INNOVATIVE PHOTOVOLTAIC-THERMAL HEAT PUMP SOLUTIONS FOR DOMESTIC HOT WATER PRODUCTION
2022
With the rapid growth of energy consumption in the building sector and the consequent necessity to develop energy efficiency strategies, the application of heat pump systems seems to be a competitive solution to improve energy efficiency. In particular, air-source heat pump (ASHP) systems assisted by solar energy have drawn great attention, owing to their great feasibility in buildings for space heating/cooling and hot ater production purposes. The complementation system between solar and air energy can solve the poor performance of the air source heat pump under low-temperature conditions and can also make up for the shortcoming of the solar collector as an unstable energy source. Both sol…
Analysis of Thermal Comfort Conditions and Actual Energy Efficiency for Different Heating Systems in Test Buildings
2015
The aim of this study is detailed analysis of long-term monitoring data on thermal comfort conditions and energy efficiency in small test buildings equipped with different heating systems. Calculations of PPD index and local thermal discomfort factors, as well as actual energy efficiency ratios for different heat pump systems are provided for the test buildings during three weeks of the heating season. It is shown that the type of heating system has an influence not only on heating energy needs, but also on thermal comfort conditions in the room.
CO2LD: An innovation educational project for High Degree Professional Training in Refrigeration
2013
EN] Refrigeration is one of the technology sectors that has sufered the most changes in the last twenty years, because of the negative impact of the fuids used in the refrigeration cycles, i.e., refrigerants, due to their impact on the ozone layer and their contribution to global warming. As a result of their negative efects, the European Union has established several directives to restrict the use of refrigerant fuids, and the sector therefore needs to adapt to the new regulations. This process of adaptation of the refrigeration sector to the new regulations must be carried out by all the agents involved, including those engaged in the training and education of the future refrigeration tec…
Analysis of Air Cycle and Efficiency Evaluation for a Blast Freezing Tunnel Plant
2013
Air refrigerating systems offer a suitable alternative to vapour compression systems. Air can be used as working fluid in gas compression cycles for refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems. This paper gives some results of theoretical investigation into improved air cycles for refrigeration systems and a comparison is made with their performances. The case-study relates to a dual purpose refrigerating plant. A blast freezing tunnel gives the coldest air stream and, in cascade, the air coming out from the tunnel is used in a channel network for feeding a lot of chilling cells. The case-study analysed indicates that there is a real possibility to build plants which will be equip…
Thermal comfort condition assessment in test buildings with different heating/cooling systems and wall envelopes
2017
Abstract The main aim of this study is a comprehensive analysis of long-term monitoring data of thermal comfort and discomfort parameters in small identical test buildings equipped with different heating/cooling systems. Calculations of PPD index expressed the human perception of thermal comfort and such discomfort factors like draught rate and vertical air temperature difference are provided for the room in winter season running three different heating systems – electric heater, air-air heat pump and air-water heat pump, as well as for the summer cooling with split type air conditioning systems. It is shown that the type of heating/cooling system and its working regime has a significant im…
Techno-economic analysis of a local district heating plant under fuel flexibility and performance
2017
Brovst is a small district in Denmark. This paper analyses the use of local renewable resources in the district heating systems of Brovst. The present use of fossil fuels in the Brovst district heating plant (DHP) represents an increasing environmental and climate-related load. Therefore, an investigation has been made to reduce the use of fossil fuels for district heating system and make use of the local renewable resources (biogas, solar, and heat pump) for district heating purposes. In this article, the techno-economic assessment is achieved through the development of a suite of models that are combined to give cost and performance data for this district heating system. Local fuels have …
Studies Energy Efficiency of the Renewable Sources use Considering Climate in Latvia
2015
AbstractThe paper discusses problems of energy supply of buildings using renewable sources given the local climatic conditions. The meteorological conditions in Latvia and Riga for last year were analyzed. In paper shows examples of energy efficient buildings allowing that to provide comfort temperature and indoor air quality. The structure and composition of local building materials, providing good thermal insulation are described. The heating systems for test buildings using renewable energy sources were investigated. The assessment of the energy efficiency of the “air-air” and “air-water” heat pumps is studied.
Advanced Control Structure for Energy Management in Ground Coupled Heat Pump HVAC System
2008
Abstract Over the last 15 years, computerized controls have become more and more common in our homes. The smart home looks at expanding the use of the computers into the difference parts of the home, creating a network that can be easily and conveniently controlled. The use of computer controls removes the need to actually flick a switch and allows elements of the home to respond automatically to the people living in it. Successful control and heating ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems is a primary concern in building project: in order to achieve the required comfort and energy efficiency goals, a lot of variables must be coordinated and kept at particular pre-designed operatio…
Optimization of hybrid – ground coupled and air source – heat pump systems in combination with thermal storage
2010
Ground coupled heat pumps are attractive solutions for cooling and heating commercial buildings due to their high efficiency and their reduced environmental impact. Two possible ideas to improve the efficiency of these systems are decoupling energy generation from energy distribution and combining different HVAC systems. Based on these two ideas, we present several HVAC configurations which combine the following equipments: a ground coupled heat pump, an air to water heat pump and a thermal storage device. These HVAC configurations are linked to an office building in a cooling dominated area in order to evaluate in these conditions the total electrical consumption of each configuration to o…
A measurement methodology for monitoring a CHCP pilot plant for an office building
2003
Abstract In Mediterranean areas, climate conditions determine quite equal demand both for thermal and cooling energy. The possibility to convert a cooling demand in thermal one through an absorption chiller allows to extend widely the number of running hours of a cogeneration plant. A trigeneration pilot plant for two office building is described, in which an integrated lay-out includes a NG prime mover with heat exchanger, an absorption chiller and a reversible heat pump. The pilot plant is completed and pre-running test were performed. Different fluid dynamics parameters will be monitored, in order to build the actual cumulative curve for thermal power. The measurement methodology is also…
