Infrared radiation harmonic generation in degenerate semiconductors
2004
The basic properties of infrared laser radiation odd harmonic generation due to electron-charged impurity collisions in degenerate semiconductors are investigated. It is found that in the case of relatively weak fields, the electron Fermi distribution is the cause of an anomalous suppression of harmonic radiation. In the case of strong fields, the effect of the selective suppression of single harmonics is established.

2007
We present theoretical and experimental investigations on the soliton dynamics associated to multiple second harmonic generation resonances in two-dimensional nonlinear photonic crystals, highlighting a wealth of new possibilities for soliton management in such structures.

Even harmonics generation of high frequency radiation in current-carrying plasmas
2005
Generation of high frequency radiation harmonics in a current-carrying plasma is studied. The physical mechanism responsible for harmonics generation is provided by electron-ion collisions. The current in the plasma is sustained by a constant electric field. It is shown that the electron distribution function anisotropy due to the static field yields generation of even harmonics. As a result, the radiation spectrum emitted by the current-carrying plasma contains both even and odd harmonics, the latter being attributed to currentless plasma. For a broad range of plasma and high frequency radiation parameters, a detailed analysis of the even harmonics properties is reported.
Confinement and high-order harmonic generation by a repulsive potential
2003
The dynamics of an electron wave packet in the presence of laser radiation and of a one-dimensional repulsive soft-core potential is investigated. For different laser intensities and for different initial positions of the electron wave packet, these results are compared with those for an attractive potential. The repulsive potential is capable of confining the electron quite efficiently under appropriate conditions. In these conditions, the electron is shown to emit a high harmonic spectrum similar to that emitted by the more conventional attractive potential. It is thus argued that recombination into an atomic bound state as required by the three step model is not essential for the emissio…
Direct theoretical evidence of nuclear motion in H+2by means of high harmonic generation
2007
The numerical solution of the time-dependent Schro ̈dinger equation for vibrating hydrogen molecular ions in many-cycle laser pulses shows that high- order harmonic generation is sensitive to laser-induced molecular vibrations. In particular, the odd harmonic lines in the emitted spectra are surrounded by additional regular peaks whose spacing is given by the vibrational frequency of the nuclei motion. Analytical theory relates these satellite peaks to the molecular vibrations in terms of an approximated effective potentials. These results are not affected by the dimensionality of the system.

Monte Carlo Analysis of Voltage-Current Characteristic Nonlinearity and Harmonic Generation in Submicron Semiconductor Structures
2006
Using a multiparticles Monte Carlo technique, we investigate the dependence of the nonlinear carrier dynamics in GaAs n+nn+ structures operating under very intense sub-terahertz signals from some process parameters as: i) the frequency and the intensity of the excitation signal and ii) the length of the n region
Unusual optical properties of the dense nonequilibrium plasmas
2005
A concise overview of new optical properties of dense nonequilibrium plasma formed on the solid state target boundary is given. In this chapter, we describe phenomena such as the third harmonic generation in the skin layer, collisionless electron heating in the high frequency skin-effect regime, absorption, and reflection and transmission of radiation by a plasma with anisotropic electron distribution.
Chaos and nonlinearities in high harmonic generation
2016
Linearity is a fundamental postulate of quantum mechanics which is occasionally the subject of debate. This paper investigates the possibility of checking this assumption by using a laser field. We study the corrections caused by the presence of a small nonlinearity in the Hamiltonian of a quantum system. As a model we use a simplified two-level quantum system whose states are coupled by a small off-diagonal term proportional to the population of the upper level. The nonlinearity causes spontaneous decay of the upper level, shift and broadening of the line and the sensitive dependence of the final state on the initial condition. The presence of a strong laser field, resonant with the atomic…
