Rapidity distributions of dileptons from a hadronizing quark-gluon plasma

It has been predicted that dilepton production may be used as a quark-gluon plasma probe. We calculate the rapidity distributions of thermal dileptons produced by an evolving quark-gluon plasma assuming a longitudinal scaling expansion with initial conditions locally determined from the hadronic rapidity density. These distributions are compared with Drell-Yan production and semileptonic charm decays at invariant mass $M = 2$, 4, and 6 GeV.

Heavy quark spin symmetry and heavy baryons: electroweak decays

Heavy quark spin symmetry is discussed in the context of single and doubly heavy baryons. A special attention is paid to the constraints/simplifications that this symmetry imposes on the non-relativistic constituent quark model wave functions and on the b->c semileptonic decays of these hadrons.

Measurement of electrons from semileptonic heavy-flavour hadron decays at midrapidity in pp and Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV

The differential invariant yield as a function of transverse momentum (pT) of electrons from semileptonic heavy-flavour hadron decays was measured at midrapidity in central (0–10%), semi-central (30–50%) and peripheral (60–80%) lead–lead (Pb–Pb) collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV in the pT intervals 0.5–26 GeV/c (0–10% and 30–50%) and 0.5–10 GeV/c (60–80%). The production cross section in proton–proton (pp) collisions at s=5.02 TeV was measured as well in 0.5<pT<10 GeV/c and it lies close to the upper band of perturbative QCD calculation uncertainties up to pT=5 GeV/c and close to the mean value for larger pT. First Measurement of Boson Production in Association with a Single Charm Quark in Collisions at

The authors present the first measurement of the production cross section of a W boson with a single charm quark (c) in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV, using soft muon tagging of c jets. In a data sample of {approx} 1.8 fb{sup -1}, recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, they select events with W + 1 or 2 jets. They use the charge correlation between the W and the muon from the semileptonic decay of a charm hadron to extract the We signal. They measure {sigma}{sub Wc} (p{sub Tc} > 20 GeV/c, |{eta}{sub c}| < 1.5) x BR(W {yields} {ell}{nu}) = 9.8 {+-} 3.2 pb, in agreement with theoretical expectations.

s-channel single top quark production and decay at next-to-next-to-leading-order in QCD

We report on a fully differential next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculation of s-channel single top (anti)quark production with a semileptonic decay at the LHC, neglecting the color correlation between the light and heavy quark lines and in the narrow width approximation. The NNLO corrections can increase the cross section by about 10% in the low transverse momentum region of the top quark and reduce scale variation uncertainty. In order to compare with experimental results without unfolding procedures, we also present theoretical predictions with fiducial cuts, including total cross sections and distributions of observables used in the experimental multivariate analysis. Shock phenomena in baryonless strongly interacting matter.

Shock phenomena associated with the quark-to-hadron matter phase transition are studied using the concept of adiabats. To allow for an analysis of a medium with vanishing baryon density, the shock and Poisson adiabats are formulated in terms of hydrodynamic fluxes, rather than only thermodynamic variables. The bag-model equation of state is used to describe the phase transition. It is shown that deflagrations from the quark phase above the critical temperature and strong detonations from the supercooled quark phase to the superheated hadron phase are unlikely. Multiplicities of charged kaons from deep-inelastic muon scattering off an isoscalar target

Precise measurements of charged-kaon multiplicities in deep inelastic scattering were performed. The results are presented in three-dimensional bins of the Bjorken scaling variable x, the relative virtual-photon energy y, and the fraction z of the virtual-photon energy carried by the produced hadron. The data were obtained by the COMPASS Collaboration by scattering 160 GeV muons off an isoscalar 6 LiD target. They cover the kinematic domain 1 (GeV/c)2 &lt; Q2 &lt; 60 (GeV/c)^2 in the photon virtuality, 0.004 &lt; x &lt; 0.4, 0.1 &lt; y &lt; 0.7, 0.20 &lt; z &lt; 0.85, and W &gt; 5 GeV/c^2 in the invariant mass of the hadronic system. Light Quenched Hadron Spectrum and Decay Constants on different Lattices

In this paper we study O(2000) (quenched) lattice configurations from the APE collaboration, for different lattice volumes and for 6.0 \le beta \le 6.4 using both the Wilson and the SW-Clover fermion actions. We determine the light hadronic spectrum and meson decay constants and study the mesonic dispersion relation. We extract the hadronic variable J and the strange quark mass in the continuum at the next-to-leading order obtaining m_s^{MSbar}(mu=2 GeV) = 122 +/- 20 MeV. A study is made of their dependence on lattice spacing. Search for Down-Type Fourth Generation Quarks with the ATLAS Detector in Events with One Lepton and Hadronically Decaying W Bosons

This Letter presents a search for pair production of heavy down-type quarks decaying via b′→Wt in the lepton+jets channel, as b′¯b′→W−tW+¯t→b¯bW+W−W+W−→l±νb¯bq¯qq¯qq¯q. In addition to requiring exactly one lepton, large missing transverse momentum, and at least six jets, the invariant mass of nearby jet pairs is used to identify high transverse momentum W bosons. In data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.04  fb−1 from pp collisions at √s=7  TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector, a heavy down-type quark with mass less than 480 GeV can be excluded at the 95% confidence level.

Measurement of the top quark-pair production cross section with ATLAS in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$  TeV

A measurement of the production cross-section for top quark pairs($\ttbar$) in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7 \TeV$ is presented using data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are selected in two different topologies: single lepton (electron $e$ or muon $\mu$) with large missing transverse energy and at least four jets, and dilepton ($ee$, $\mu\mu$ or $e\mu$) with large missing transverse energy and at least two jets. In a data sample of 2.9 pb-1, 37 candidate events are observed in the single-lepton topology and 9 events in the dilepton topology.
