Progeny of “Sir Thaddeus” (1897), a less known essay by literary critic Cezary Jellenta [Napoleon Hirszband], presents an interesting attempt to discern and estimate novels of the 19th century Polish realists as originated from the great Mickiewicz’s poem. According to Jellenta, there are several social, national or aesthetic parallels existing between this famous epic work – a kind of architext and paradigm of Polish culture in general – and the well-known texts by Prus, Orzeszkowa, Sienkiewicz, Konopnicka or Witkiewicz, as well the unknown novel of Galician writer Alfred Nossig. This article is about the artist John Piper's participation in one of the programmes for the preservation of national heritage that were organised during the Second World War. It focuses on Piper's paintings and texts – notably the articles that he contributed to the Architectural Review – in order to illustrate the aesthetic controversy between modernism and tradition, abstraction and naturalism, which underpins the ambivalence of reconstruction.

The Second World War left considerable material remains in Finnish Lapland, ranging from remnants of structures destroyed in the 1944–45 Lapland War, through to small artefacts connected to soldiers, prisoners of war and civilians. These material remains have variously been saved and cherished by survivors and their families, forgotten or disregarded as ‘war junk’, ‘discovered’ by hobbyists, amassed and exchanged by private collectors, and/or accessioned into official museum collections. My chapter describes the history of Finnish museology. I use an archival approach to show how museology became a university discipline, as well as to show the efforts made to enhance professionalism in this area. Museology is a young science in Finland, and its development stems from a knowledge of collection care.  Artykuł podejmuje problematykę statusu administracyjnego muzealiów w hiszpańskim systemie prawnym. Przedstawiono założenia ustawy o hiszpańskim dziedzictwie historycznym z 1985 r., która reguluje status dóbr kultury BIC (bienes de interés cultural) – zarówno ruchomości, jak i nieruchomości – oraz poziomy ochrony w zależności od kategorii.
