and aerogel Cerenkov detectors in the PHENIX Experiment. The scaling of v(2) with the number of valence quarks (n(q)) has been studied in different centrality bins as a function of transverse momentum and transverse kinetic energy. A deviation from previously observ…

Confronting hadronic tau decays with non-leptonic kaon decays

2018

In the chiral limit, the $D=6$ contribution to the Operator Product Expansion (OPE) of the $\mathrm{VV-AA}$ correlator of quark currents only depends on two vacuum condensates, which can be related to hadronic matrix elements associated to CP violation in non-leptonic kaon decays. We use those relations to determine $\langle(\pi\pi)_{I=2}|\mathcal{Q}_{8}|K\rangle$, using the updated ALEPH spectral functions. Alternatively, we use those relations in the opposite direction. Taking the values of the matrix elements from the lattice to obtain the $D=6$ vacuum elements provides a new short-distance constraint which allows for an inclusive determination of $f_{\pi}$ and an updated value for the $…

Proton-antiproton annihilation at rest into two mesons and the quark line rule

1988

Proton-antiproton annihilation at rest into two mesons is analysed in a model describing annihilation by quark lines. The model allows to fit existing data with two parameters. The parameters describe the amplitudes for diagrams with and without rearrangement of quark lines.

Heavy Baryons and electromagnetic decays

2000

In this talk I review the theory of electromagnetic decays of the ground state baryon multiplets with oneheavy quark, calculated using Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. The M1 and E2 amplitudes for (S^{*}-> S gamma), (S^{*} -> T gamma) and (S -> T gamma)are separately analyzed. All M1 transitions are calculated up to O(1/_^2). The E2 amplitudes contribute at the same order for (S^{*}-> S gamma), while for (S^{*} -> T gamma) they first appear at O(1/(m_Q _^2))and for (S -> T gamma) are completely negligible. Once the loop contributions is considered, relations among different decay amplitudes are derived. Furthermore, one can obtain an absolute prediction for…

Non-cancellation of electroweak logarithms in high-energy scattering

2014

We study electroweak Sudakov corrections in high energy scattering, and the cancellation between real and virtual Sudakov corrections. Numerical results are given for the case of heavy quark production by gluon collisions involving the rates $gg \to t \bar t, b \bar b, t \bar b W, t \bar t Z, b \bar b Z, t \bar t H, b \bar b H$. Gauge boson virtual corrections are related to real transverse gauge boson emission, and Higgs virtual corrections to Higgs and longitudinal gauge boson emission. At the LHC, electroweak corrections become important in the TeV regime. At the proposed 100 TeV collider, electroweak interactions enter a new regime, where the corrections are very large and need to be re…

Probing transverse quark polarization via azimuthal asymmetries in leptoproduction.

1997

We consider the leading order result for polarized leptoproduction, putting emphasis on transverse momentum dependent effects appearing in azimuthal asymmetries. Measurements of weighted cross sections enable extraction of the distribution of transversely polarized quarks. We focus on the distribution in a longitudinally polarized hadron and estimate the expected asymmetries in leptoproduction.
