Peak profiles in chromatography are characterised by their height, position, width and asymmetry; the two latter depend on the values of the left and right peak half-widths. Simple correlations have been found between the peak half-widths and the retention times. The representation of such correlations has been called half-width plots. Simple correlations have been found between the peak half-widths and the retention times. The representation of such correlations has been called half-width plots. For isocratic elution the plots are parabolic although often the parabolas can be approximated to straight-lines. The plots can be obtained with the half-widths/retention time data for a set of solutes experiencing the same kinetics eluted with a mobile phase at fixed or varying composition. When the analysed solutes experience different resistance to mass transfer the plots will be solute dependent and should be obtained with the data for each solute eluted with mobile phases at varying composition. The half-width plots approach is a simple tool that facilitates the prediction of peak shape (width and asymmetry) with optimisation purposes reveal the interaction kinetics of solutes in different columns and characterise chromatographic columns. This work shows half-width plots for different situations in isocratic elution including the use of different flows the effect of temperature the modification of the stationary phase surface by an additive the existence of specific interactions within the column and the comparison of columns. The adaptation to gradient elution is also described. Considering the characteristics of transmitted torque and power the device is dimensioned taking into account the constraints of space of the examined vehicle. Subjecting the device to magnetostatic finite element analysis it was determined the trend of the flow lines of the magnetic field in the gap of fluid and in areas of greater interest calculating the torque transmitted theoretically by the clutch. The performance comparison between a traditional clutch and a MR clutch was also performed pointing out that the MR clutch presents shorter response times with high energy savings. The study carried out shows that the device is well suited to a vehicle with automatic or robotic or otherwise with very short response times but requires a control system for the starting the vehicle.

Rateless Codes Performance Analysis in Correlated Channel Model for GEO Free Space Optics Downlinks

Settore ING-INF/03 - TelecomunicazioniFree Space Optics (FSO) technologies for satellite communications offer several advantages: wide bandwidth high rate capability immunity to electromagnetic interference and small equipment size. Thus they are suitable for inter-satellite links deep space communications and also for high data rate ground-to-satellite/satellite-to-ground communications. Nevertheless FSO links suffer impairments that cause power signal degradation at the receiver. Scattering and absorption cause power signal attenuations predictable by suitable deterministic models. Optical turbulence causes random irradiance fluctuations which can generate signal fading events and can thereby only be predicted by statistical models. Attenuation and fading events can corrupt FSO links and so it would be recommended to add mitigation error codes on the communication link. FSO channel can be described as an erasure channel: fading events can cause erasure errors. We have identified in rateless codes (RCs) a suitable solution to be employed in FSO links. RCs do not need feedback and they add a redundant coding on the source data that allows the receiver to recover the whole payload despite erasure errors. We implemented two different of rateless codes: Luby Transform (LT) and Raptor. We analyzed their performances on a simulated turbulent GEO FSO downlink (1 Gbps - OOK modulation) at a 106 μm wavelength and for different values of zenith angles. Assuming a plane-wave propagation and employing Hufnagel-Valley we modeled the downlink using: 1) a temporal correlated channel model based on Gamma-Gamma probability distribution and 2) an irradiance covariance function that we converted on a time function using Taylor frozen eddies hypothesis. Our new channel model is able to simulate irradiance fluctuations at different turbulence conditions as it will be shown in the full paper. We will also report performance results of LT and Raptor codes at overhead range varying between 0 and 50% and for different values of source packets.Settore ING-INF/01 - Elettronica

Settore IUS/17 - Diritto PenaleThe paper analyses the offence of unlawful work intermediation and exploitation offering a comparative analysis with the German punitive system. The study focuses in particular on the limits of legitimacy of criminal law in the punishment of gangmaster acts in the attempt to avoid that the punitive intervention in economic and contractual dynamics of a mutual nature could be so intrusive to be in contrast with the principle of subsidiarity. To this end the author suggests an interpretative perspective that centres the penal disvalue of the offence under article 603-bis of the criminal code on the harm to fundamental workers’ rights – as linked to articles 4 35 and 36 of the Italian Constitutions – which work as a limit to entrepreneurial freedom. To be sure the indexes of exploitation listed by the criminalising norm seem to echo those fundamental human rights attributed to a person as a worker: those very same rights that – when harmed in their minimal and therefore intangible dimension – legitimise the intervention of the ius terribile. The article also stresses the protection of the job market: in this sense the offence – even if situated within the Kernstrafrecht – represents a new paradigm of the institutional response within the framework of the contemporary relationships between law and economics.

Inoltre le annotazioni ai margini della scrittura, soprattutto nelle loro versioni grafiche, costituiscono una forma di introspezione autobiografica assai preziosa per ricostruire il profilo del loro autore, se scrittore e disegnatore al contempo.
