In this work, we propose that for further studies of the physiopathology and treatment for inflammatory bowel diseases, an integral view of the conditions, including the triad of microbiota-heat shock proteins (HSPs)-probiotics, ought to be considered. Increase of sulfite tolerance in Oenococcus oeni by means of acidic adaptation

International audience; Sulfite is an antimicrobial agent used at the beginning of winemaking to avoid development of undesirable microorganisms. However, Oenococcus oeni, which is mainly responsible for the malolactic fermentation, has to grow in wine and therefore has to be resistant to sulfite. This study showed that acid-adapted cells of O. oeni survived better than non-adapted cells in the presence of a high sulfite concentration (30 mg l-1). Addition of a sub-lethal concentration of sulfite (15 mg l31) during the adaptation step in acidic medium increases the sulfite tolerance. The cold shock response of the psychrotrophic bacterium Pseudomonas fragi involves four low-molecular-mass nucleic acid-binding proteins

The psychrotrophic bacterium Pseudomonas fragi was subjected to cold shocks from 30 or 20 to 5 degrees C. The downshifts were followed by a lag phase before growth resumed at a characteristic 5 degrees C growth rate. The analysis of protein patterns by two-dimentional gel electrophoresis revealed overexpression of 25 or 17 proteins and underexpression of 12 proteins following the 30- or 20-to-5 degrees C shift, respectively. The two downshifts shared similar variations of synthesis of 20 proteins. Cloning of a DNA fragment encoding part of a 70-kDa heat shock protein ofCandida albicans

Immunoscreening of a mycelial expression library with polyclonal antibodies raised against mycelial cell wall resulted in the detection of a cDNA encoding a heat shock protein of Candida albicans. Sequence analysis of a 0.8-kb cDNA subclone, 2M-1, revealed an open reading frame encoding 244 amino acids. Southern blot analysis with this fragment as a probe demonstrated hybridization to C. albicans DNA. Northern analysis showed a substantial increase in 2M RNA expression levels after cells were subjected to heat shock. Western blot analysis with 2M monospecific antibodies recognized a 70-kDa protein which was present in membrane particles and cytosolic fractions.

In cardiac muscle, CRYAB exerts a cardio protective role in ischemia-induced damage preventing apoptosis and necrosis.
