Analysis of high-harmonic generation in terms of complex Floquet spectral analysis

2017

Recent developments on intense laser sources is opening a new field of optical sciences. An intense coherent light beam strongly interacting with the matter causes a coherent motion of a particle, forming a strongly dressed excited particle. A photon emission from this dressed excited particle is a strong nonlinear process causing high-harmonic generation (HHG), where the perturbation analysis is broken down. In this work, we study a coherent photon emission from a strongly dressed excited atom in terms of complex spectral analysis in the extended Floquet-Hilbert-space. We have obtained the eigenstates of the total Hamiltonian with use of Feshbach-Brilloiun-Wigner projection method. In this…

The spiked harmonic oscillatorV(r)=r 2+λr −4 as a challenge to perturbation theory

1991

The standard weak- and strong-coupling perturbation series are interpreted as extreme special cases of expansions obtainable within the framework of Rayleigh-Schroedinger perturbation theory with non-diagonal propagators and unspecified zero-order energies. The formalism of the latter type is then tested by our strongly singular example. It proves suitable for applications in the domain of virtually arbitrary couplings. A few related technicalities and especially the quadruple problem of convergence are also discussed.

Radiative recombination in a strong laser field: low-frequency approximation

2005

A theoretical treatment of the laser-assisted radiative recombination (LARR) is presented in which the low-frequency (LF) assumption is exploited. The merit of the proposed LF approximation is twofold. First, the LF approximation considerably simplifies the calculations of the transition rates, whereas the results obtained within this approximation are only slightly different from those obtained without resorting to it. Second, the LF approximation gives more insight into the physical picture of the process, which may be viewed as a two-step process. In the first step, the free electron propagates toward the ion, and its motion is described classically with motion changes ascribed mainly to…

Quantization as a consequence of the group law

1982

A method of gemetric quantization which solely makes use of the structure of the symmetry group of the dynamical system is proposed; the classical limit is discussed along similar lines. The method is applied to two examples, the free particle and the harmonic oscillator.

Characterization of Current Transformers in the Presence of Harmonic Distortion

2008

The CTs performance under distorted conditions are usually characterized by means of the frequency response test. In this paper a new way to characterize CTs, closer to real operative conditions, is proposed. The harmonic phase angle and ratio errors are measured when the CTs are excited with a nonsinusoidal current composed of a fundamental and one harmonic, with adjustable phase shift. The errors measured using the new approach were found larger than the ones obtained with the frequency response. This suggests that frequency response is not a reliable method to evaluate the CT performance under distorted conditions.

Modeling harmonic generation by a degenerate two-level atom

1996

An analytical theory of the generation of high-order harmonics of laser radiation has been developed on the basis of a two-level model atom with degenerate levels. Among other parameters, onset, width, and cutoff of the plateau in the harmonic spectrum are obtained in simple analytical forms that connect the basic problem parameters and permit a transparent interpretation of the mechanism underlying the spectrum formation for this specific case. Selected numerical calculations are reported to corroborate the analytical findings and to investigate other harmonic-spectrum features.

Alfven QPOs in magnetars in the anelastic approximation

2009

We perform two-dimensional simulations of Alfven oscillations in magnetars, modeled as relativistic stars with a dipolar magnetic field. We use the anelastic approximation to general relativistic magnetohydrodynamics, which allows for an effective suppression of fluid modes and an accurate description of Alfven waves. In addition, we compute Alfven oscillation frequencies along individual magnetic field lines with a semi-analytic approach, employing a short-wavelength approximation. Our main findings are as follows: a) we confirm the existence of two families of quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs), with harmonics at integer multiples of the fundamental frequency, as was found in the linear s…

GRO J1744-28: an intermediate B-field pulsar in a low mass X-ray binary

2015

The bursting pulsar, GRO J1744-28, went again in outburst after $\sim$18 years of quiescence in mid-January 2014. We studied the broad-band, persistent, X-ray spectrum using X-ray data from a XMM-Newton observation, performed almost at the peak of the outburst, and from a close INTEGRAL observation, performed 3 days later, thus covering the 1.3-70.0 keV band. The spectrum shows a complex continuum shape that cannot be modelled with standard high-mass X-ray pulsar models, nor by two-components models. We observe broadband and peaked residuals from 4 to 15 keV, and we propose a self-consistent interpretation of these residuals, assuming they are produced by cyclotron absorption features and b…

Generalized Conformal Symmetry and Extended Objects from the Free Particle

1998

The algebra of linear and quadratic functions of basic observables on the phase space of either the free particle or the harmonic oscillator possesses a finite-dimensional anomaly. The quantization of these systems outside the critical values of the anomaly leads to a new degree of freedom which shares its internal character with spin, but nevertheless features an infinite number of different states. Both are associated with the transformation properties of wave functions under the Weyl-symplectic group $WSp(6,\Re)$. The physical meaning of this new degree of freedom can be established, with a major scope, only by analysing the quantization of an infinite-dimensional algebra of diffeomorphi…

Nonequilibrium dressing in a cavity with a movable reflecting mirror

2017

We consider a movable mirror coupled to a one-dimensional massless scalar field in a cavity. Both the field and the mirror's mechanical degrees of freedom are described quantum-mechanically, and they can interact each other via the radiation pressure operator. We investigate the dynamical evolution of mirror and field starting from a nonequilibrium initial state, and their local interaction which brings the system to a stationary configuration for long times. This allows us to study the time-dependent dressing process of the movable mirror interacting with the field, and its dynamics leading to a local equilibrium dressed configuration. Also, in order to explore the effect of the radiation …
